Strollers on busses and monorails.

I heard a rumor that Disney Shuttles will start insisting that ALL strollers be folded and placed out of the aisle. I have a really big one for three kids and all my gear. How inconvenient. Is this rumor true?
Furthermore I heard that there is a plan afoot to not allow any strollers on the monorail. Again has anyone heard this?

From what I understand, its a FDOT requirement to have strollers folded before the bus can be moved. Haven't heard anything about prohibiting strollers on the monorail and not sure how this could be implemented since guests staying at the Contemporary, Poly or GF rely on the local monorail to get to the MK or the TTC.

I wish they would ban the strollers off the monorail people jam them into it leaving people with no room to stand they need to require people to a least fold them I have had my foot run over and been pinned against the doors because someone try's to bring their two and three child strollers into it and there is not room for anything else .

On my past visits, I have heard bus drivers telling passengers with strollers that they must be folded up before they can be brought on board the bus. As far as the monorail, I have not heard any one being told to fold up strollers before boarding. I wish they would ask passengers to do this because on my last trip I had a large party trying to get to the TTC on the resort monorail that boarded with five strollers. Only one of the strollers was folded up and the others were crammed onto the car with the rest of their party. We were staying at Bay Lake and I had to climb over two strollers to exit the car banging my knee on the door.

At this time, you are allowed to enter both the monorail and the ferry without folding or removing your child from the stroller. Strollers must be folded before getting on the bus as it the law in FL from what I have been told.

I wish that strollers had to be folded for all transportation. Some strollers are large and take up a lot of space on the monorail. There would be more room for passengers if the strollers had to be folded up.

Strollers have to be folded for all buses and some of the boats. They would never ban strollers from the monorails, as that is a huge selling point of staying at a monorail resort. I have heard them when it is exceedingly busy (think July 4) tell guests to fold up their strollers before boarding the monorail. But at that point there was no way to board with one open. There wasn't room.

We have specifically stayed at a monorail resort due to the ease of taking a stroller on the monorail or the ferry. This allows us to stay for fireworks and not have to wake a sleeping child if they fall asleep on the way back to the hotel. I think this is a big draw for those with small children to stay at one of the monorail resorts.

I understand a parents need to not want to wake a sleeping child but the problem with strollers is they have become larger and when you have a stroller large enough for two children it makes no room for anything else and if you are already on the monorail and someone jams into it with huge stroller people get their feet run over, they get banned into and have bruises left on them from being banned into to with strollers ,and if a person wants to get out they can't move safety to do so without tripping over a stroller .I understand the smaller strollers but they need to make people with large ones fold them they just take up to much room in a small space .I was trying to get off one day and someone bumped into the back of my leg with one and I tripped an fell .The person made no apologize just kept going .

It sounds like some of the strollers could really be a safety issue in an emergency. What if they have to evacuate the monorail due to failure or weather? Granted, this doesn't happen frequently, but it has happened within the last few years.

Would love to be able to put strollers in a compartment under the bus rather than stand on a the bus holding a stroller and a child. We rarely use the monorail since we stay at AKL but when we do it sure is nice to not have to hold a stroller and child. It also keeps the grandchildren in a seat and not standing on a moving monorail. One problem with folding strollers is not many will give up a seat for a parent with a stroller or child. It would be dangerous if we had to hold the stroller and have a small child standing. I have seen way to many load up on a Monorail car that already was full with strollers. Disney could limit how many are on each monorail so others can get off it also maybe one stroller per car or only allow part of the cars for strollers.

If we stayed at Bay Lake we would just walk to MK with our stroller, much faster. The EPcot hotels allow you to walk to both Hollywood Studios and Epcot in about 10 to 20 minutes. I think the next trip we will do a split stay at a MK resort, Epcot resort and then to AKL for Animal Kingdom. The switching of hotels might be worth not having to take a stroller on a bus.

Its not necessarily the strollers that is the problem but the people that think they can crowd into the car that is already full. If they stop allowing strollers to be open then they should insist that parents with strollers and small children get the seats.

So pregnant ladies, the elderly, the handicapped ( both visible and hidden) should give up their seats for kids? Not going to happen. I doubt that could be legally enforced in the first place.

Moot at this point, anyway. Current policy is that strollers must be folded on all buses and some boats. They are allowed on the monorail and do not (usually) need to be folded. I would like to see Disney limit the size of strollers allowed on Disney transportation. They already limit the allowable size for wheelchairs and ecvs.

People complaining about strollers must not have any kids because complaining about people walking around with them is annoying them is too funny.

Disney is for kids, god forbid we make it easier for kids to go to disney without inconveniencing you.

I get the bus thing but monorail and ferry forget it.

While I understand your sentiment and concern, it's also very selfish as well. It's like saying lets ban all the ECV because some people are ignorant about how to use them safely and smartly. The problem is on both sides. Those with the strollers and those without them. While not true of everyone, many are just not considerate of the others situation. While I don't have a need for a stroller anymore, it's nice to NOT have to collapse it and take everything out and hold it (and the kid). This can be doubly so if one happens to be a single parent. As one that no longer has a stroller, I don't necessarily appreciate being JAMMED into a seat/bus/monorail/etc to accommodate just ONE more stroller. However, if those with strollers are considerate of those without and vice verse, I am sure it could all work out. Sadly, everyone is in a rush to get to or from the park and are concerned with only their wants/needs. To quote an old phrase "Can't we all just get along?"

The problem with a limit like this. What if I have 2 kids and 2 strollers? Wife with one, me with the other? So now we have to separate? Probably happens more often then not. Also where do you draw the limit on the stroller? A single? A double? A triple? Again, I agree that if they CAN be collapsed (conveniently) then they should. Personally, when we had ours, I preferred to collapse it because it was easier for all involved, but for us it was ONE stroller with the DW and my self (2 DD's but only one in the stroller). It might be nicer to have a "Stroller" Car on the monorail. That could certainly ease the issues.

Its not necessarily the strollers that is the problem but the people that think they can crowd into the car that is already full.
Amen to this. As I said above, everyone (okay, not everyone) is in a rush to get to THEIR destination and are not at all concerned about anyone else (again, not true about everyone, but many).

. No, not legally enforced, but what I think the PP was talking about is that if you see a "Weary" worn out parent with a collapsed stroller trying to hold onto it and the kid, that doesn't leave them a hand to hold onto the bar. These busses/monorails/etc have a quick take off and slow down and can certainly make those standing prone to falling. So common courtesy is for your teenage son/daughter (or otherwise healthy and unencumbered person) to offer their seat to someone who clearly could use it. If you cannot see that someone with small children and a stroller collapsed or otherwise not to mention possible souvenir (and bags) could use a seat then there are bigger issues. I just think it's more courtesy. That is just something we can all use more of (my self included)

I wish that strollers were required to be tandem, not abreast. Tandem strollers (one kid behind instead of beside the other) take up no more room on pathways than walking persons. Two (and now three) wide strollers cause huge traffic jams when the parks get crowded.

For the record, both my wife (who has taken her children from a previous marriage to WDW perhaps 25 times) and I have both recently been run over by strollers with no effort at apology by the parents pushing them (I won't even begin to talk about how many ecv's have run over us). It's painful and has drawn blood in both of our cases. It's really getting old. So old that, even as the least litigious person I know, I'm thinking about contacting a lawyer the next time it happens.

The complaint isn't against "everyone with strollers". Rather, the complaint is against people with large strollers and little respect for those around them.

Having a massive stroller doesn't entitle you to 1/2 of a monorail car, nor should it allow you to inhibit the flow of traffic onto or off of a vehicle, be it a boat, bus or monorail. A little bit of courtesy and respect can go quite a long way...

Disney could move a whole lot more people quickly if it weren't for the large, unfolded strollers. I would suggest banning unfolded strollers from the non-resort monorail as parents can use the ferry instead. For monorail guests, how about having a couple of cars dedicated to people with unfolded strollers, again so more people can be moved quickly? Parents would then have the choice of folding their stroller or waiting for room on the "unfolded stroller" car.
