Please help a Disneyland newbie

My family and I are WDW vets. We'll be taking a 10 trip to California and will spend 2 days and 2 nights at the Disneyland Resort staying at the Grand Californian. We're very excited! My question is about World of Color in DCA. Does it have fast passes for the show? If so, and if I get fast passes for the show, does that take me out of getting fast passes for the rest of the day? Also, if I don't get fast passes, is it worth it to get preferred seating (standing) through a dinner package? What is it like if you just show up at show time? Is it a large viewing area? Thanks!!

There's a very informative thread here, all about WOC:

Think of the FP as more of an admission ticket. You can't get into the viewing area without one. (You can watch from outside the area, but the views aren't as good.)

And no, it does not affect your ability to get other FPs during the day.

Thank you! I'm thinking we should get the fast pass as soon as possible once we get into the park at opening? I'm sure they go quickly? Can you also tell me where the World of Colour fast passes are located? Thank you!

There is a Terrace on the 6th floor of the GCH overlooking DCA. You can see WOC from there but the view is far away and off at an angle. Check out the Terrace during the day before committing a WOC viewing from there. Down at Paradise Pier ,Unless you get there early to stake out a spot at the Pier close to the water or a railing ,you will probably have people standing in front of you blocking your view. You may want to consider heading for the Bridge and staking out a spot on the railing there.I did that one time with the GrandKids. We all got to sit down along the bridge railing with an unobstructed view of the show. The view is at an angle so you don`t get a good view of some of the mist screens, but you do get to see everything else. Bring a blanket to sit on while you are waiting and to cuddle with when it gets cold.

WOC FPs are distributed to the left of the Grizzly River Rapids ride entrance. When you enter DCA from the GCH turnstile , the FP machines are right there.

They are not linked to any other FPs

The informative thread posted by PrincessShmoo says it all. I remember when they were building it they claimed room for 9000 people, but after it was finished they positioned CMs around in the area to estimate capacity , and they found out they miscalculated and that capacity was around 4000. Like anything else, the earlier you get there ,the better chance of a better view. People start queuing up an hour before show time. Once in , you can have your group hold your spot and you can ask a CM if you have to leave to use the rest room and they will give you back the appropriate colored FP so you can get back in.

Here`s a link showing the view from the Bridge.

What!s fun about being close to the water on the Pier is feeling the heat when they do the flames.

Even with the WOC FPs you'll need to arrive 90 minutes early if you want a good view. If you can swing it, I would suggest getting a dining package. We did the CC lunch package. Our FP zone was empty 60-45 minutes before. We had a perfect view!

If you are tall, then you won't need to arrive quite as early for a good viewing spot. +1 on reading through the first post of the WOC Superthread and maybe the last few pages for any recent updates.

No, no and GRR.

The link to the WOC Superthread given earlier is the place to go for answers to these questions. See my signature line for another link.
