How old should they be to go off on their own

It is a tough question and I have read the other responses :-). My son is 10 and ASD, ADHD, SPD, etc. We have also fought a significant separation anxiety, so that is our background, and that may not make sense with my answer. But, I say let him go by himself for a bit, IF he is comfortable...

    WDW Park Shoes?

I tend to take two pairs of shoes and then alternate days. I have some adidas that I love and some sketchers with memory foam that have both served me well. I also have crocs flip flops that I can walk in all day long (the Capri's, not the croc bands which don't have the same support). Have fun!!

Am I Crazy for Thinking I Can Do This?

I know I am late to this thread, but since your trip is still a ways away, here are my thoughts - Go. You are not crazy. The first trip I took with my two children alone (their first trip ever) was petrifying for me because of my son's Autism (he is the older of the two and at that time wasn't...

I'm not going to lie, I'm terrified

I just came back from DCL cruise with my two kids over Thanksgiving. Here are my thoughts: You will spend a lot of time with your kids, but they will probably also spend a lot of time in the kids activities Find the forum on DCL for your cruise and see if there are some other single parents -...

    One adult, two children rides?

I usually split on the ones that don't do 3 across - either I put the two kids together or I take one and put the other in front of us (my younger is the braver, so she doesn't mind riding alone or with a single rider). They are a little older now (and we do single rider whenever possible to...

    Single parent dating.

I have been a single mom for just a hair over 4 years and I haven't dated. At all. But, both my kids are begging for a Dad (I adopted them as a single mom) and my son has been on a quest to fix me up with every single man he ever comes in contact with. Apparently my son plotted with his bus...

The Holidays Are Upon Us: Single Parent Traditions?

We did, thanks!! It was absolutely lovely. We got in one last time at the Osborne family lights after the ship too. I am going to miss those. I am already trying to plan the next cruise too :-) I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!

    4 Park Challenge

Here was a rough approximation of our day (we used no extra magic hours, since we stayed off site). Allow time for transportation to each park, but we didn't feel all that rushed and we didn't try to do extra fast passes - we just picked standby rides based on the kids' favorites or standby...

Dream Thanksgiving cruise Nov 23, 2015

We are too. We will are driving down Saturday after dance practice and will be in the parks Sun. We have fast passes booked for Monday morning too, but that may be unrealistic :-). We will be back at HS for Osborne family lights Friday evening and at MK on Saturday.

The Holidays Are Upon Us: Single Parent Traditions?

LOL - we are neighbors, kind of. Ours is the weekend of the 12th of December (2 shows Sat and 1 on Sun). Tickets go on sale next week and I think they are $10 if purchased ahead of time 15 ea at the door, I believe. They don't have the information for tickets on the website yet because tickets...

The Holidays Are Upon Us: Single Parent Traditions?

Where are you in the Atlanta area? You can look for a smaller production - she will probably enjoy it just as much and there are several local ones. We are on the southside and my kids both dance in a Nutcracker performance that is pretty enjoyable. Obviously not professional level, but my...

The Holidays Are Upon Us: Single Parent Traditions?

I always take off the week of Thanksgiving and we normally do the tree that week, but this year we will be on board the Dream with my parents and my brother, so we are going to have to adjust that tradition :-). We kind of hope to make that our new tradition. We love to look at Christmas lights...

    4 Park Challenge

It was awesome and exhausting. My son and daughter have been talking about it all week, so I guess it was worth the exhaustion factor :-). My son wants to setup some sort of character meet ans greet challenge for the next trip lol. He likes to have a goal and this has inspired him.

    4 Park Challenge

So, I am dying to share our exciting accomplishment from our trip over the long holiday weekend. We were challenged about 6 weeks ago to attempt a four park challenge at WDW. All four parks in one day - and not just stepping foot in each park, but doing stuff. I originally thought it was...

    Single parent...contemplating first trip alone

I just found this thread, but let me add to the encouragement. I have never been anything but a single parent, and the first trip on my own with the kids was scary - even scarier was the first Disney trip. Our situation is complicated by my son's Autism. But, you can do this. We plan, we...

Gay parents at WDW or DLR

JaxDad said: ↑ Okay, I'm honestly not being judgmental but genuinely curious, do you all really need me time when vacationing with your kids? I don't think it is a judgmental question. In my case, as with another poster above, my DS just wears me out. I have my kids 100% of the time and...

Parent swap for the single mom

My children are the opposite, in that my younger one loves the thrill rides and my older doesn't. He doesn't like his younger sister to outdo him though, so he has ridden most of the time. But, earlier on, when he was about 8, he chose to just wait. His then 6 year old sister wasn't thrilled...

Questions for WDW Annual Pass Holders

Rucifee, thanks for that information. I know I have been debating the TiW program. We like to do at least one character meal each trip, and now that my son is only a couple months from the 10 yr old (aka adult prices on buffets), I do wonder if it would be worth it (it wasn't when he was at...

    Single parent dating.

I didn't particularly enjoy dating before i became a parent (via adoption, as a single parent), and now I am really struggling to find the time or motivation. I was ok with being single before and I am content with it now. My kids say they would like me to date (mainly they want a dad), but...
