October 2015 PTR: a “Halloweenie” and her Fearless Companion conquer their first HHN!

The trip was fantastic and was over much too quickly. I have started the trip report - the link is in my signature if anyone wants to see photos. I'm on our first day at Universal at the moment.

I will pretty much go on anything but funnily enough both times I rode Forbidden Journey I felt nauseous just as it took a dip at the quidditch part. So if anyone is doing that you may want to close your eyes at the bit where they say "let's go".

I have joined in on your TR :thumbsup2 . Looking forward to the next update!!

Ugh, I can't even imagine the Quidditch part of FJ! Watching them play the game on the movie makes me a little green  . LOL, I would make a terrible Hogwarts student! :rotfl:

That's great you've joined our trip report. I think you'd be a great Hogwart's student, just skip the quidditch and head to Hogsmeade for some Butterbeer!

Big news this morning...........we're going to MNSSHP!!!!! :jumping1:

Tickets are bought (for Friday, October 16th....our last night before we fly home, to end our vacation on a really high note!), and Steve-o is even super excited about dressing up . I think we've decided on going as pirates: it seems to work well for a couples costume.

We haven't been to MK since 2009. I always said I wanted to try out a Disney party if we ever managed to travel at the right time, so this is a huge yay for me!! I have so much to learn between now and then!!! :surfweb:

Wahoo, while I'll be home before the party starts that day, I can give you a quick run down that morning, as I'll be doing it the night before. Went last year with my kids and had a blast. Kids also tricked and treated, so you would not believe how much candy we had to lug home. My kids haven't trick or treated at home for several years now, so I was kinda shocked, but I also partook when the candy was some I loved. We all still talk about the parade, it was great, and the fireworks was some of the best I have seen. So in the mood.

Pirates are a great costume idea. Easy, and if it's hot, can be a cooler costume. I saw from no costume at all, or with just T shirts (which were us), to some really creative and cute and funny costumes. Adults most of the time had the best ones I saw. Though I have to say, some of the little kids were so cute!

We entered the party at 4pm, and had an early dinner at the Plaza. It was good food, cute place, and we bought the mini mickey sink for desset, that after eating the ice cream, took it home and is a candy holder. Was really cute. I also could not pass up the mickey Halloween popcorn holder. Still have it sitting on my shelf at home. Still like it. Also bought the pins that were for the party and kids both got the party T shirts. Lets just say, Mickey got more of our money that day than some other days in the park.

Oh, and we used our fast passes right before eating at the plaza and squeezed 2 more in before the party. I wonder how much more crowded it will be this time, as last time, we went on Labor Day, and only 12,00 people showed up. It was pleasant, as not very crowded. We saw the second parade near Sleepy Hallow, and was pixie dusted, as got to sit in reserved benches at the last minute, as the CM said the reservations never showed up, so us and another family were the only 2 in the benches. Gots lots of attention from the parade, that both my kids enjoyed. Since DD was wearing her Maleficent mickey headband, when Maleficent saw her, spoke and pointed to her for several minutes. It was her pixie dust moment. The headless horseman was awesome to see, and well, I won't say more about the parade.

Just, Wahoo!!!!:rainbow:

And I like that the tickets are bought! No changing your mind now! :)

Wow.....that kind of a write-up gets me very, very excited! :hyper: We are super pumped to take in the rides, the parade, and the fireworks in particular.....everything else is going to be a happy bonus :thumbsup2 .

I was a bit hesitant to book the Friday night (since its forecasted to be a busier party than the other nights we had to pick from), but it just worked best with our other existing plans. We didn't want to do HHN and MNSSHP back to back (because we expect late nights for both of them), so that put out the Thursday night. We had "scheduled" in a resort/down day for the Friday anyway, so we thought it would be great to sleep in, maybe even catch an early afternoon siesta, then change into our costumes and plan to arrive at MK by 4 pm. Hopefully we can snag 3 FP+ selections for the 4-7 time frame.....I will have to mark my calendar for the 30-day mark. It would be great to get 7 Dwarfs Mine Train but I'm not holding my breath.

Steve and I did a little costume shopping this afternoon, and got some really good ideas from Party City (including a couple of non-pirate options, in the event that we change our minds). I am blown away by how enthusiastic he is about dressing up.......sometimes, that big guy surprises the heck out of me.

YAY!!!!! And your last night, perfect way to end the trip.

Funnily enough, I didn't even have any convincing to do.....we sat down to chat earlier this morning, I raised the idea of giving MSNNHP a try, and was ready and armed with all my "reasons" .... but his immediate response was Absolutely! You could have knocked me over with a feather. Steve's not a big Disney guy (he abhors the micro-managing that's involved in a Disney vacation), but apparently he's quite willing to give a party a whirl (less people + no Fastpasses during the party = right up his alley). He's also very happy with the notion that he can finally ride Splash Mountain....something he has wanted to do since our first visit in 2009 (when it was closed for refurbishment).

I'm even more excited to go when I didn't have to "talk him into it". Gosh, I love that guy!

Fun!!

I think the parties are a great way to spend one day (well night!) at MK. And you get three FPs from 4-7 pm as well right?

Yay! You're going to MNSSHP! :woohoo:That's great that Steve said yes with no hesitation! :thumbsup2 We've been to the Christmas party a couple of times, but we've never gone to the Halloween party. I look forward to reading about it in your trip report. :goodvibes

I've never been much of a Halloween lover, to be honest....but these October plans in Orlando are really starting to get me excited :) . I haven't dressed up for Halloween since I was....oh.....maybe 10? 12? It was never a big thing in my house growing up, so we stopped going door to door when we were pretty young. I feel like I'm 5 years old again, with all this costume planning :teeth: .

Fun!!

That's the plan :thumbsup2 . Not sure how successful we will be at getting any FP's of value, staying offsite and only getting to pick at 30 days out, but we'll grab what we can and consider those a happy bonus :goodvibes .

I've heard such good things about MNSSHP. There are some great trip reports on the DIS for Hallowe'en. Like you I'm not that big a Hallowe'en fan but I do think Mickey's Boo-to-You Halloween Parade and HalloWishes look amazing. Good for you adding this on - I mean you need something new to keep your readers entertained ;) We're all behind you!

Oh how exciting!! Great way to end your vacation. MNSSHP looks like So... Much fun. Both of you are going to have a blast at the party trick-or-treating. Going as pirates is a great choice, we attended a Disney Pirate party ( When they had them) and had a great time.
Don't forget to see the parade, from what I have seen online it looks like a " Not to miss attraction."

Hey Gina! Have you all done The Escape Game? We did the one in Pigeon Forge last week--twice! It was a blast! There is one in Orlando too, and I'm sure we'll do it again. You might want to wait for your next trip with your son and his girlfriend. It's a great family activity!

We've done something similar in Wisconsin Dells (an attraction called Wizard Quest), and it was a ton of fun.....the Escape Games in Orlando definitely have their appeal. It definitely won't fit into the plans for October (especially now that MNSSHP has been added to the itinerary) and probably not December, either :headache: . Might have to look towards April for that experience and just hope they can pair us up with another fun couple or two!

Pirates costumes aren't quite set in stone just yet......I didn't realize how hard it would be to find a cool costume that would be literally a cool costume. It could be mighty hot out there in mid October :sunny: and we don't want to die of heat stroke. So, pirates are a maybe (assuming we can find something short sleeved, short panted, no leather vests) but not for sure. I have found a super awesome, light and airy Cleopatra costume that I LOVED (and hey, I've got the hair for Miss Cleo, too! :thumbsup2) but I'm not sure Steve is too keen on being King Tut or Augustus Ceasar  .

Have you looked at Disney bounding for costumes? There are lots of ideas on Pintrest. Here is an example but on Pintrest search Disney bounding summer.. I added couples to the search and a few real cute ones showed up like this one.

The Disney bounding is a great idea, but definitely not something I could get Steve to do. Whatever costume he ultimately decides on, I can almost guarantee you its going to have a very masculine slant.....Pirate. Superhero. Cave Man  .

I found a simply adorable Minnie Mouse costume today though, that almost makes me want to abandon having matchy couples costumes and just go with something different for each of us. With the way we keep changing our minds, its a darn good thing we have 60+ days to decide!

Happy Saturday everyone :goodvibes . I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful weekend. Its been a few days since I last updated, so while Steve and I are sitting in the rec room watching Pirates of the Caribbean, I thought I'd post a little of what's new.

We've spent the last couple of days devoting some serious time to costume research for MNSSHP. Just by fluke, a brand new costume store opened up right in our neighbourhood just 7 weeks ago, so we popped in to see the owner yesterday afternoon. She had some great stuff in there for Steve's pirate vision, and even better....it was in his size (BIG!) so we got a good start on his costume elements in particular. A couple more stops around town and some research on the internet also yielded some good results, and the balance of the major requirements (Steve's pants, specifically, and my Pirate Maiden dress) are now on order. Steve is absolutely having a ball with this part of the planning, more so than I had ever thought he would  (including speaking in his best pirate accent for most of the weekend :rolleyes2) and has even suggested that maybe we do two parties that week instead of one.

:eek: :earseek::faint:

His rationale? We always take a tidy sum of money with us for souvenirs and shopping, but after so many trips to Orlando.....we very rarely spend much of it. Photos are really the only souvenirs we're keen on getting. So he thinks we should re-allocate $150 of the shopping budget to MNSSHP tickets for a second night, and go for an extra experience versus extra stuff. It's a good theory :scratchin .... so we're still discussing it. I am trying to find reasons to say no, but it is very, very tempting (especially when we have spent a decent amount on the costumes.....seems like a good way to get our money out of them. Then I think, dear God, that rationale sounds a lot like what ArwenMarie coined as "AP math"!! :rotfl:)

After a little digging on another Disney forum, I have managed to find a Memory Maker Share Group for our dates. Whether we do one party or two, we would be able to get all of our Photopass pics....or, at least, I *think* that would be the case .... not having Magic Bands, I'm not sure how that's going to work. Right now, the share group has 5 participants so its going to be about $34 per family. They are hoping for two more to make it 7 families total and bring the cost down to about $25 each. Either way, its a decent deal when one digital download from Disney is $15 plus tax and surely we will get a few good shots over the course of the evening.

In the midst of it all, it seems I have finally caught Jake's germs from a couple of weeks back and I've got one heck of a head cold . I was just thinking that Steve and I were out of the woods and whamo!, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I am drinking lots of OJ and hoping that it passes quickly. Summer colds are really the pits.

Oh yeah, we are officially at the 9 week point! 9 weeks from this very moment, I hope to be enjoying a leisurely soak in one of the hot tubs at the Vistana :cloud9:. But.....here at home, the trees will all have turned colours (and half of them or more already fallen to the ground) and we'll be well on our way to winter. Time is going very quickly. Summer will be over before we know it!!

"AP algebra" or "Disney math" or "vacation calculus" who cares? Go and partay!! (or 2 or 3). If you do decide to get 2 party tickets and get a FP+ for Seven Dwarfs mine train be aware that the only way to get that photo and video is with a magic band (although only one of you needs one to capture the video if you ride together). I hope you get to experience 7DMT at it is my son's (the non thrill seeker-even though he's actually done nearly all the rides at Disney and universal) favorite ride. MB of the regular variety are 12.95 +tax

Ha! AP Math! It's the financially sound thing to do! LOL :)

I love that Steve is getting into the Halloween spirit, complete with a pirate voice!

You know my opinion here on going for the second night of party tix so I won't say it ;)

Experience over stuff is definitely our vacation motto. Not that some stuff isn't fun but agree that experience is the thing.

Feel better.
