I am traveling with my 3 year old to the Poly in a few weeks. This is our first trip where he will be too big for a pack and play or crib. Has anyone had experience using bed rails from the resort? Do I need to request in advance or can I do that when I arrive? I'm worried about him rolling off the bed in the middle of the night. Thanks!

Oh, I never even thought of this! My DD is 3, and I have a rail on her side of MY bed. I didn't know the resorts offered bed rails.

does he use at home? I ask because one grandson pushed his off the bed. he did not fall out just not used to rail and did not seem to like. yes they can be pushed out as they just go between mattress and not attached to the bed frame

Yes, you can request bedrails at the resort. I believe they are first-come first-served after you arrive, so I'm not sure if putting in a request in advance makes any difference. But that said, I don't think I've heard of anyone NOT able to get bedrails.

Enjoy your vacation!

He doesn't use them at home but he is in a toddler bed which is much lower to the ground. We've only had 2 or 3 tumbles out of bed but being over tired and in a new bed makes me worried he might fall out (or I might just be up worrying!) I am open too to hear if anyone has anything creative they have done. I know some of the rooms have a small pull out style bed but we are in a standard at the Poly so am expecting 2 queens. Thanks for your help!!

My guy used to do that too. Depending on the layout, we gave him the bed closest to the wall. Put suitcases between bed and wall, covered them with a towel- then an extra pillow or two on top. Another thing we have done is rolled up a towel length-wise and put it on the bed edge under the fitted sheet. That was enough to give him a little awareness about the edge.

I prefer the inflatable ones over the ones they have. We will be bringing those. That way we can keep him in the middle of the bed. I don't trust him to not try to climb over the rail.

I use inflatable bed rails for my 3 and 5 year old. they are great! Something like $20 on amazon, and come in a travel bag with a foot pump to blow them up.

the grandson who pushed them out was used to toddler bed where the rail is attached. the guess is he tried to get up and it was in the way so he pushed out of the way. he fell landing on top of rail. this was in middle of night. they are not like a toddler bed rail

We've got bed rails from the resort the last 2 times. They've brought them to the room really quickly too. The second time I forgot to ask at check in and I just called from the room and they came right away! They just slide in between the mattresses so they are not attached to anything.

Thanks for all the responses!! I hadn't heard of the inflatable travel ones before so will definitely look into that!

We didn't have it at the time of our last Disney trip but we just bought a folding travel bed for our 2 year old from Amazon. We've used it on a few weekend trips and she sleeps so well in it. It doesn't take up much space if you're driving. However if you're flying bed rails are probably the way to go.

We used the bed rails at AKL last year when my son was 3 years old. They were old and very dirty.... many stains on them. I didn't have any choice so we simply placed pillows up against them as I didn't want my son even touching them. I have since learned that there are off site companies that will rent them and that they are very clean. If I had to do it again, I would definitely rent offsite.

I will look into these. My 3 year old falls out of her toddler bed quite often. I'm a little nervous about her being in a much bigger and higher bed.

I started using the inflatable ones with DS when he was 2.5. They're pretty wonderful and pack easily!

Yes i like them a lot. I use "The Shrunks" brand. If the mattress has a protector on it they work really really well, just pop it under the protector. I can't remember if disney mattresses have protecters or not. If no though, just slide it under the fitted sheet.

We used the WDW bedrails when DD was little and they were great. On DD's 2, 3 (2 trips that year) and maybe even 4 year old trips, we called WDW and had them note on our reservation that we needed bedrails. They were brought to our room upon our arrival-once they may have already been there before we even entered the room. When we checked in, they always had it marked that we had previously requested them. Don't know if it is true, but we were told that if you request them in advance they are put aside for you, where if you wait until you get there, it is a matter of whether they have any left or not. They were great, and DD slept fine with them. We would put the extra pillows along the sides too, but probably did not need to. We did the parks pretty much open to close, and she was always so wiped out at the end of the night that she went right to sleep in the middle of the bed. She was used to a twin bed at home (with a bedrail)- we tried a toddler bed for about a week but she hated it. She loved getting a "big bed" at WDW.
