DCP & Scholarships

Hey! I'm starting college at UGA in the fall and plan on doing the DCP either sophomore or junior year. I was wondering if anyone could answer these questions:

If I'm there with scholarships and take off a semester for the DCP, would I lose the scholarships?

Also, has anyone here done the DCP and still taken enough courses online for school to be considered a full time student (12 hours)? Is this doable?

Thanks :)

Every college and scholarship rules are different. You need to check with UGA and their financial aid office to see how they would handle it. If you are talking HOPE don't forget you have hours counting against you even when you aren't using it if you take classes.

My daughter was on a full scholarship almost through her freshman year when she was accepted into DCP. She spoke to her academic advisor and an assistant dean and they allowed her to participate in DCP and held her scholarship for a semester. A friend of hers was also accepted into DCP at the same time but she wasn't able to take time off of her program to participate in DCP.

Her university didn't offer any online courses in her major, so she didn't take any classes at all toward her degree for a semester, but she's a semester behind now.

It depends on the school. Does the school offer online courses? My friend on the program had to take a full load of online courses in order to do the program and not lose her scholarships and standing st the school.

I had just graduated so didn't have to do anything but that's taking a risk waiting until the last chance to get in.

DS will begin his DCP experience in August. He is a student at Auburn on full scholarship. All he had to do was take his acceptance email to the scholarship office and fill out a form. This allowed his scholarship to be extended. (If you think about it, most major universities have to do this. Students are encouraged to take internships as part of their programs.) I'm sure UGA has a process for deferment.

Thank y'all!! Yes UGA does have online courses but I'm thinking it'd be super busy doing those and working at the same time. Hopefully it'll all work out!

O.k. my first program was way back in 97 but I was able to get 10 credits through Central Michigan University. Basically you could just pay for the number of credits you needed. I believe I needed 10 credits at the time. In order to earn credits we had to go to all required seminars, have great evaluations at work site, 2 interviews in different parts of the company and paper when you returned home.(length of paper was determined by number of credits paid for.) The Central Michigan adviser did come down and meet with those of us on the program.

At the time of the Program I went to college in NH. My school was not sure what to do about the internship and being in school. I ended up taking a semester off and using the Central Michigan class as my credit for the program. I then transferred the Central Michigan Credit to my school in NH. I can't remember how I heard about the Central Michigan Credit. It may have come in some of the paperwork I received for the program.

Good luck and have the time of your life.pixiedust:

Oh, that's great! Hopefully I'll be able to find credits that can be transferred to my school. That sounds like it all worked out so well! Thank you!
