2016 Destash - The more things you own, the more they own you

I hit a road block. My back has been acting up so not much decluttering going on. My Hubby will be putting in flooring in DD's room finally. Once her room is finished then he will paint my craft room. Luckily I went through my cabinet and organized it. Once my back feels better I will finish going through my closet and start moving stuff out for my room to be painted. I can't believe only 4 more month left of 2016. Hoping to start 2017 with DD's room and my craft room completed.

Maybe today I will just sit and shred my piles of paper

I had some time yesterday so I made up a list of all of the things we "need" to do around the house. Some include decorating, painting areas we already bought paint for, sewing things I've been meaning to sew (hole in a pillow, some pants, etc). Also included a LOT of "go through ____" - it really piles up! I had go through DS's closet, go through nursery closet, go through shoe bin, go through pantry, yada yada yada. Last night I came home from work and immediately pulled out the big shoe bin I moved in to our master closet last year and haven't touched since. I threw out 9 pairs of shoes and am donating/selling one! Woohoo! It felt great to empty the box - I threw out half, kept half and the ones I kept I put in a hanging shoe organizer. I always hold off doing these things because life is hectic - DH and I both work full time and we have a toddler and I've got a house to clean and I make dinner about every night unless it's leftovers. So tiring! It only took me 10 minutes to pull the box down and go through it though. Nice reminder that you can purge in little bits and pieces if you've only got a little time. Felt so good :dogdance:

I cleaned out two closets last week. There wasn't a ton to get rid of, but definitely a lot to reorganize.

There was also a closet at my mom's house to go through. Most of this stuff hasn't been touched in many years--since I last lived there around the time I finished college. There is going to be an epic Craigslist sale soon, trust me.

I did find something that could be appreciated on these parts: my childhood Mickey plush, a 1986 model. He's still in good shape and yes, I took him back to my place. He went on a few trips to Disney with me as a kid and was purchased there, presumably by my uncle (who lives there). I know I've had him almost as long as I've been alive. I may be purging a lot of stuff in the next month, but Mickey will be saved :)

I decluttered my paper!!!! Took about an hour but my dining room table is now recognizable once again.

I may have found an apartment! I'm super excited to take a look at it later this week. Will cost about the same and is probably a bit smaller but will save me plenty in the long run. Much closer to DS's school. I will need to start purging once again to make sure everything will fit into the small space.

This decluttering does it ever end?!?!? lol!
I felt a little better today and went through my craft room/spare room. I ended up going though the 1/2 top part of my closet. I have holiday bags filled with holiday new stuff.
I went through my Halloween bag and realized I don't need anymore Halloween stuff. 2 years ago I bought a bunch of stuff on clearance. It was super cheaper. I bought 3 packs of Halloween foam sheets, 2 packs of foam bats, 1 pk of foam pumpkins, 2 pks of foam ghost, 3 Halloweens mini paper notepads, 2 light up necklaces, 2 pks of Halloween treat boxes(10 each), 3 containers of Halloween foam shapes, 3 Halloween trick or treating bags, Halloween cup, Halloween candy dish.

I will be giving out lil gifts to my teens daughters friends and teachers if she takes them to school, if not I will take to coworkers
=notepads
=fill treat boxes with treats
=Halloween cup make a cute candy cup
=candy dish
=lil foam shapes I might add to suckers or pencils and give out or give to my goddaughter togive out to her classmates

I have foam sheets in orange, white, black and I think brown. What can I do with those???

I also found a bag of Easter stuff. I have about 10 items that will be used for my goddaughters easter basket next year.
I also found new stuff to get rid of....
=3 cute easter metal scence rabbit with fence and flowers
=2 wind thingys. It hangs outside and wind blows through it rabbit with long strips of flowy things Wind sockets ??? Not sure what its called
=1/2 bag of rabbit eggs
=1/2 bag of ball eggs
=monkey stuff animal
=3 egg foam garland
=1 plastic mini eggs garland
=2 fabric rabbit hanging decorations

I also have a xmas bag but those will be given out as lil gifts

I started out with my clean cleared off craft table and ended with a mess.

Hubby finally put in flooring in my DD's room. He will finish up her closet cabinet drawers and floor trimming. Next project will be my craft room so I really need to go through it all so when I have to pull everything out of there to paint and flooring it will be less junk.

I also organized my cookie cutters by holiday in gallon size ziplock bags, all my baking tips, sticks, bags

Tomorrows goal is to...
=move my baking stuff to upper cabinet in by pantry. That will open up space
=go through my foam drawer
=get rid of stuff in two closet drawers

With DD's help, I finally finished going through a pile of papers that has been next to my filing cabinet on my sewing table for years. :scared1: The trick was to have the shredder and the garbage bag and the filing cabinet in the same place as the papers. ::yes:: DD is inspired because when the area is clear, there will be room to keep her sewing machine out. I had to stop her for today because the next step is to remove the fabric from the desk top. I need somewhere to store that fabric, so I need to go through some totes and make some space. She also helped me go through my patterns. We now have 13 small boxes for my sewing guild's pattern sale in October. Most were ones from my mom when she passed away 10 years ago. I was able to get rid of the little girl clothing patterns and all of the Barbie doll patterns. I did (and still do) make American Girl doll clothes, but Barbies are just too teeny to sew for!

We had a great (and busy) weekend but fit some decluttering in to naptime yesterday! I got DH to help with the storage room in the basement. My dreams of a wrapping table/station had been put on hold by using the table for a catch all "I don't know where to put this" table. We went through and threw out a bunch of stuff, organized and set aside things to sell/give away. I'm so happy I can see the table again!! And we found some replica vintage signs that we had up in our old house in a stack under some things so we put them all up! It was great to get them off a table and up so we can enjoy them again. Making a list last week has helped so much in moving on these things.

Just sold 11 more books on ebay this morning!!!pixiedust:

End of summer has me very motivated to declutter a lot before I have to go back to school on Thursday!

Well done! I've been retired a year, and still haven't tackled a lot of my stuff. I did do stuff I moved to this house 27 years ago. I'm waiting for DD to get a classroom so that she can take it all away. That won't be until at least January now, though.
