DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

‘Morning all…
It is morning, right?
Running on pretty much no sleep for a couple days so I ain’t exactly sure.

Oldest dd is sick and is taking an antibiotic. Dr said that it is going around here.
Too many folks feeling poorly ‘round here, and that needs to stop.
May the young’en continue improving and do so quickly.

Thanks for all the kind wishes, guys. She's steadily improving, although we still don't know what the heck happened. 2 nights ago the pain was a 7 (and she doesn't exaggerate pain. if she says 7, she's thought carefully about it and it's a 7) Next day a 6, last night a 5 today a 3. Keeping fingers crossed.
That’s a good bit of recovery as well from what from all accounts must have been quite the ordeal.
Does anyone have a clue as to what on earth was troubling her?

We've been involved in a basketball tournament all weekend. DS and his JV team have been playing in a varsity tournament and ended up going 1-2 in their pool. Both losses were by 1 point.
Mighty hard work and effort on their part, I’d say.
The “losing” record speaks more for them than any of the “winning” records say of the more senior competition. Excellent work by the kids.

Hello Dads, I'm soon leaving Asia behind for a month and heading home today. Lots of flying ahead of me with stops in Dubai and London, but I'm looking forward to getting home for Christmas. Unfortunately I'm a day late for seeing DD16 in the local Santa Claus parade, it's her first year as a cheerleader. But I do get back a day before DD9's school concert, so at least I'll see that.
Good that you will be home for the holidays.
Sorry you missed on some of the young’ens moments. I hate when that happens.
Ours is a good three hours off these days and work schedules force us to miss a lot of his performances. He was able to schedule his senior juried recital on a weekend so we did get to take that one in. It still made for a long day but was well worth it.

Not to jinx it, but I see light at the end of the tunnel. Got some sleep last night and it seems the bug decided he is going to move elsewhere. Felt good enough this morning that the kid and I went out to breakfast and then get the tree.
So the meatballs did the trick, eh? I’ll keep that in mind.
Breakfast and picking a tree are much better use of a day than being completely miserable.

FIL was finally admitted to hospital early Thursday evening. Between his COPD (chronic bronchitis / emphasima) and congestive heart failure he now also has cardiomyopathy. Oxygen levels are low because plumbing ain't working and he has no strength. Plan is to now get him into rehab so they can control diet with low sodium and work on physical therapy and breathing exercises. Medication is how they will keep heart stuff from worsening but nothing can improve it. Basically pops is just a mess so positive thoughts and prayers appreciated.
That’s a whole lot of tough battles for one fell’a to have to fight at one time.
May he stay strong and progress well through this stage.
At least he’s got a good support team.

That's a wrap for Disney this year, we've done pretty well this year with WDW and DLP.

Have a lovely Monday, safe travels Jeff, and best wishes to all from the Mother Country.
I’d say y’all done very well at feeding the Disney addiction.
I enjoyed our little visit but would certainly have liked more.

And speaking for at least part of our country, I’ll take those best wishes.
We’re gonn’a need ‘em.

Lights are up and because of the size, it was a piece of cake. The kid is in finals week so I am postponing putting on the ornaments until next week when she can participate.
That’s about as far as we got this weekend. The tree is up, light, and “cat proofed” but the rest of the weekend got too busy to allow for much else. Maybe we can do some of the trimming this evening.

A little share of our decorations, the main villages display at our house
Quite the collection and a nice spot to display it as well.
DW thinks about starting a village like that from time to time but can’t decide on the exact style she wants. She has a couple of other holiday collections though and we’re a bit short on space so it might be just as well. When we get everything set up and squared away I may post a couple pictures, but right now everything is a mess of tubs, boxes and piles of brick-a-brac that needs organizing.

Happy Monday. Office work done already. I'm extra sore today, and I'm going to avoid the gym and tennis center in hopes the rest will do some good.

The fortune teller says, "I see many more trips to Disney in your future." You even made me want to go to DLP. Hoping for a trip to the UK two summers from now so maybe then.

I'm hoping your fortune teller said to take Norm with you on these trips. :lmao:

Enjoy the Christmas holidays with your daughter.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Only 3 more weeks with two of them only being 4 day weeks until a nice long break from the day job for Christmas and New Years. A little share of our decorations, the main villages display at our house

y :)

Village is looking good. I've still been downsizing Christmas decorations each year. I remember the 2 foot tall tree DW and I put out on our first Christmas when were married. I look forward to those days again.

Thanks, she's feeling better and almost done with antibiotic course. You better get some sleep, less you find yourself rundown.

I hear that. Today's my day off.... and I'm working 16 hours (double shift).
Luckily tomorrow's my other day off and so far I'm only working 8.

That’s a good bit of recovery as well from what from all accounts must have been quite the ordeal.
Does anyone have a clue as to what on earth was troubling her?

Not really. The doctor suggested possibly mittelschmerz but who knows. Most of the mermaids on my TR seem to think it might be an ovarian cyst.

I'm extra sore today, and I'm going to avoid the gym and tennis center in hopes the rest will do some good.

Hot tub time.
Failing that, hot shower.
Failing that, hot alcohol..... hmmm..... maybe combine that with the tub/shower.

Evening all,

interesting morning at the office. Apparently we picked up some ransomware late last week. Gave them the digital finger as all the files that got encrypted by the little turds were available to us on a backup.

In other news: Happy birthday Walt!

Heard of that. People like that need a good tarrin' and featherin'.

Glad you're feeling better. It's against the law to be sick over the holidays.

I think the two 1 point losses were learning experiences for them, especially given they were playing "up" against varsity teams and both games were theirs to win.

Definitely a good learning experience. It'll pay off down the road.

This Date in Disney History: December 5, 1901 Walter Elias Disney was born. Tonight when you hoist your favorite beverage give him a salute of thanks.

Happy birthday Walt!

Happy Tuesday. Had a good interview this morning. Now, it's just a waiting game.

Figured out what the issue was. I forgot to take my naproxen, two doses in a row. But, alcohol was my next option.

Glad to hear you had the backups.

Afternoon gents. FIL is coming home from hospital today because Medicare would not cover him going into inpatient rehab facility even though all paperwork was taken care of last night to do so?!?!?!?! Going home now requiring him to be on oxygen and a couple of days a week of in home therapy which is not near enough. All are worried he is not gonna do what he needs to in terms of both activity and diet. A bit of a mess and apparently today he is playing the martyr ......... 3 more weeks, I only need to make it 3 more weeks
I hear that. Today's my day off.... and I'm working 16 hours (double shift).

I will never get your work schedule nor would I want it. Tip of the hat to you. Hope DD is doing well
Happy Tuesday. Had a good interview this morning. Now, it's just a waiting game.
Best of luck yo you Norm, hope it works out for you.

Oh, it got worse.... much worse...

Happy Tuesday. Had a good interview this morning. Now, it's just a waiting game.

Fingers and toes crossed here. Good luck!

DD is completely over whatever it was. Hopefully it doesn't come back.

No. You don't want it. I had three days off. On the first day off I worked 4 hours.
On the 2nd day off I worked 16 hours.
On the 3rd day off I worked (and am working) 16 hours.
Normally it's just 8.
Well, except for tomorrow. That one's 12 now.

But... I'm now maxed out. By law they can't ask me to work any more overtime until January.

Afternoon chaps, from Sunny London. Welcome to the back half of the week.

Gave them the digital finger as all the files that got encrypted by the little turds were available to us on a backup.
Whoever made the call to spend extra on the backup has got to be feeling pretty good right now....
FIL is coming home from hospital today because Medicare....
There are many many great things about your country, medical cover is not one of them. All the best to the FIL Mike.

That's a relief. I was starting to feel like I wasn't working hard enough.

'Morning all...
May you all find a bit of calm and peace.
(I could sure use some)

Am I right that this will be extra work rather than a change in position and what kind of work are we talking about?
(just being nosy here; ignore me if I'm out of bounds)

Unfortunate. A lot to worry about here; not to mention the stubbornness factor.
The older we all get the less cooperative we tend to be. Especially when dealing with our own mortality.
We're happy to tell other what they ought to be doing, but not near as good at listening in relation to ourselves.

But... I'm now maxed out. By law they can't ask me to work any more overtime until January.
Given the amount of reliance that your overlords place on you, I can foresee that they may regret having maxed out their resources so soon before getting into the full swing of the holiday crush. Enjoy what should be a more "normal" schedule for the next couple of weeks at least. Unless they find a way around that there law you mentioned (I know my employers wouldn't hesitat to bend or break a regulation).

There are many many great things about your country, medical cover is not one of them.
And to prove the point, we just agreed that we want it to be made worse.
(well, some of us decided on that, the rest of us are just being dragged along )

From FDR's speech to congress: "Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan."

I was lucky to spend a week on Oahu and one of the days was spent visiting the Pearl Harbor Memorial. If you ever get the chance, it is well worth doing. Very moving.

Good luck Bubba, hope you get it.

That is good news.

Morning Mate from a sunny Miami. Supposed to be a good day today over here, sunny and in the 80's.

Morning dads, just enjoying my fisrt couple days home. Came back to a light dusting of snow which gave everything a nice Christmas touch. Getting a start on the decorating. I'll try to pull the lights out of the basement today and aim to have the tree up this weekend. Goiing to youngest DDs school concert tonight. Not exactly a relaxing break but this time of year is always busy.

On this day a huge debt of gratitude to my grandparents generation "The Greatest Generation"

Same to you boss. When is the young man coming home for Christmas? We got the boy coming back tomorrow and the girl will be back late Monday.

Well stated. What I am trying to get through his thick skull is that nobody is expecting him to run a marathon. Use the oxygen like instructed to make you feel better, walk with your walker so that my taxes don't go up from having to add firemen to keep picking you up when you crash, go get the mail each day and get up and do simple things and change your diet some. DD hit him with her graduation and wedding coming and that he better be there and that se to hit the right nerve so we will see.
Hope he tows the line to get better. Hang in there.
Thanks CJ.

A very sad day for the history of the United States. Out of great tragedy, came great unity. Too bad we can't pull together like that now.

Best of luck yo you Norm, hope it works out for you.

Thanks.

Fingers and toes crossed here. Good luck!

Thanks. It is for the Director of Religious Education at our local church. One of the dds is still in the program, and they are both in youth group. So, I already volunteer for a bunch of it, and it would be nice to be paid. There is some other coordination and teaching that would go along with it. And, it is a job I can do now and transition into after retirement.

And don't worry. As a reminder, we are Catholic, so I can still drink with the window blinds open. :lmao:

Good luck Bubba, hope you get it.

Thanks.

I strongly suspect that sh*t will hit the fan.

I was lucky to spend a week on Oahu and one of the days was spent visiting the Pearl Harbor Memorial. If you ever get the chance, it is well worth doing. Very moving.

Our flight was delayed by 12 hours so we missed it. We vowed to try again some day.

Hopefully you can enjoy the time working a more normal schedule and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

December 13. Vegas.

Morning chaps, from a disappointingly dreary London.

December 13. Vegas.
Awesome. Is that the Xmas Party? If it is, I'll be your apprentice.
Welcome back home! Remember, even a day getting Christmas lights out beats a day at work.
Even if they don't twinkle.
Goiing to youngest DDs school concert tonight. Not exactly a relaxing break but this time of year is always busy.
I hear ya, buddy. We have 3 nights free between now and Xmas Day.
Supposed to be a good day today over here, sunny and in the 80's
Well enjoy that mate. Is it still humid this time of year?

Have a happy & prosperous Thursday all, and here's to making it through the last 35% of the week. Not that I'm counting.

Morning Gents,

things are starting to wind down at work for the Christmas break. Few meetings left to go but nothing pressing so there is time to catch up on some on-going projects.

Nice pictures from Pearl Harbour Cj, thanks for sharing. I would love to visit there someday.

So Thursday is TBT but I'm only throwing back a week or so. I'm invoking the proud dad clause and sharing some pictures of DS that I came across last night. They were taken by a local photographer during a game against the cross-town rival. Two of the pics are him doing what he does best, controlling the boards and blocking shots; the other is from something he would never do in the past and that is to take a shot from the outside.
