Official 2017 Star Wars - Light Side Half Marathon Weekend (Jan 12th - 15th, 2017)

Has anyone heard what the course may look like this year? With Star Wars Land under construction, I know we ran backstage initially after start two years ago when I did it, have there been any recent races where a map showed the route for the 10K?

The DLH race courses will have to be altered too and that should be up in about a month or so. That will probably give everyone an idea. :)

I ran 7 miles on Saturday! Super proud of myself. I set out to do 6 again (which is my long run since Tink basically) and I felt good and decided to do an extra! yay! I have RnR San Jose the first weekend of Oct so I guess its time I start building my mileage up again.

I'm considering running the San Jose RnR for their 10k! DH is probably going to sign up for a 5k in SF for work for late Sept (Komen). Debating whether or not to do it as a run or as a walk with the whole family.

I THINK all the RnR SJ races were on Groupon last week. I know the half and 5k were at least. You should check and see if they're still on there!

It's a flat, fast course. Highly recommend for a good proof of time... dooo it. Do it!

Oooh, good to know about it being a good course for a good PoT.

Thanks for the heads up. It's still on Groupon. Will have to work things out with DH. He might have to work that weekend. It's definitely a nice price point!

How early is it advised to be in the area before the race? I'd be coming down from the Peninsula. How hard is parking?

Have only been doing DL and Tink in the past due to conflicts with high school sports conflicting with November and January dates. I am in for the half this year, finally! So excited. :-)

Hows everyone doing with running this summer? I admit that the heat and vacations have taken a toll on my weekly mileage. I'm hoping to do a 6 mile long run this weekend. The thought of doing anything longer than that just sounds terrible right now.
The heat and humidity down here in Florida is kicking my but. I have been trying to walk-run-walk to improve my time, trying to run 15 second of every minute. I have been doing my work in the morning when it is coolest, but I am so afraid of getting a migraine.

For those of you that have done this race before or are DL regulars, I'd love to hear your thoughts on must dos for me and my sister for race weekend. Neither of us has been to DL in over 10 years but we've both been to WDW many times. We're staying at Paradise Pier. We arrive late Friday night and will have to hit the Expo sometime on Saturday. Doing the half Sunday morning and leaving Monday morning. We have two-day tickets. I think we'd definitely want to hit the rides that are unique to DL or better in DL. Definitely want to visit Trader Sam's. Any another unique dinner/bar spots or snacks we should try?

As a WDW vet who just recently went to DL for the first time - I'd say must-dos are Big Thunder, Pirates and Space (all better than WDW in my opinion). WDW's Splash is better. They have Small World, Indiana Jones (but it breaks down a lot), Alice in Wonderland, Mr. Toad, Pinnochio - not in WDW. Storybook Land Canal boats is pretty cute. And Matterhorn of course...but that ride really REALLY hurt my back so I won't go on that one again. :(

DCA - Radiator Springs Racers for sure. Their Mermaid and Soarin' are the same (though I'd do Soarin' if you haven't see the new film). Toy Story is the same. Tower of Terror is better in FL. Paradise Pier is my favorite area in the parks - grab lunch at Cove Bar and a fast pass for World of Color. And hand-dipped ice cream bar at Clarabelle's.

Most striking difference will likely be wait times. Toy story abd Mermaid are easier to get on in CA, for example.

In addition to Ariel484's excellent recommendations, I strongly recommend you choose a nighttime spectacular at the DLR as they are very different from the WDW offerings. You may have to choose between World of Color at DCA and Paint the Night parade at Disneyland, but those are good choices to have.

I've been to WDW 3 times since 2006 and have seen the exact same fireworks show at the MK all 3 times. Disneyland is currently on its 3rd fireworks show in that same time period.

And if Disneyland brings back the wildly popular Hyperspace Mountain overlay after Halloween this year, it is spectacular.

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know if the Haunted Mansion will be open the weekend of this race? I know that they take down the Nightmare Before Christmas themed stuff in early January. I hope it doesn't conflict, as we've never been to Disneyland and we want to see the differences.

It has been closed the past two years during the races. Its a Small World is still open with its Holiday Theme as well.

Here are the dates from this year:

Jan 10 (Sun): Last Day for Haunted Mansion Holiday (re-open on 1/22) and Jingle Cruise

By the way, disneyland resort hotels can be reserved online where you choose your room category unlike the rundisney link. Paradise pier appears to be sold out, while disneyland hotel standard rooms appear to be gone.

Looks like Paint the Night Parade is going down after September 5th according to twitter yesterday. :(
