Grand Floridian Theme Park View -- Conch Key or Sago Cay?

We're staying at the Grand Floridian in an Outer Building - Theme Park View Room in the first week of December. It's our first trip so we're anxiously trying to tie up loose ends on MDE -- including taking care of online check-in. What suggestions do people have on what "Room Requests" to make to get the best view of Cinderella's Castle?

I've done a fair amount of research and it seems the usual advice is to request an Upper Floor room, but opinions seem mixed between requesting Sago Cay and Conch Key Buildings (and what about Boca Chica?).

Conch Key seems to have more of a direct view of the Castle, but some of its rooms are blocked by trees; whereas Sago Cay is a bit left of the Castle and does not have any trees obstructing its view. What are people's experiences and thoughts about the views from these two buildings? From what I've seen, I love the unobstructed views from Conch Key but worry about the trees. I guess my heart is telling me Conch Key but my head is saying Sago Cay. Is there anything else about these two buildings that might help tip the scales?

Online check-in only lets me make 2 requests at the moment, so it's Upper Floor and either Conch Key or Sago Cay. I know we can also call/fax in more specific room requests 4-5 days before arrival. I'd welcome your sage advice!

I'm new to Disboards, and have the exact same question. My family will be there at the end of January2016. I loved to hear your choice, and how it turned out for you.

We ended up requesting an Upper Floor in Sago Cay. We'll be there in 6 days, so I'll let you know how it turns out!

Upper or top floor Conch key

Ask for an unobstructed view on the more detailed requests

Although we've stayed in both buildings and actually prefer the location of Sago. Conch Key was kind of a walk from everything, although to be fair I was 7 months pregnant when we went! If I'd been in regular shape I doubt it would've bothered me!

Yes- conch key is further up- it's the closest building to magic kingdom and the theme park view rooms are dead on and close. Sago is set slightly further back. If you look at the resort section of the touring plans website, they have a map. May help you visualize building placement.

Thanks for sharing feedback!

Sago is close to the Main Building and the Bus Stop, which should work well into our touring plans; and it doesn't look like there are any trees between it and the Magic Kingdom, so we won't worry about getting a bad view. We really considered Conch Key for the closer, more direct view. We looked at the room finder and views on touringplans, and even satellite maps on Google Earth. While the direct views look wonderful, it seems like there are only three rooms (on each floor) in the middle that aren't obstructed by the trees on both sides of the building. We didn't want to get attached to getting one of just six rooms in Conch. I'll add that it seems like the upper floors at Conch would be the 3rd or 4th Floors, as the 5th Floor map doesn't show any theme park facing rooms. It's the same with Sago, but I've read that the 4th Floor rooms there are Dormer rooms.

Anyway, we'll be on site next week and I'll report back our experience!

We actually prefer Sago. Conch just technically has a closer view of the castle. There's more than 1 room with great views in that building, but Sago is an excellent choice. You'll really enjoy being that much closer to GG, main building, bus stop etc. We'll go back to Sago next trip!
