Can anyone tell me, if you have booked VIP entry for an allocated timeslot, but the park opens sooner than this, can you "check in" early to get access to the park before the VIP tour starts?

It's not a private tour, just the general VIP experience.
Anyone done this who can give me an idea of what's on the menu?
Much appreciated!

It's set up buffet style. The carving station has NY sirloin and turkey. There is salmon and shrimp and chicken dishes along with a pasta. Salads and fruit.

Very excited!
Can you tell me what the food is on offer for breakfast and lunch?

Upon arrival there is a buffet style assortment of continental breakfast type forward - all high quality. They provide you with water before and during the tour. The lunch is fantastic - probably the best buffet we have had in terms of food quality. Can't recommend it highly enough!! Have fun!!

Thanks for the feedback on the buffet, looking forward to it even more now!

Just to confirm back from my original question, I have also now had confirmation from Universal themselves that we can indeed enter the park early, we just need to return back to check in for our VIP experience at the given time.

We booked the VIP experience for April 2nd. I went on yelp and seen people posting pics of crab legs and such for the vip lunch. Im so excited. We also get a vip pouch with ponchos chap stick and such. Free waters all day. I hope some people will post a review here. We also get free valet parking. We are booked for the 1st tour of the day. I wanted to make sure we would get our moneys worth.

So...what did you think?

Curious to know how this went as well. Planning to book for Mid/Late August. I'm particularly curious as to how the unlimited FOL passes work. After your group tour is done, they cut you loose and you're free to roam about the park on your own until closing with your FOL pass, eh?

This tour is by far one of the coolest things we have done as a family. It is so fun. We have two teenage sons 13 and 16 and have a booking to do this tour again mid July. We did it two years ago and loved it. The no-thinking, just follow your guide was wonderful. I'm the planner in the family so it was a true vacation day for me. The food was great at lunch. We did an earlier tour 8:30 I think and that worked out well because it left us time later in the day to use our front of the line/vip passes on our own. This year, I want to try the studio tour at night as well. So we may take an afternoon break and go back to the park. So looking forward to this again! And it is a ridiculous amount of money but clearly worth it to us because we are paying a second time lol. We did book a couple months back before prices jumped $50 per ticket luckily. Looking forward to hearing others' experiences here in anticipation!

Yes, that's how it worked for us 2 years ago. You should either call or email the VIP folks. They are very helpful and get back to you quickly via email. Happy planning. It's so fun!

Is re-entry permitted?
e.g. if the main part of our tour finishes mid afternoon and we wanted to go to our hotel and change then pop back for a couple more hours of ridetime, can we do that?

OK, as one who has done this multiple times, the last was in April after Harry Potter opened.

1. Get the earliest time as possible.

The basic procedure is head to the Valet parking (easiest access is to take the I-5 to the 101 north to the Lankershim Blvd exit, make the right, and then another right at the large sign and go up the hill to the Frankenstein Parking Structure and Valet Parking Entrance. (That is one off-ramp past the main Universal Studios one).

2. Walk to the entrance, and then go through security, to the right of the main turnstiles will be a VIP Check In door, no matter what time your actual reservation is. If they need you to return, they will get you into the park through another door and let you know when to return.

3. You are brought to the meeting room upstairs, where there is a light breakfast buffet area and when you get to find your host and other members of the group. (Usually under 20, usually size is 12 to 16).

Then the park makes a decision as what to do first, two main options. (Decision is to help keep waits low for everyone)

Place you directly on the enhanced Backlot tour, with a private vehicle that only has your group, though sometimes two. This tram does have multiple stops where you get out of the tram to walk through a soundstage, the Prop Warehouse and more. (All subject to current filming and does change frequently). It last about 3 hours on average.

Or a walking tour of Wizardly World of Harry Potter, and the Front of the Line access to the rides (though there is no requirement to do them), and special access to the Magic Wand Shop.

And then in the morning, you get the other of the two options mentioned. Later check-ins might get lunch in-between the two.

Then you are taken to the special private Lunch Buffet, which is very upscale and near Minion Madness on the upper level.

Then you have a more relaxed experience that is more flexible, and if you opt, can just go on your own.

But the host will tell you specific times to meet up with them at specific shows for special backstage access. The park knows that not everyone wants to do every ride for multiple reasons. So you can opt to use the host more or be more free. (Remember that the Host has to get their won breaks for meals, breaks, etc. and is designed to allow that to happen).

Your VIP Pass will allow you Front of the Line (also known as Gate "A") for every attraction, and reserved seating for the shows (if there at least 10 minutes prior to start). And unlike the cheaper Front of the Line passes, unlimited trips on attractions, in fact, you could go back to Wizardly World and ride those attractions again.

I highly recommend it if works in your budget.

And yes, you can get an re-entry stamp and come back to the park. Your VIP Credential has a bar code that is only valid for the day issued, and is good from open to close.

Hope that helps.

@Darkbeer1 , what type of food offerings did they have at breakfast and lunch? It looks similar to a cruise ship buffet on the website pictures. Just wondering if they have normal type things like eggs and bacon at breakfast and anything basic like hot dogs/hamburgers/chicken strips at lunch.

Breakfast did have hard boiled eggs, and breakfast croissants that had meat and meatless versions, and more, but it is fairly small. (and the kitchen is not onsite in the meeting room). They call it a light breakfast

And yes, Lunch is similar to a quality Cruise Ship Buffet with chefs making items to order and does offer more basic items due to the fact that they do have a decent percentage of "kids" items to match the guests on the tour. And it does have a kitchen/prep area as part of the facility.

Here is a link to about a 20 minute YouTube video taken by a guest that has a good look at the Buffet items at minute 13.

Thanks for all this useful info!

Random question - was just thinking that on rides like Revenge of the Mummy, in Orlando lockers are usually free for a short amount of time as you have to store your things before going on certain rides. Is this the same in Hollywood?
