Monorail Barn? Can you ride in the cockpit?
 

Hi everyone, I am probably one of the BIGGEST Monorail fans ever, can anyone give me info on the monorail barn? i.e. where is it? is it open to the public? tours? Also, I would LOVE to ride in the cockpit, last time we went to WDW I was told, rather rudely, that they don't do that anymore. Has that been everyone's experience or did I just get a grump? Actually since there was an accident many years ago where someone was killed, they no longer allow people to ride in the cockpit.

you brought up a tragic situation.

as stated, not an option any more.

That is super sad! I do remember reading something about that... I guess my thought was since it was so long ago they may let people up there again...

Any info on the monorail barn? Is it possible to find every color without going to the barn?

Not that many years ago. The pink/purple train incident where a driver (pilot) was killed occurred in July 2009.

During my first ever trip to WDW in mid 2001 my family were able to ride in the cockpit. On my next visit, my first 'post 9/11' trip, we were politely informed that tightened security no longer allowed public access to the cockpits.

His name was Austin. He was only 21. This only happened in the summer of 2009, not long ago.

The monorail "barn" is not open to the public, about the only way to even see the building is to take the Magic Behind Our Steam Trains tour.
