How are Kong lines? Child swap question

We will not have express nor will we have early hour. I'm wondering if we should plan to get to ride Kong during our next trip. (We will have other trips so not a big deal if we can't do it. If we don't get to finally ride Hulk, then that will be a big deal though!) We don't know our exact dates but sometime between Oct 7-14, which I think have moderate crowds.

Also, is there a way to use child swap and not make the child not doing the ride stand in the line? I've heard the line can be a little scary and I have a child who struggles with the Mummy line so I don't think he can handle the Kong line.

Lines are long shortly after the park opens. 60+minutes for my trip in September.

Yes, they were 60-75 min every time we were in the area. We made it there as soon as they opened the park after leaving EE in HP area and were on the ride in maybe 10 min. Then we got off and got in line again to ride and then we made it into the last room and then the ride broke down. They told us it was down but we could stay or leave. We waited about 20+ minutes and then they said the ride would be down for quite a bit longer and gave us a one time use Gold Express pass to use on any ride (including Kong if it was running later) and it expired in Oct.

Thanks. Sounds like it's not worth it for us. I'm not going to make my youngest wait for an hour or more for a ride he isn't even doing. Actually, 30 minutes is usually our limit for rides we all are doing! We can do Kong on a different visit.

Was just there a few days ago. Regular line was up to 90 minutes as the highest I saw. We had express pass and I timed it. From entering the line to getting on the ride was 12 minutes for us. It did break down while we were on for about 5 minutes. When we got off, they were offering an immediate re-ride for those affected during the stoppage.

Is it slower in the late afternoon / evening? Usually for the most part at the parks the wait times dramatically decline in the late afternoon / evening.

Lines have been 30 -45 minutes mornings we have been there.......usually around 10am-ish...........

Was an hour today, but ride had some issues and ride vehicle didn't do the full route, we didn't go outside and enter the main huge Kong doors, came in from the side. I "think" they only had one ride vehicle available.

My recommendation is if you're planning to go to Universal between those dates that whether it's a day, or a couple of days, to do it during the week days, and nowhere even near the weekend. Typically, those days are slower than general, regardless of what time of the year it is, and will even be more so since kids are now back at school. Also, I suggest that you'd be right there when the park first opens, or wait until the late afternoon / evening to go on the ride (since that's when things slow down), if the ride has a high wait times during the whole day.

Download the Universal app and periodically check wait times the few days before your trip and you'll have a perfect idea of times.

As for Child swap- they have the option to bypass the line completely and go through the exit. Now, the rest of the party would have to go through stand-by. The Queue is so cool, that I'd recommend going stand-by anyway just to experience it once.
A big trick is if the line is long, just coordinate it with the other adult who will be with the kid the first go-round in line. Example- say its a 45 minute wait. You go in line, and text/call your other adult who is with the child playing at the Jurassic Park play area once you get past the 2nd scare hallway (about 10-15 mins from ride). Then they can go through the exit, wait in child swap, and they'll only be in there a couple minutes before you're all ready to ride. My 3 and 7 year old loved it (although they dont get scared of anything)- but friends we were with whose kids are pretty scared of stuff all loved it too (3, 5, 7). They even went through the Queue- all we had to do was give them ring pops and suddenly they forgot where they were.

The other "adult" is a 13 year old. My husband can't be there most of the time. I don't have a cell phone yet and though I plan to finally get one, my 13 year old will not have one. So, I'll have my 13 and 10 year olds go through the line while I take the 7 year old to child swap without going through the line. BUT - we won't do this unless the ride is under 30 minutes. I will have to miss the queue this trip if we get on Kong at all. But there will be other times. (We are moving to Orlando so we will be able to leave the kids at home while we go for a few hours. However, first we need to buy a house and actually move! Husband starts his job with Universal in one week).

The 7 year old has sensory issues and is a timid kid. There is no way he would be able to handle the line. He struggles with the Mummy line. He finally can handle going on MIB but closes his eyes the entire time.

Dang- well that changes things :D

Luckily, he's a responsible kid and looks much older than his age so I'm hoping we won't have any issues using him as the other responsible person when doing child swap. It just means me being the one to miss the queues when they are too scary for the youngest.
