Ok we are going in June now, that our plans got all fuddled. I want to try Wilderness Lodge, but the wife wants to try Port Orleans? I read that you cant get breakfast at POR?? Is that right? Whats the difference between French and Riverside really? How is the transportation (bus) to the parks staying that far out? We have 2 kids 11-13 to figure into the equation. We have stayed at Poly, GF, Contemporary, Boardwalk, I have also stayed at Pop Century before wife and kids, I wasnt pleased with the bus service and it was a bit loud but I probably was too at that age.

Check out www.portorleans.org. This gives you lots of great info about the resort. POR has a huge food court & a sit down restaurant. We usually choose a preferred room at POR which puts us close to the food court & the buses. Enjoy!!

We loved POFQ for its smaller size because any room was an easy walk to food and bus. We don't take advantage of the pool and kids might like the one at Riverside better. We did not know that without preferred room we could be placed so very far away from the food court! We were in Alligator Bayou and the walk was far longer than we wanted. After that experience I would never return to Riverside without selecting the preferred room option.

Thanks for the tip about the preferred rooms. What about the No Breakfast thing..... I read that on several reviews of the POR. Another complaint was the buses, is it really that bad some said hour wait times for a bus at peak, and still 30 min ride to MK. LOL my children would eat each other on that wait and the wife would kill me if we missed a character breakfast too.

POFQ had a food court remodel which caused the food service to have to relocate and adjust to a reduced menu but they did serve breakfast even then and the remodel is now finished. We have been able to get breakfast at either resort so I think it's likely your info related to the food court remodel difficulties. The buses at FQ were always prompt.

Ok Clarification is it the Preferred Rooms Or the Royal Rooms that are closest? LOL is there a difference other than theme to them?

The preferred rooms are the closest and are in the AB section, just go to the website I posted above. POR has a huge food court. No issues whatsoever getting breakfast. Also we have stayed there at least 4 times a year for the last few years & have no issues whatsoever with the buses. POR is the closest moderate to MK so it's pretty quick. The only thing closer is Fort Wilderness cabins in the moderate category & you can take the boat to MK. We've done that too.

Both are great resorts but I'd choose POR for your family based on kids ages. Stay Preferred room as previously mentioned. Best location to main pool, food and main bus and shops ( also has a great slide at main pool. there are also quiet pools ( no slide). Transport by boat to Disney springs area... or walk 10 minute lighted path to sister resort POFQ where u can even ck out/use their pool!
POR has the Huge food court, game room, pool w/slide, beautiful grounds, carriage rides, bikes and buses to parks.
Both are great resorts, POFQ is smaller in size, smaller food court, younger type ( tho fun) pool and of course has the boat that also goes between the two resorts or to Disney Springs...
enjoy ur visit!

Has anyone booked a King Room? If so what area were you in? Trying to figure out what building/room to request.

I love Port Orleans Riverside. I've stayed there 3 times. I wish I could stay every time. I've always stayed in the Mansion rooms two times in the Acadian building and once in Magnolia Bend. Great access to bus tops, just a short walk by the parking lots of the buildings for the buses. As for breakfast we love the food court at Riverside, they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Boatwright's is the dinner only restaurant there.

King rooms at Port Orleans FQ are I believe still a seperate booking category . They can be anywhere on property. The www.portorleans.org has resort maps with room locations for both PO resorts.

We have never stayed at French Quarter, but we have stayed at POR twice. It's a beautiful resort. We have always been in the Acadian House, which is about as far from the lobby as you can get, but we were always about 25 steps away from the bus depot. We didn't feel like the bus waits were that bad. We may have waited about 15 minutes for a MK bus one evening when it was a MNSSHP night. Anyway, it can be a very long walk to the lobby if you're not in the preferred rooms, but if you hop on a bus and stop at the South Depot, it's not that bad. The food court is very nice with lots of choices for every kind of appetite. We enjoy the TS restaurant, Boatwrights, which is only open for dinner. There are plenty of recreation choices like bike renting, taking carriage rides, and catching the boat for Disney Springs. Plus, the main pool would be lots of fun for kids.

Stayed at POR 4 years ago. I don't recall which section we stayed in but it wasn't AB. We enjoyed it there. Just booked for June but this time it's just myself and my 12 yo daughter. She thinks we are going back to Pop but I switched to POFQ as we've never been. Hope she's as excited as I am when we get there.
