Spain Trip report 7-23-7-31 plus post day.

Ps-- I got a little lost walking back to the hotel. I turned the wrong way or something. I got close but couldn't find it. Called the guide and she came and got me. Take the numbers with you in case of something like this.

The heat in Spain can melt you. We were there last year and it was consistently 46C (115 F). We went with Trafalgar, and our guide did a great job of starting 30-45 minutes earlier than scheduled in the morning or pushing some activities out a bit later so that we would be out of the "mid-day" heat (which was about 2 pm). The other interesting thing about Spain is that not nearly as much English is spoken there as in other non-english speaking countries across Europe.

Day 6- left Seville for Marbella (the beach)! Stopped in the town of Ronda on the way. This was unexpectedly wonderful. It's a very lovely place, with some amazing views. We toured the famous old bullring. It's apparently the oldest in the world. Very cool. We also had the option to visit a little museum (really little), dedicated to the bandeleros (Robin Hood style bandits) of the area. Then, we had on your own time for lunch. A pizza place was recommended and almost everyone went there. It was good.

Once lunch was over, it was back on the bus to Marbella. Our resort is nice, but I don't think Marbella is as beautiful as some of the other towns we visited. I also did not care for the bed at the resort. Not 5 star quality, imo. The place is beautiful though. We had a small drink reception upon arrival. Then most of us hit the pool. It was lovely. Dinner later was fairly good too, especially the lobster Carpaccio I had as an appetizer.

I agree - we went during the day but it was still a highlight for me!!

Hi Rapunzellover--if you can, try take the tour of Gaudi's Casa Mila (La Pedrera), specifically do the origins tour at night. The light show on the roof is absolutely spectacular. Tickets tend to sell out in advance, but if you have internet access you may be able to book. Have fun. We spent 2 weeks in Spain last year and had a blast.

Day 8- chilling at the resort! It's fantastic that ABD has changed the tour to end at the resort starting next year. I wanted to stay there. The beach club is great. I wish we had more time there.

Day 8-. We traveled to Malaga for the plane, but since we were leaving late and missing Barcelona's Picasso museum, we went to the Picasso museum in Malaga! Nice surprise. Then we had lunch in Malaga. It took too long we reached the airport later than intended. Fortunately, they held the plane as we were most of the passengers. But we left an hour late. We arrived in Barcelona, and rushed to Sagrada familia. Absolutely spectacular!! We had plenty of time and light, fortunately! Then, the finale dinner at Can Travi Nou (not part of the schedule any more starting next year). Great place, very pretty. But we didn't get to the hotel till about 11:30/midnight. But great cap to the trip.

All in all, I loved this tour, and would happily do the new, improved schedule in a heartbeat. Spain is a wonderful country! Despite the hiccups in Barcelona (which should be taken care of with the new schedule), it's a fabulous trip.

My post day-

The guides gave me the tixs for Picasso and Park Guell. They were timed for 12:30 at the park and 2:30 Picasso. I was also given a
hop on hop off tour bus tix for transportation.

I like these buses for seeing sights.
But they are not efficient means of transport. I unfortunately had my headphones conk out and missed the Park Guell stop. It's not near
the park, so it didn't seem recognizable. This meant I had to go around again, which made me 1.5 hrs late for my time for the park. They would not let me in. I waited to see if I could get in with other times, but after an hour, I changed my time to 7:30pm, and got on the bus to go to Picasso. Of course, they were full and wouldn't let me in late either! :( unlike the park, they had no other times that day. They could have given me time for the next day, but the next day was Monday, and they are closed then. Since I was leaving Monday afternoon, Tuesday was not possible. So I missed it after all, but made it to the park. The park is amazing. Sadly, by the end of the day, I was too tired to do much exploring. Oh well. It would have been nice to see more, but it gives me a reason to return to Barcelona, which is an absolutely fabulous city!! I spent some time wandering the gothic quarter, and it was fantastic! So nice. I wish I'd added an extra post day, since I had time before Scotland, but I chose more time in Scotland. Oh well, at least it should be cooler. I will definitely try to return to Spain at a cooler time of the year. I'm now waiting for my car to the airport. I was going to go to La Pedera and possibly Casa Batillo (they are right by the hotel, on the same street), but was too tired. Things for next time!

Sounds great! I've heard from many people that Spain is an amazing place to visit. I've never heard anyone say anything bad. It sounds like you had a great time (even with some if the issues that came up). Thanks for the TR and have a fabulous time in Scotland! That trip sounds like it is a 'can't miss'.

Thanks for the report Rapunzellover. We have been to Barcelona three times and never tire of just walking around, eating tapas and the history of such an amazing city. In Malaga we had a chance to go to the caves of Nergia (sp?) outside the city. If you ever return I advise highly to take a tour of these amazing underground wonders of nature. We agree that the sun in Spain is hot, hot, hot and does take a toll on your endurance plus with your Scotland trip I bet you will sleep on the return plane. Safe travels.

Couple reccomendations for this trip: Sunblock. Sun hat. Water. Do not forget these things. Plus, lots of cobblestone. Avoid flip flops. I got some great Keen Sandals. They were the best!
