Baby wearing and rides

in the past I've never been told I have to take the baby out of the carrier and sit them next to me on rides, except once on triceratops spin...but o read in a trip report where she had to take her baby out of the ergo to ride anything with a lap bar. Have things changed or was this an isolated experience?

Not a baby wearer but the last time I was there on Winnie the Pooh they did make people turn their babies around to face out and if they were old enough to support themselves they had to sit on the bench.

So if you are wearing a facing out carrier, you can keep it on?

Seems silly to have an eight month old baby sit by themselves on the bench where every turn will jerk them around, when sitting on a parents lap would be much more secure. :headache:

I just want to be prepared, so we don't have to take the time to get the baby out at the last minute.

The issue with the lap bar is that it can accidently crush a child if the child is on your lap - a sudden stop or jerk forward and your entire weight is pushing that baby into the unyielding bar.

I guess....but we're talking about Winnie the Pooh, Buzz, Peter Pan....they aren't exactly fast rides where that could actually happen, and a younger baby that would be more prone to being thrown around while sitting on the bench, would actually be above the lap bar if being worn properly.

This is new since we last went to Disney and makes me wonder if they will eventually not allow babies on rides at all unless they are old enough to sit on their own.

You might have to email guest relations on this one. Of course rules can always change but they can give you the on the record answer of wearing a baby and at what point can a child not be a lap child any more. I do know that at minimum they have to be facing out as that was even the rule when I was a CM a few years ago.

I've taken our kids to Disney a lot this year, and wore my youngest on every trip. I haven't been asked once to take him out (I use a Tula) once.
There are a few rides that the lap bar comes down on baby and it's a necessity to take him out. Haunted Mansion is the only one that is coming to mind at the moment. :)

Four visits in the past five years to WDW, each time babywearing, and I've never been asked to take a baby out or turn a baby around.

I just got back a few weeks ago, wore my 6mo most of the time, and was never asked to take her out of the Ergo. The only time I was asked to have her face forward was when she was out of the carrier and I was maneuvering to nurse her on the ride.

In November 2013, I wore my 7.5 month old in a Boba (no forward facing option) on many rides (four I remember are Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo, the Mexico boat ride and Living with the Land). The only ride I remember where the baby had to be removed was the carrousel (the baby had to wear the seatbelt). We didn't ride the Haunted Mansion because it scared my (then) 2.5 year old.

What if your baby had been 2 months old? LOL this is ridiculous. I have worn my baby on the carousel while helping my toddler sit on the horse before...

This was our experience at DL. Even on a single attraction, different CMs made different rules.

Yep, most of the time the CMs have no issue with baby wearing on the non-thrill rides, but occasionally a CM will very strongly insist that you cannot do it. My wife ignored them on Haunted Mansion and just hopped in the buggy (our youngest was napping while she was wearing him), and the CM didn't do anything except sigh deeply. Not the ideal approach, but if your baby is asleep and your older child is excited to ride with mommy, it might be the best thing to do.

Just got back from Disney and wore my 14mo facing in on haunted mansion with no issue (she fell asleep on the ride). I wore her on lots of rides when she was 6 months too. But also had to take her out on the carousel which doesn't make sense.

We've been babywearing at the World for the past 3 years with 6 month old to 22 month old, never been asked to remove or turn the baby/kid. I may have if they were awake so they could see but sometimes I just sat side ways so the bar didn't push on us and I didn't have to take them out to see.

Our 10-month old napped on HM facing inwards in the carrier. We rode Pooh, Peter Pan, all of that, and never were asked to remove him, or change his orientation in the carrier.

I heard a CM telling a baby wearing mom during our last trip that as long as the restraints were doing their job (and were able too be closed enough to keep everyone safe) baby could stay where they were. So I'm sure there will be a lot of different answers since not all women and not all babies are the same!
