We spent a wonderful week at BWV and just arrived home this Saturday (10/24)As we were waiting for the Magical Express in the lobby, we heard an announcement and a family was chosen as "Family of the day" for Boardwalk.

Could not hear the details! They were very excited..it was a nice surprise to see. Does this happen often and what are the special privileges?

congrats if this family is here on The Dis!

No actually I don't but I will go and look it up. Thanks for the info!

We were family of the day at SSR when they screwed up our room check in and made us wait until 7:30. We got buttons and balloons, that's it.

Actually they kept telling us that they were cleaning the room, around 6:30 they sent a runner to the room to verify status and they told us it was ready. We went to the room, (grandstand) and it had never been cleaned. We went back to the front desk and they told us that we were wrong and that the room was cleaned. We went back to the room with a manager and to his surprise the room had not been touched, he radioed for the "special cleaning crew" and we went back to the carriage house. When the room was ready, they gave us our family of the day buttons and balloons.

Ah, yes-tell the guest they're wrong. Such less-than wonderful customer service! Especially over something like the room cleanliness. Even if the room had been supposedly cleaned, the fact that you went back to the front desk and said it was't says there's a housekeeping problem. How awful of them!

Wow that's a bad story... I learned in my case that cleaning had not called in the room clean and by the time they tried to follow up the crews and supervisors had gone home... so it took even longer to get one of the few remaining people to go to the room and see if it was clean. We finally got in close to 7pm when the room had been clean at 4:30 or 5:00. We did not, however, receive buttons and balloons, which would have made the whole thing much more bearable.

heh heh.

We were family of the day at the Yacht Club a few years back. The person checking us in kept weirdly stalling and going into the back room and finally some other CMs came out with confetti, balloons and a certificate naming us family of the day. Then one of the CMs took us up to our room and we had been upgraded to the Commodore Suite from a regular room. It was amazing.

Thanks for all the comments. I hope that family had a wonderful vacation!

The only time I got balloons and confetti is when my wife had a very public melt down in the lobby, after a 3 day weather delay (all of the east coast was under 24" of snow), a multi-hour delay at the airport, and then arriving at the hotel (on my wife's birthday) to find out that they had "downgraded" us to a lesser room because the hotel was still full of guests who couldn't fly out because their airlines had moved their planes to the mid-west to keep them out of the storm and were still trying to re-position them to re-establish their normal flight schedules. A 50 year old woman crying in the lobby in front of the check in desk doesn't exactly fit the Disney experience. The manager of the resort came out, took us aside, gave us the lesser room for free, got us drinks from the bar, and promised to move us to a much better room the next day. The next day, we were told the new room number when we returned from the park. Inside the room, which was MUCH MUCH better than what we had booked, was our luggage, and a huge gift tray with candy, cookies, and balloons, surrounded by confetti.

Sometimes, a very public display of emotion is all you need to make things happen...

We were family of the day at CR a couple of weeks ago. Our Magic Bands didn't work on our room doors and dining plans were not loaded on there either. Not sure if that had something to do with it but I was pretty tired and haggard looking explaining all this to a CM and she kept going in the back office. I was about to climb over the counter and do something very unladylike the second time she disappeared on me. Then some publishers clearinghouse looking types surrounded me with balloons and toys for DD saying we were family of the day. Other than the balloons and toys we got 3 fast passes for anything we wanted. Pretty cool. No room upgrade but the FP's were nice.
