Why Not Now? Reaching weight loss and fitness goals in 2016--All Welcome!

Well I was up a little so 0% for this week. Down a it by that but I know my body can't help it. Hoping to flush the water retention out for next Saturdays weigh in. I will need to be extra careful on my weeks eating and make sure I get my activities in.

I'll try to keep checked in daily or alternate days at least.

To think about for today...
Happy Monday! What is one think you can do today to set yourself up for a successful week? If you stayed up a little to late last night watching football (and had a little too much fun) how can you get back on track?

I have my notebook in front of me right now to start logging food! And, since I haven't exercised in over a week due to this stupid cold, I plan to get back at it today. Since I am still not feeling 100%, I am just going to do the elliptical or a DVD at home. I am going to add in strength training this week instead of all cardio.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My weigh in this week was not pretty :( I was 167.0 yesterday. I knew it wouldn't be great since I didn't exercise or track my food. But, it's total motivation for me to start this week off right. I packed a healthy breakfast and lunch for work. I am going to track all my food again and add exercise back since I can breathe a little better.
I am thinking of joining a Dietbet. Has anyone ever done one? Any advice or opinions?
I am off to work and to a short week! Whoohoo! We don't have school Friday or Monday. Although, Friday is an inservice training for all staff. It should be a good training, though. We are having Alice Training, which is a training for an intruder/active shooter in the building. It's supposed to be a great training and also interactive so I won't be sitting there listening to people talk about data for 8 hours!
Anyhow, have a great Monday :)
Jill
So my husband says to me this weekend that he can see a difference in me. Of course I think he's full of it and saying it to get out of the doghouse but I'll take it. Can't wait until it's really true though! Haha!
Men! :rotfl: Although, he may see a difference! Other people seem to notice changes when we don't.
My eating went well yesterday, but my workout plans were foiled by pep band. DH worked and I totally forgot about getting DS to and from the school for the basketball game last night. Tonight I am meeting with the other PTO officers for dinner and to discuss business, so I'm not sure I'll work in exercise tonight either. Sigh...Guess I'll plan for Wednesday.
It's quiet around here lately. Hope everyone is still here and following along!
Off to work for the day. Have a good one!
Jill
It's Mardi Gras here! Except that that February anxiety stuff appeared and I've spent the day dealing with that crisis. Sigh. Fortunately it has not derailed me (yet) and I'm holding steady. Hoping to make it to the gym tonight sometime. I've missed all the parades this year and haven't had any king cake. That's just sad. I keep telling myself I can have king cake next year. When I'm skinny. :-/
Happy Monday! What is one think you can do today to set yourself up for a successful week? If you stayed up a little to late last night watching football (and had a little too much fun) how can you get back on track?
This is especially appropriate today for me. I was out last Thursday and Friday for dinner and then the Super Bowl. I tracked well, and did really well, and even had 20 points extra left for the week. But.....I ate many more carbs than usual, and I think it caused a (temporary) weight gain. I don't know for sure, because I had a late work meeting and missed my WW meeting on Monday night. Typically, this is when I then overreact ("I gained weight and it isn't fair-I made sure I stayed within my points"), then really go off program and then throw it all away.
I DO NOT want history to repeat itself. I asked myself what I would say to a friend who shared the same scenario with me and tried to remind myself of those things all day. I packed a good lunch with protein, veggies and fruit and since my husband and ds are out tonight, I am making a similar meal for dinner.
Hello all! I was gone for a long weekend with my 2DS to catch the launch at KSC so did not send in my weight. Great trip! I did come back about 1.5 up but that is now gone. I feel like I am just starting over again. By now I should be down 1-2 lbs, but I could have guessed with a trip in there , it would probably be a little less than that.
Yesterday was bad! Bad all around. One of those stressful emotional days that ends with excedrin pm. I didn't drink half the water I should have and while I didn't go off my plan, I did eat more than I should have.
I woke up this morning feeling rested and completely unmotivated. Stumbled to the scale and discovered myself down over a half pound!
Definitely was a kick that I needed to feel motivated again. And probably the lesson is that it's ok to have an off day, and your body probably needs it. No exercise (didn't even hit half of my normal step count), no bad food, more calories than wanted. Anyway, moral of the story is don't give up! A bad day isn't necessarily a bad day!
I've been writing food along with tummy symptoms in a mini notebook every day this week so I can keep up with what is happening when and what I had been eating. Currently seems all over the place. I've been trying to limit or avoid certain trigger foods that are common. On top of that this week has been throwing a lot of stuff to get done and instead of working on my tax filing tonight I was doing another task that is urgent. It messed up so I'm frustrated and will have more tasks to sort that out. Not good to be left hanging on things when you have GAD(general anxiety disorder) at all. :crazy2:
I've been off plan exercise wise so far this week. I just have the Skating on Sunday. I'll do some upper body lifting and get intervals on the bike after I eat in a few. We are eating late because I was taking care of the task earlier and getting frustrated with websites(medical renewal) that have too many bugs and flaws. :worried:
I want to see a loss this Saturday so go to do something. :) Food's been pretty decent and appetite been fairly low. I need to see if I messed something up on MFP my calories went up when I redid something so if I don't lose this week its because they really messed it up. I just put myself back to sedentary. I work and sometimes its active sometimes not much. Currently not very active. I'll keep it back where it was because realistically it isn't anymore than if I was home. Some walking here, some dishes there. Stuff like that.
Good morning. :) It looks like it has been a quiet week here.
I got a reminder today via fb that at one point I was healthy and fit. My profile picture here popped up as a memory on fb. That run happened 4 years ago today. It feels like a lifetime ago. So here's to getting on the wagon once again.
I have been doing well with rehabbing my foot and my push-up challenge. Other than that not so much.
I am off to do replies and will update the chart later today. Hope everyone is still here with me. :) I do not know why I am struggling so much, but determined to figure it out.
Do you think clutter 'causes' weight gain? Or impedes your ability to lose?
http://abcnews.go.com/Lifestyle/lose-clutter-lose-weight-peter-walsh-book/story?id=30322571
BTW there are lots of articles on this topic if you are interested in reading more. :)
I absolutely think that when my house is a mess and I am disorganized that I eat more and less healthy. I think it's more that when my life is cluttered, my brain feels cluttered, which leads to stress and bad choices.
I'm back at 183 so a total of 7lbs in Jan. I'll have to focus on that, I made my goal, instead of the fact that that was all in the first 2weeks, lost nothing the last 2! So need to step it up a bit. I worked a little harder on my workout today, jogged (slowly, but my legs felt it) for a bit today on the treadmill and I am not a runner. My Feb goal is the same, 5lbs. And I'll add drinking more water plain, without adding things to make it taste better. :-)
Great job in January! I hope it is a successful February!
Started out today at 167 pounds...the lowest I've been since I started towards my goal:goodvibes. It motivated me to get to the gym! I figure that the less I weigh, the easier it will be to run:crazy:. I started with some weight training (a little arms, chest and legs) to warm up. Apparently it worked because I ended up going 3 miles in just over 40 minutes:cheer2:. Certainly not my best time or pace, but it IS the best I've done since I've been cleared to run again. So far, the knee is doing fine:thumbsup2.
Glad that knee is cooperating!
I really need to do some clean up and organization in my cupboards. Once I feel better I will start.
I started feeling sick last night and feel like doing nothing and eating everything I shouldn't. Anyone else feel this way when they get sick? My throat is hot and burning. So don't have time to be sick this week with the hockey tournament this weekend. I forced myself to go for my walk today to stay on my walking schedule.
Great job getting that walk in. I hope you are feeling better!
Omgsh, I woke up with a terrible cold. I should've known last night when I fell asleep on the couch at 8:00! I just told DH that I am chilled, therefore, I want to eat warm filling food. Stuffed shells was on the menu for today, so I did splurge and have a couple. I didn't feel well enough to workout and figure that my body just needs rest, so I'm not expecting a loss this week.
Good for you for going walking and hope you feel better soon!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Happy Groundhog's Day and thanks to Phil for bringing us an early spring :)

So, as mentioned above, I have a stupid cold. I'm going to try to get some form of exercise in, but I don't want to push it. I know I need rest. Unfortunately, I'm not too hopeful for a loss while I'm sick and not exercising. I'm still tracking calories, but it's just not the same.

I am excited for February, though. Seeing a decent loss in January really has me motivated to get back in some pants that I used to wear to work. I refuse to buy new clothes when with some hard work I can fit in the clothes I already have.

Well, DH just went to sleep before he has to leave for work, DS9 just walked in from a friend's house and needs to eat, and DH12 just handed me a paper I need to "read and sign" from school. All at the same time. Convenient for DH, right?!?! :rolleyes: Off to do what a mom's gotta do...

Have a great night :)

Jill
Hope you are feeling better Jill. I am right there with you on the clothes...but if I don't lose some soon I am not going to have a choice. I feel so sad and frustrated with myself, but that is a waste of energy so time to do something about it! I hope it's a great February for you!

To think about for today...
Do you eat breakfast? How do you think breakfast fits into your overall health plan.

http://www.womenshealthmag.com/weight-loss/breakfast-and-weight-loss-0
This article talks about different studies regarding weight loss and breakfast.
I do eat breakfast. It is the one time I really miss gluten. I have to be careful with dairy as well--so no yogurt or oatmeal for me. We have started making corn tortillas from scratch--really easy and takes about 10 minutes, so going to look at alternating an egg wrap and breakfast cookies. Again, for me it is all about the planning--which I keep failing at! :)

I am not a breakfast person at all but in the last few years I have realised how important it is to eat it so I now eat breakfast everyday. It usually isn't anything big but it is something. I hate "wasting" my calories first thing in the morning since I don't enjoy it that much.
I get that 'I want to save my calories attitude' too, but then it usually backfires. :)

I used to eat breakfast around 10am or so, didn't want to look at or smell food too early in the morning. Now with reducing calories and exercising, I wake up starving. So now I always eat a small breakfast first thing. I'm all for eat when you're hungry, you're body knows, whether it's breakfast at 7 or 10 or 12, etc.
When I was running a lot I woke up hungry too. :)

I have not been a big breakfast eater, but am trying to change my habits here. I make my own latte every day, with about 1/3 cup of milk. I have started having a small yogurt as well most days. I have also found a recipe for muffin sized crustless mini quiche-basically with egg, cheese and spinach. I plan to make some this weekend and freeze. I'm not sure how much it really impacts my weight loss, but I think it sets me up in a positive way for the day....a healthy breakfast and lunch (both which I bring to work) set up me for making good choices all day.
A healthy breakfast and lunch definitely encourage a healthy dinner!

I do eat breakfast. My first break of the day (planning period) is at 11:30, so I have no time to eat after 7:45 and before 11:30. I would starve! I take something with me to work so I can eat as close to school starting as possible so I am not ravenous at lunch. I usually have 2 hard boiled eggs and a yogurt or steel cut oatmeal and fruit. We usually eat dinner early since DH leaves for work at 5:30 pm. So we eat dinner at 4:30/5:00. Sometimes I eat something small before bed like yogurt, fruit, hummus and cucumbers, or a few pretzel thins. Sometimes I don't. So I am hungry in the mornings!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Omgsh I have this terrible cold. :sick: It's gotten worse since the other day. Today I woke up and couldn't breathe through my nose, had a headache, sore throat, ear ache and my back aches. Oh, and I've sneezed about 2 billion times today. Kleenex and hand sanitizer (or hanitizer as my students call it) are my best friends. I'm a terrible sick person! I am so whiny, just ask DH. :rotfl:After DS's piano lesson, I went to Walgreens and bought some super strength cold meds. I hope it helps at least a little. I bought PM stuff too, so I'll be taking that in an hour and heading right to bed. I hope I feel better this weekend. My nephew's marching band is hosting a soup fest. I cannot wait to go and get some warm yummy soup. I am going to try not to eat too much, but they have sooooo many crock pots of soups that I like to try new ones to add to my dinner list.
I'll be honest. I've dropped the ball tracking food the last 2 days. I just haven't felt like it. I am going to give myself a break since I'm not feeling well and start back up as soon as I feel better. I'm just not eating right and not in the mood for cold things like yogurt, veggies, and hummus. I did manage to jump on the elliptical for 15 minutes yesterday. My only workout this week...:( I think rest is definitely my priority.
Well, enough whining! I hope everyone is still motivated and plugging along. I'll check back when I get a chance.
Jill
Feel better Jill! You can get back on track once you are feeling better. I find that when I have a cold things taste different, so I know I definitely eat differently as well.
Well, I broke down and joined the gym today. My feet just aren't improving enough for me to exercise super well, so I paid for a month at the gym to use the elliptical and be able to give my poor feet a rest from walking. I'm hoping to not have to go for a second month. I like using my treadmill at home instead of going into public in my workout clothes and having to be social. Yuck. But at least I can now exercise properly!
I hear you on the foot issues. I am so tired of battling my feet. I have been to p-t so many times. Trying some new stuff at home this time and praying that it does the trick. Hope it's going well at the gym.
To think about for today...
Do you ever participate in 'meatless mondays' or do you work vegetarian meals into your meal plans at other times? What is your favorite meatless meal?
I used to be 100% vegetarian, then the gluten issue happened. We eat mostly vegetarian at home, but I will eat meat out or when traveling. My favorite meal right now is roasted veggie fajitas with homemade soft corn tortillas. Yum!
I am vegan...so ever day is meatless!!! My husband does the cooking and he is amazing. My favorite meatless meal is a lasagna he makes. He only uses 5 strips of lasagna noodles for the entire dish and uses zucchini as noodles. He also makes a vegan ricotta out of soy milk. A very large portion of it is only 5 points (for those of us doing weight watchers).
Today was my weigh in day. I lost 1.4 pounds this week for a total of 10!
Congrats on the loss!
That dish sounds great!
Quick check in. Down 2.6lbs this morning. I was a vegetarian for 5 years and have had lots of good meatless meals. I will check back in after our first 4 games at the tournament. Got to go!
Congrats!
It's my weigh in day too. I'm down one pound to 147.0 3 more lbs to go for the month. 32 more to go total. :)
Congrats!
Super Bowl is small for us this year. We used to do a big party with friends, but the kids have grown up and most aren't home anymore! And I appreciate all the opportunities to spend time with my parents. My dad is making a 7 layer dip with tortilla chips and meatballs in BBQ sauce. I can avoid those easily. He was going to bring spinach dip with bread chunks-that is a trigger for me! Glad he changed his mind. I am making deviled eggs and have 2 kinds of hummus with veggies. I also bought 2 Trader Joe's appetizers-an onion tartlet and spinach and kale balls. I plan to eat before everyone comes over-fruit and my tomato/garbanzo bean salad, so I won't be hungry, so I can make good choices.
Sounds like a yummy and healthy super bowl party!
Checking in to post my super bowl menu--all healthy! Just have to watch those portion sizes now. Go Broncos!
Avocado fries with cilantro and lime sauce, turkey and black bean chili (topped with veggie cheese and Greek yogurt), blue organic corn chips with organiz salsa, and skinny coconut shrimp.
I'm super excited about that shrimp! Lol
Plus I'm down another .9 lbs. so 1.9 so far for Feb!!! 2.1 to go! (Totally wasn't a weigh in day but I'm excited. 8.9 lbs down now!)
Yum! And congrats!
Thanks for sharing! I agree. If it were not for this group and another group I participate in, I would have completely quit. I know I am not having much success, but I am still here. Being 'brutally honest' with myself I am making some really bad choices, including choosing to fail, but by continuing to come back here and continuing to participate, I do believe I can turn it around. :)
Well I was up a little so 0% for this week. Down a it by that but I know my body can't help it. Hoping to flush the water retention out for next Saturdays weigh in. I will need to be extra careful on my weeks eating and make sure I get my activities in.
I'll try to keep checked in daily or alternate days at least.
Happy Monday! What is one think you can do today to set yourself up for a successful week? If you stayed up a little to late last night watching football (and had a little too much fun) how can you get back on track?
Drink my water. Drink my water. Drink my water. Why is this so hard!!!!????
Hang in there Jill! You can do it!
I did a dietbet--I lost. :) But I know a lot of people have success with using it as an external motivator.
So my husband says to me this weekend that he can see a difference in me. Of course I think he's full of it and saying it to get out of the doghouse but I'll take it. Can't wait until it's really true though! Haha!
I was not shocked by any of this, but it is was a nice wakeup call reminder of how many calories are in typical foods.
I got 5 out of 10 right and the ones I guessed wrong I guessed over the right amount. I am being really good about tracking everything I eat on MFP which really helps you realise how many calories are in things for such a small portion. If it is something higher in calories and easy to take too much I will weigh or measure it. Last week I had some pasta with my family and I measured out my 1 cup and was it ever a sad amount from what I would usually eat. My daughter said "Is that all your going to eat?!" LOL. I did have salad with it but pasta is so high in calories.
Some like the soda are misleading. I know 140-160 are in 12 oz but they didn't say todays serving per them I see people that drink 12 oz cans or people that drink 44oz cups or bigger. It's more like guessing what todays portion is. And not many people ask how many ounces is my french fries. LOL I just think they didn't get them quite accurate on some. It's silly and more like the foods did NOT get more caloric the portions got bigger but they want you to guess the portion and the new calories. I just didn't like the quiz.
Good morning. :) It looks like it has been a quiet week here.
It sure has been quiet here! I did manage to hold it together this week and seem to be on the downward path again. But, I have alot in the next couple of days. I was at Panera tonight with my dd (luckily a place where good choices can be made) and at a training tomorrow where food is provided. My biggie is dh and I are going with another couple to a winery dinner Saturday night for Valentines Day. I don't think we've been out for this since we were dating and we've been married 25 years this summer! I not even sure how to count the points.....
Tempura Prawn Salad: Green goddess, grapefruit, shaved fennel, prosciutto, avocado
Roasted Sea Scallops:Vegetable sauté, thai curry, coconut rice, ginger, cilantro
Grass Fed Filet Mignon: roasted shallot, herbed spaghetti squash, carrot purée, red wine reduction
Luckily these types of tasting menus tend to have small portions. I also plan to not have the wine pairings and just have one glass of wine. I also plan to take the dessert home and let my husband enjoy it on Sunday. I also plan to focus on eating fruits and veggies during the day with a littlle protein, to maximize my daily points. I also have all of my weekly points available, as of now.
I want to focus on the fact that I am planning for the very special dinner, and it's a choice (I'm not "cheating"). But I would appreciate any advice on the points for this meal!
What does Oprah say--you can eat bread and lose weight....just not very much bread. ;) It really is all about portion/calorie control.
I think the point was to show us that the typical portion we see today is MUCH larger than in the past. For instance, McDonald's is not that excited about you ordering a small fry anymore, and soda is sold in 20 ounce bottles.
I do not have any insight on points, but it does sound like you have spent some time thinking about how you are going to handle the evening. It is definitely not cheating--it is learning to work a special evening into your plan. :)
I had an ok day yesterday. :) I was on plan, but still lacking in the exercise. Our little foster puppy is keeping us very busy. She was just spayed, so she has to have a cone on when we can't see her, and she is VERY energetic most of the other time. We are having a cold snap, so not getting outside much and she is bored. Our previous foster puppy was adopted this week along with one of his sisters. :)
Have a good Friday! :)
