So, I had originally thought I would rent an ECV directly from the parks. However, I am now considering an offsite company, either Apple or Walker, and I'd love to hear from those who have already used these services.

Please vote and let me know your opinions. Please share your experience, pros, cons, tips, tricks, anything and everything you think might be helpful in my making this decision would be greatly appreciated!

TIA! :)

Not voting because I own my own personal mobility devices, but I will say that before I did, I rented from Walker. (This was several years ago)

I'll give you the same advice I give everyone else. You have to do your due diligence here, and you are the one best equipped to make the decision for you. What makes Walker more attractive to one guest may not matter to another who chooses Apple. And because of how humans are wired, much of your experience with *any* vendor will be driven by your expectations... so it might be more important to learn what to expect before you worry about who to rent from.

As I said previously, before I owned my own ECVs, I would rent from an outside vendor. Call each vendor on your short list (which, I'm guessing is Walker and Apple :D) and ask each vendor the same questions.

1. my size & physical needs
2. my anticipated schedule (so all day every day for me LOL)
3. my preference for 3 wheel or 4 wheel.
4. how "rainproof" their recommended scooter was, and what they expected of me if it rained.
5. their policy on drop off/pick up times
6. how they handle issues (like batteries that won't charge, or a mechanical failure) if you are in the Parks when it occurs.

I would also discuss with each vendor what scooter *they* recommend. They know their equipment better than anyone; after all, they deal with it all day, every day!

Once I had the quotes from 2 or 3 vendors, I would make my decision. Typically the deciding factor for me would be things like:

- price (of course)
- how they treated me on the phone
- what their stated "rescue" policy was if the unit broke down or the battery failed while I was in the Parks or at the Resort
- what other users had to say about them on the DisBoards (use that search box that lives at the top of *every*single*page* on the DisBoards to find what you are looking for - it works really well!)

Good luck!

I used Walker Mobility scooter last year with very good results. I will be using them again this year and will also rent a wheelchair. After researching they were the vendor that could provide both in the right size/weight needed. As a first time user they were very professional, patient and friendly with all my questions. I recommend them.

I voted for Walker, based on my telephone discussion with them. I'll let you know in a couple weeks, when I actually use the scooter I rented.

I've only ever used Walker.

I didn't have any problems. I charged the scooter every night, overnight. And it was fully charged in the morning.

My mother only uses Scooter Bug. She had used Apple scooter a couple of times, no issues at all but our next trip she would prefer a sunshade and Apple has stopped using them. She prefers to use a Disney preferred vendor since she wants it waiting there before she arrives.

I think this right here should tell you SOMETHING about how Apple does business....
You know these people had to be very dissatisfied with how Apple handled things in order to escalate it to the BBB....

Wow! I never knew Apple was so bad! Yeah, I knew they had some complaints lately, but I didn't think there were so many problems. And frankly, I'm shocked that Disney would do business with a company that has a F rating with the BBB. I know that Apple is not one of their PREFERRED vendors, just listed as a "featured vendor", but lets face it-when you contact Disney and get the list, even if they say "These are just featured vendors, NOT preferred" etc. etc. lots of people are still going to see it as the "preferred" list.

Walker is the best no question. I had a problem a few years ago with Apple and cost a day and a half of our vacation then Walker saved the rest of the vacation. Will always rent from Walker now and in the future.

I have used Scooterbug twice and they were awesome. Both times I had an issue that was not the fault of scooterbug (concierge gave my scooter to someone else, I was supposed to have a rear basket and the other one I broke the charging plug) both issues were fixed within an hour awesome customer service.

Is Walker a Preferred Disney provider? Do they have permission to drop off at the Disney Resorts??? I booked Apple because they are on the Preferred Disney list.

I did end up booking with Walker, and they stated they will deliver to the resort, however, they do not leave it with bell service. You must be there in person for drop off and pick up.

Was that an inconvenience for you? Are they flexible with what time to drop off and pick up?

It will be a bit of an inconvenience. Just for the pick up, as our flight out leaves earlier than their drop off time, so I will have to have them pick up the scooter during the afternoon of our last full day. But I figured I'd be alright.

Ok thank you for your experience.

Again I'll let you know in a couple weeks. But if it goes as they said, it really shouldn't be bad. They gave me an hour "window" but they also asked for my cell phone number. The way they explained it is that the "dropper off/driver" will call me when he gets within about 5-10 minutes. So she explained that I can be watching TV, having an adult beverage in the lounge, hanging out wherever. Then when they call, that's when I go to the prearranged wait spot. Sounds pretty good to me-we'll see how it actually goes!

That is how it worked when I was there in Dec 2014.

We had an hour window. He showed up within that window.

He called, I went out front and there he was. He had to have called as he came into the parking lot.

Good info thanks ladies.

Last trip Walker took our flight arrival info and scheduled the pick up time window (1 hour) about an hour later. The driver and scooter were at the front door of BC as we got off the DME. Couldn't have been easier. For pickup they called when they were 20 minutes away.
