I Wish Disney Brings Back Hand Drawn Animation

Hi,
Ever since I heard Disney gutted hand drawn animation with lay offs couple years ago, I was very upset. I want to see Disney do another hand drawn animated feature, but sadly, Disney is too scared to do it. I don't necessary hate CGI, I like Tangled, Wreck It Ralph, and Frozen and Big Hero 6 and I can't wait for Zootopia and Moana, but I was getting use to growing up seeing hand drawn animated movies. And honestly, I don't think Bob Iger and the executives are being fair to hand drawn animation. I know they've been using them as experiments for shorts like Paperman, but it would be nicer if Disney just give hand drawn animation another chance. DVDizzy that I formerly go there keep saying Bob Iger and John Lasseter are lying to do another hand drawn animated feature, and they made that horrible thread called Hand Drawn Dead at Disney. I wish Disney just make another 2d traditional animated movie.

Of course, the former Disney animators are making a hand drawn animated movie called Hullabaloo which I hope Disney will change their mind about hand drawn animation not making profits.

P.S. Again, I am not against CGI movies and despite of obsession doing another 2d film, I still enjoy Disney's CGI films. I'm not like that user who despise 3D Cgi all the time.8-)

I love the new computer animation and the beauty and art that can be created using the format, but I also love the original hand drawn animation. We will never see Disney use hand drawn animation for an entire major movie again simply because it is so terribly expensive, labor intensive, and difficult. Hand drawn work will be incorporated into some computer animated movies. Other studios and some independent projects will use hand drawn work, too, but not any major studios. It is sad but everything changes. And look at the beauty and detail that can be done by the computer artists in works like Frozen and Big Hero 6!

I couldn't agree more. Sure, they can do wonderful things with computer graphics, but there's something about traditional animation that just brings me back to a simpler time.

Hand drawn animation is so pretty. It would be nice if they did another hand drawn animation film like they did with Princess and the Frog!

I think both styles have their merits, but it is sad to see animation shifting exclusively to the 3D computer generated style. At least hand-drawn 2-D animation is still big on television.

I'm with you on all fronts. I'd love to see both types of animation released on a regular basis because they are two different art forms and can be appreciated side by side.

Sadly, the last few hand drawn movies didn't do super well, but that's because they weren't that good, not because of their format.

Well if you ignore Iger (which most people do since really Disney Animation is now fairly autonomous on what they want to do as far as new projects *sequels are a different matter*) around the time that Big Hero 6 came out, producer Don Conli stated that he would be open to doing a traditional 2D movie IF a director came to him with the right pitch for it. So it certainly sounds like there is some hope, but they are not going to do a 2D movie just for the sake of it.

I completely agree! :)

As, I think it was BrianL said, I don't mind 3d computer generated styles of animation but for it to be the *only* option is upsetting. Could be the nostalgia talking ('90s kid here), but I really love the hand-drawn 2D style. I think it's why my interest was quite intensely piqued when I came across "Hullabaloo." It's a 2D animated film being created and produced by 2D animators who used to work for Disney. It's suppose to be about a girl, a scientist, who goes on adventures with her friends to find her dad who has been kidnapped by villains who want to use his inventions for evil. :P

And I really love that style of animation from the video you posted! It's lovely. Thanks for sharing it! Disney should most definitely give that a try!

Indeed! They must! Yes, I'm a 90's guy, but, as i said before, I don't hate cgi and I enjoy Disney CGI films. I just think Disney should do both mediums. That's all.

To be honest, I believe that the process of traditional animation (for future Disney animated projects) is going to be completely digitized.

I love both kinds of animation but I am real. They aren't going to bring it back because it is cheaper and quicker to do computer animation.
