Touring Plans with DAS

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

First, I would like to start with a confession. I am an obsessive planner. For me it isn't about the actual plan as it is about the chance to enjoy thinking about upcoming vacations. I love the chance to make lists, spreadsheets, reminders, and maps.

As I was looking through the Touring Plans website and trying out the customizable plans, I realized that these don't really work for those of us who will be using a DAS for our visit.

Does anyone really try to use a TP plan for their trip when they have a DAS, or does the fact that the DAS offers a unique situation make customized touring plans becomes impossible or impractical?

Thoughts?

I had to do my 60day fast passes last night. I hadn't put too much thought into the DAS until I was setting them up. In the end I did switch some of my choices because I realized I should leave some time between for rides that we will use the DAS for. I also made sure that the rides that my dd will use the DAS for are different than what some of the fp choices would be. We are going at a time of year that I don't think it will matter as much but as I was looking through different touring plans I did have to think a bit differently. I have loved the planning part too! :surfweb: but I have to admit last night was stressful until I got it all sorted :woohoo:!

I consider DAS separate from my Touring Plans and FPP choices, I think it is unique and it provides the means of waiting outside of a standby line. If my plan takes us somewhere with a longer wait, we will get a DAS or use it to ride a couple of times in a row in combination with a FPP. Every DAS holder has their own needs, it is whatever works.

yes I think of the DAS as some thing totally different there are times where I need to loop a ride there are times where I am not sure I will need it but have it just in case and there are times I know I need it

if doing the TP I would just follow one of there and where there is a long line use your DAS and use that time to take a break some where

What is "looping"?

going on the same ride more then one time in a row

OK, thanks.

Sorry to be dense. I'm new to this board, just doing some research for a friend with a daughter post hip replacement. But why would an adult "need" to do that?

because I have a disability and because of it I have to do things a few times it is kind of like people with OCD needing to do things

what kind of things are you looking for your friend

OK, thanks for explaining.

I'm just in the preliminary stages of helping my daughter's friend. She will likely have mobility issues. She just had a hip replacement and doesn't know yet what her specific needs will be, so I'm just trying to learn as much as I can for them.

ok
yes it sounds like it is just mobility unless she has some other disability how old is she I am guessing she will need a wheel chair or if she is older an ECV ( I think some might rent from of site if you are 16 or older but not sure )

I am much like you. I planned and planned some more. Created cheat sheets for each day that had which ride and when. Pretty sure I threw them out by the second day, lol.

Having DAS makes a touring plan less necessary, and just harder to do. Make your fast passes and ADRs, and that's about it.

Granted, I don't know why you require a DAS but for us we had one child with ASD and one with SPD. I found the touring plan a waste because:

- A ride we wanted was down for repair
- rides we planned, one didn't want to do
- Rides took longer than planned
- The kids saw things not on the plan that they wanted to do

Etc etc etc

So for us, it was really about exploring each land and following the children's leads. We used our FP on the things we knew would have the longest waits, and used DAS for the rest. Thanks to DAS even though we went in summer with 8/9 crowd levels we never waited more than 10-15 minutes in line.

We have a DS with ASD as well. I think this is what I am going to do. We have a list of everything we want to hit, and thoughtfully planned FP+ and a couple ADRs, and beyond that we are just going to (gasp!) wing it!

Is 16 the cutoff for it? She's 15 now but might turn 16 before their trip, depending on their final dates.

Yes, there's just so many variables that you cannot plan on. We tried to go by land, so as to minimize the amount of walking we were doing as well (specifically at MK): Our first day we focused on just Frontier/Adventureland. Our second day we focused on Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. Our third day we focused more on doing character M&Gs, and then things we missed the first two days.

WDW and most off-site ECV vendors will only rent for use by someone 18 or older. There is one vendor who *may* agree to rent an ECV for use by an older teen IF that teen uses one at home regularly. You can certainly ask but if your family member doesn't use one at home, they are unlikely to rent to her. That would leave a wheelchair as probably your best option.
Enjoy your vacation!

That's what I thought. Thanks.
