Rewards Visa or Premier Visa

I currently have a Disney Rewards Visa, but as my husband and I are planning trips more frequently, Im curious if the Premier Visa is worth paying the annual fee. Other than earning and extra 1% on purchases (not worried about that, I have other cards with better %'s) are there any of differences? It seems that we can still get discounts on park tickets, dining, and guided tours, which is what I'm most interested in. However, Chase doesn't advertise the actual savings Is it perhaps a better discount with the Premier?? it's hard to get a straight answer from them. They want you to pay the annual fee.Thoughts?? Thanks!!

I believe the discounts are the same. The only way the premier card is worth it to me is if I make over what the annual fee is by 100 percent (the fee is 49 so I'd need to make 100 dollars in Disney rewards a year for it to be worth its value)

I would go one step farther and say you need to earn $100 in rewards in the bonus categories for it to be worth it. Meaning you must spend $10,000 in the bonus categories, since you earn the 1% on everything with the regular card, anyway.

The premium card is not worth it to me.

We've had the regular Disney card since 2000 even though it is one of the least valuable rewards cards we keep. I checked into upgrading to the Premier card, but there are other cards with no fee and much higher rewards rates. It's real value is for Disney discounts and access to private Meet n Greets, which are identical for both cards.

I wouldn't bother unless you could get a good sign up offer. I knew we were going to charge a Disney Cruise last year so I signed up for the Premier card with a $200 sign up bonus offer. I charged the cruise, took the 6 months no interest payment option to pay off the cruise, and I will probably cancel the card in the next year and just keep the regular no fee card which I have had for years.

We upgraded and it was SO worth it to us. We use it as our primary card for all monthly expenses. We earned about 15x the annual fee in rewards last year...

There is a good sign up bonus right now going on. To me that makes it worth it plus the 6 month free financing for Disney trips. I mostly keep it for the merch discount and the meet and greets

I believe the ONLY difference is perks is that with the Premier card you can use the rewards towards airfare; that can't be done with the regular card. Any other discounts or offers are the same.

I'm not sure whether it's still true or not, but if you switch from the Regular to the Premier they didn't charge the upgrade fee until a year later and would automatically switch you back to the regular card if you didn't earn enough rewards to cover the fee.

May I ask where are you finding discounts on park tickets using a Disney Visa?

It's advertised on Chase's website when I used their "compare cards" feature. I haven't actually used my card for that purpose yet. In all honesty, I've only used it for merchandise discounts in the park. I didn't realize it had the other perks.

I'd keep the regular card for the perks, and look into getting a credit card that gives 2% on everything, like the Visa Venture card.

Interesting. But I can't find any indication of a discount on WDW or DLR park tickets with the Disney Visa. There's a special offer for a Broadway ticket package, and rewards can be redeemed for movie tickets or towards purchase of park tickets. In fact, small print specifically excludes ticket media from the shopping discount. I just didn't want anyone to read this thread and think "wow, I can get discounted tickets to Disney!" Probably not the reason to get the card, but it's worth reviewing the perks now-and-then for anyone who has the card and planning a trip.

I may have misunderstood. I'll have to research some more. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Doesn't the premier card give you 2% on gasm groceries, and restaurants? (At least it used to) Why else would you pay extra for it?

I'm actually not very concerned with earning rewards. I've got a different credit card that has a higher percentage for earning reward points. I'm only looking to compare the discounts that are available for each of the disney visa's. If they're the same, which as far as I can tell so far...they seem to be, then the annual fee isn't worth it.

Perfect thread as I was just considering getting a Disney Visa... but if I may, I read about the discounts on certain merchandise, etc. But what really does that look like in practice? Do you get 10% of everything in the gift shops? only certain shops or items?

Also, how many exclusive events are there that I didn't know about? If we only go for a week or so per year, are there always special perks for M&G? or are they rare enough that the likelihood of me using it during our visit is small? I keep seeing the word "select" places. Wondering how to find a list?

Thanks for any help understanding what all the Disney Visa gets me. (I get the 1% on purchases part, but I am more asking about the discounts and benefits once in the parks part)

There really is no difference in the no annual fee Visa and the annual fee Visa, except the 2% rewards in selected categories. The only reason to get the annual fee Visa is for the sign-on bonus of $200 (or more, usually a statement credit), but the no annual fee Visa is also offering a $200 Disney Gift Card upon referral.

Both cards get you:
10% off selected Disney merchandise at the Disney Store, WDW or DLR (as long as you spend $50 in eligible purchases pre-tax)
Special Meet & Greet with photo download (used to be a photo) at DCA or EPCOT
6-months no-interest for vacation packages/cruises (packages = room + tickets, cannot be room only)

In my experience, (at least 6 trips) as long as it's a Disney OWNED store, you'll receive the 10% off merchandise over $50. Hotel gift shops, Main Street USA, Mouse Gear, etc....you'll get the discount. Other stores like Aribas brothers and Starbucks, while on property, are not Disney owned. They will not honor the discount. Also, at the moment, my memory fails me as to which category the stores in the world show case fall into.

I'm confused.... I thought it was 6 months no interest on any Disney charges including fairytale wedding charges etc?

The financing offer is on "select packages" -- definitely NOT any Disney charges, though I don't know if the FairyTale Weddings qualifies. You'd have to ask your Disney wedding planner. It does not apply to room-only reservations, ticket purchases outside of a package, on-site purchases for dining/shopping/etc., Disney Store charges.
