This years Bands Brew and BBQ starts earlier than it has in the past. It runs weekends from Feb 13 through Mar 6.

One thing that does appear to be the same - the acts will not be announced more than a week or two before the concert (since we are already under 2 weeks to go before the first weekend).

Rats would love to see Gladys Knight but have kids from TN here for a gymnastic thing at Wide World of Sports. . Saw Smash Mouth at Disney a few years ago. Hopefully we can get there next weekend.

I'm not a fan of posting the acts only a week before as not being a local you just can't plan your trips based on the groups playing, but if this is the way they feel they have to do it I'll deal with it and be pleasantly surprised or disappointed when my weekend comes.I'll be there for the last weekend so I'm hoping for some good groups to close it out. Also saw Smashmouth at Disney, they were very good.

You can thank all of SeaWorld's friends that love "Blackfish" for this. I think after the debacle a couple of years ago (with bands that pulled out because a couple hundred people signed petitions online pleading for them to not play at SeaWorld); they are probably, for a while, going to only announce a week out.

I don't think it was only due to the petitions, if you listen to some of the reasons that they pulled their acts it has more to do with their unwillingness to be associated with that particular business model. Willy Nelson in particular.

I also think that lumping "SeaWorld's friends" into a category with a derogative tone is uncalled for. I have read John Hargrove's book and think he has some very valid points that need to be addressed. Perhaps a quick read to discover both sides of the issue is important. It is also important to note that there is only one person on the Blackstone Corp's BOD that has any animal husbandry background, so top down decisions are not necessarily in the animals best interest.

As an animal trainer and educator with multiple degrees, I was disappointed when I went to SeaWorld as was my family. We have chosen not to return. I am not an animal activist, just someone who believes in common decency to those that have been entrusted to us.

A quick business trip came up and I'll be able to hit up Sea World on Sunday for Gladys Knight!!!!Can't wait to try some of the food this year.

I'm not here to get into an argument about anything related to thoughts on how SeaWorld treats their animals. I was simply putting that SeaWorld has, since that year Blackfish was released, waited to release names of performers to prevent them from being harassed and possibly pulling out by a few people signing online petitions. And Willy Nelson pulled out because his grand daughter begged him to after watching Blackfish. Less than a month later; he was preforming at a Rodeo where animals aren't exactly treated the best; and he had no issues with that. He had also preformed at "Bands, Brew, and BBQ" or "Bud and BBQ" at SeaWorld several other times. It was all to do with Blackfish and nothing to do with his unwillingness to be associated with their business model; as he had done so for many years prior.

And since the year Blackfish came out; SeaWorld has only been releasing the names of the preforming artists on a week by week basis.

This year will have different foods also. Previously outside BBQ vendors have had stands set up along Bayside Pathway. This year SeaWorld is making all the food, with more different options than before.

I am not sure getting rid f the outside vendors is a good thing. Personally, I was disappointed last time we were there and had the brisket at Voyagers. There was no choice of BBQ sauce just only the cheapy little packaged stuff instead of coices odf sweet, spicy, etc. Pay more and got less was what we thought as we ate. The meat was good but lack of good BBQ sauce did seem strange for them. I was hoping they would have 4 Rivers BBQ as one of the choices this year.

RabFlmom - did you get entrees or did you get a package deal? I was not able to make it but I thought the sampler package seemed like a good deal - 5 food samples for $20. But I wonder how big the sample actually is and if it is a good deal.

We just got the brisket platters. The price seemed higher than last time. Thinking it was $13.99 for the fries, roll, and meat. They did give us quite a bit of meat and it was good only it was not as warm as it should be, I think because the lines are so slow at Voyagers.

Well, so far I may change my mind. I got the southwest burger on Sat, and it was pretty good (but pretty messy!). I think the sampler sounds like a good deal, so I may try that this Sat

Was considering activating that AP burning hole in my pocket to see Foreigner but realized it a different line up than I had expected. May still head on over.

For those that have gone in the past, generally how early would one need to be there to grab a non-reserved seat?

How crowded does this usually get and how early do you need to be there to get a seat? Thanks. :cutie:

If you get there early you'll get a good seat, like 60-75 minutes before at least, the later you get the more up or to the sides you get.Yes!! I'm there again next weekend for a race and I'll see the Steve Miller band on Saturday and will be going on Sunday to Busch Gardens for the Huey Lewis concert at the Food and Wine festival.I saw the Steve Miller band at the Busch Food and Wine so I know they're good, never seen Huey Lewis but being a Back to the Future nerd its a must to go check them out.If I'm not tired from my race on Saturday morning I may try to make it to Universal Mardi Gras for Kool and the Gang!!
