My husband is considering doing a conference in January in Orlando and wants me to come along. My mom said she would watch our kids for us. We are doing a family Disney trip in March, but I have only ever been to Disney with my family. Anyways the Conference is only 3 days long and I was trying to decide what I would want to do with myself while hubby is in his conference. I decided that hey I am after all the Disney nut of the family so I will just buy theme park tickets for me and have some fun. Then I decided I didn't know how I would feel walking around the parks by myself...

So I want to know how does everyone usually plan solo trips? I am thinking of possibly going on some of the tours. I've always been interested in Disney history and I have never been able to do the tours before because my family would be bored to death of them. The tours I am considering are "Keys to the Kingdom", "The UnDISCOVERed Future World", and "Backstage Tales Tour". I figure those tours take up a couple of hours in the AM and then after lunch I can make ride a few rides and then meet up with hubby for Dinner. Has anyone ever done these tours? How would you rate them? Do you think they are worth the money?

I haven't done the tours but so want to. I'm moving down there this summer and plan to do those after I am a local.

But I will say solo trips are amazing. I've done 3 in the past year. I was nervous before my first one, but once you are there you will be totally fine.

If you love it that much then you will be fine! :)

Exactly what I am doing. In July this will be my second solo trip to Disney for a conference, and I will be doing the Keys to the Kingdom tour, it has better reviews than Backstage Magic- too much running around.

Let's face it, aren't there things you want to do and you can't because your family isn't into it? I'm Really looking forward to it.

Also planning:

1. Staying at the Grand Floridian, and hanging out at Narcoosee's.
2. Going to Trader Sam's
3. Actually staying for fireworks! I have never seen Wishes, and I have been to Disney over 20 times.
4. Pre-planning my birthday celebration in December.

Have fun!

Went solo last year around the end of September, didn't plan anything just turned up and went for it. Having done that I think for this year a little planning would help. Tours do sound pretty interesting, will keep this in mind

Thanks for all the encouragement! Hes currently trying to pick from 2 conferences in Orlando...the 1 in January or 1 the end of April...I am trying to convince him for January but he said the 1 in April sounds more interesting, LOL...I told him it will be too hot...his words were to me "what does he care he will be in the conference all day and get out for dinner when it cools down" LOL...I was like gee thanks...the crowds don't bother me that much specially since I am planning on doing the tours in the AM. We will more than likely be staying off site so I can just make my FPs for the 30 day mark for after lunch time...I don't really care about any head line rides anyways, LOL. My DS9 is the headline ride person and I just go on the rides for him, lol. I truthfully don't care about the rides anyways I would rather take my time in all the different shops that I never get to see bc my family HATES shopping, LOL...I am actually getting kind of excited about this now...my hubby and I have not been on a trip without the kids since our 5 yr anniversary and we have now been married 12 years, LOL...and when we went away on our 5th anniversary it was just over night to a little bed and breakfast, LOL.

I was nervous my first solo trip but it was so much fun I am planning at least 1, if not 2 next year, along with 1 with DH.

There are so many other people that are separated from their groups for whatever reasons that a lot of people appear to be solo when they are not, and really, people have so many other things to do, the only person that will care you're solo is yourself. I loved being able to pick and choose what I wanted to do, and being able to come and go as I please was great.

I don't think there is a better place to vacation solo than Disney.

I equally had so much fun on my first solo trip that I'm getting an AP next year and aside from a group trip in February, plan to do 1-2 solo trips as well! It'll be amazing, promise. I was really nervous when i first flew down by myself and once I checked in and was raring to go to MK, all the anxiety was gone! Just gotta get over the initial hump/fear. It'll be one of the best vacations you've ever had.

I was able to go with DH to a conference last week - we stayed at the Marriott Orlando World Center. He had to work Tuesday - Friday; my AP was still good and my parents kept the kids. It was the last week of April and while it was warm, it was not unmanageable.

I was very hesitant about going off on my own - that is not my thing. I'm an only child who HATES being alone. However - I had an AMAZING trip. I would (and hope to) do it again, many times.

I decided no rental car - the hotel charges for parking and between that, the cost of a car it was going to be more expensive than my plane ticket to have one. I had no trouble using the hotel shuttle when times were convenient and Uber when it wasn't I saved a fortune and it was very easy to manage.

I wanted to make sure I got out the door each day, so I planned something fun for myself each day that would get me out of the hotel. I had breakfast at Be Our Guest one morning, FP for great rides and then enjoyed moving at my own pace each day. I was able to enjoy meals on my own and people watch, and there are great restaurants where as a party of one I was thoroughly entertained. Be Our Guest meant I got to sit in the room I wanted - the rose room/west wing - and nobody complained about the lightening to me; for lunch at Sci Fi I was able to enjoy the show and noticed new things. When I was tired I could sit and have a drink, and if I wanted to ride something again I could!

Do it!! You won't regret it.

Go for it! I've done several solo and loved them...take in Disney Springs, go check out the deluxe hotels, do specialty tours, do restaurants your family wouldn't like. :) I'm on a solo trip right now and I'm doing the Wild Africa Trek for the first time next Sunday!

Enjoy your solo time! The April conference may work well for you as Epcot's Flower & Garden should be under way then. I've done a number of solo trips & have loved every one of them. Try not to over commit yourself with extras like multiple backstage tours. Possibly get up early for rope drop and do those rides & attractions that you really love or try new ones that you've always wanted to check out but family wasn't interested in. Enjoy the shopping in the World Showcase in Epcot & eat something different for lunch that appeals to you. Have a great time!

Went solo last June. I didn't initially know how I would feel about it either but ended up LOVING it! I'd do another in a heartbeat if given the chance, I kind of feel like we all need to see Disney solo at least once in our lives.
I went to MK and EPCOT and also to AKL to just hang out one afternoon and watch the animals and talk to the young guide CM from Africa.

What I loved the most was that I wasn't rushed around like I am with my family, could eat whatever/wherever I want without having to ask others their opinions lol, and ride whatever I wanted etc.
