Which NYC airport for Canadian cruise?

Does it matter?

I'm flying in the day before and spending one night in the city. I plan on using private transfers.

Thanks!

If you fly into JFK you can easily take a train to get into Manhattan. LaGuardia is a little closer, but I've heard horror stories about getting to and from there (though I technically live in the other direction so it may not be as bad going into Manhattan). Newark is also fairly easy to take a train into the city (though it's been decades since I've actually done it). If you're near a Southwest hub, it can be cheap flying into Islip (on Long Island) and, again, get to the city by train very easily (though it's about an hour and a half to Penn Station).

If you're going to use a car service or taxi though, then it doesn't really matter. I'd do the math and figure out what's cheapest.

I would pick the cheapest option. I have flown into Newark and LaGuardia.

I was going to post basically the same thing msmama did above. We are on Long Island and the few times we don't use Southwest from Islip we go into JFK on the train. Very convenient and easy to get there and to the city. Not a fan of LaGuardia or Newark although if you are using private transfers to downtown it really doesn't matter as msmama stated.

We flew into Newark Liberty, took the train to Penn Station and walked from there. It was actually quite efficient and I actually enjoyed it.

I'm going add something to consider when you are arriving. NYC commuter congestion is very high. Depending on how much luggage you have.... you might enjoy the train more as it elevates you from the vehicles.

Would anyone like to comment on luggage with train passenger congestion? Is it like Japan?

I'd probably pick LaGuardia. It scares the hell outta me when we fly in and fly very low over the hudson river but the tickets are cheaper.

LaGuardia is a hot mess and a half. They are beginning construction to try and bring it into the 20th Century (no, that's not a typo...I know WE are in the 21st Century, but LaGhetto is so not even close), and it is just making things worse. On at least one occasion, people have literally gotten out of their cabs or Ubers and walked up to a mile to have a shot at making their flight.

And I know people on these boards are huge Southwest fans, so I will add this caution... The "terminal" that Southwest and the other low-cost airlines (a la Frontier, etc.) are out of? Is ridiculous. I was in there once (for almost 8 hours, but that's another story), and honestly they should have closed it to capacity at some points where multiple flights were delayed due to weather. If there had been some kind of emergency evacuation, people would have been trampled as there is ONE way into it, and it is NOT wide.

So... If there is no other way, take LaGhetto. But honestly I think it's worth paying more to have a more modern airport a la JFK or EWR.

I usually like LGA if I can get a flight off hours but I won't go near it now even if the price is fantastic. Not worth it. It took us over an hour AT THE EXIT FOR THE AIRPORT TO THE TERMINAL. It was crazy!!! I can attest to people jumping out of their cabs and walking with luggage on the airport roadway to get to the terminal. Traffic was just not moving within the airport.
