Does anyone have the CitiBank Cash Rewards card?

A while ago they told me I earn the rewards when a purchase is paid for. I called today and they said that's not true. I earn the rewards when I make the purchase, regardless if the purchase was paid for or not. Does anyone know what the standard is? Thanks!

There is a Citibank card called double cash. That one earns you 1% when you make the purchases and another 1% when you pay the bill. So you end up getting 2% in total. If you pay your bill in full each month, your current statement should show a 1% reward for the amount of new purchases on that statement, as well as 1% for the previous month's charges that you paid off a few days before this new statement's closing date. Is that the card you have?

No. It's an older card. I've had it since 2008. I only earn 1% one time.

Any other reward card I have had did give the rewards based upon the purchases that statement showed. You might be able to upgrade that card to the double cash, if you have any desire to do so. I did that with one of my cards.

I'm going to cancel the card anyway.
I just paid off a little over 10k and I was expecting a $100 reward check. They're telling me I already received the rewards. $78 since 2008 including building and paying off balances.... It doesn't make sense.

don't cancel ur card unless u can't product change and have an annual fee on it, u will lose ur account history and that will bring down ur credit score.

That's the way my credit card rewards programs work.

It makes sense when you've been carrying a balance for a long time.
You get the rewards on purchases. Interest charged on your balance is not considered a purchase.
