they took feb vacation away we only get one day for president's day. I am ok with this since we used a lot of snow days last year

I would love to start after Labor Day!!! It doesn't help that I grew up in an area where schools never started before Labor Day. But unfortunately, our school board wants the high school first semester finished before Winter Break, so we have to start mid-August to get that accomplished.

there are still a bunch of districts around here going back before labor day.

How long ago did they change the calendar? Airfare that week is so expensive whenever we go away we book the air as soon as it goes on sale. I would be really POed if they changed it after I booked a vacation already.

we have never gotten the entire week off for presidents week, that was going to be something new if we went back before labor day

People/patients coming into our tiny little doctors office on their phone?
Why do they do this?
Why don't they stay in their car until their conversation is over?
Why don't they tell the person on the other end that they can't talk because they are at the doctors office?
Why do they feel it's ok for me to wait to show them how to fill out their paperwork?
Why do they feel it's ok to share (by us not having a choice but to hear their phone conversation) with me, the doctor and every other patient their personal business. We don't care where they are going out to eat. We don't care that your friends are arguing. We don't care that your kids are a pain in the butt. We just don't care!!!
Why do they feel it's not awkward for us when they are arguing with the person on the other end?
Yep....they are annoying!!! :headache:

I understand that. But if they changed it months after it originally came out I'm sure many people already booked vacations.

If you have been at a company for several years in a relatively high ranking position (higher than me anyway), you should REALLY know how to do your job. Please don't ask me how to do it. On a completely related note, if someone is leaving the company and has given a very generous 3 week notice, perhaps you should train someone on how to to do this person's job rather than just throw someone new into it.

People who wander through the middle of the aisles at the grocery store, in everyone's way. Then stand in front of the milk, pondering. Please move. Some of us have our crap together and know what we need.

I live in a summer touristy town. Normally I work very hard to be patient with our summer people as I make my living off of them and they are necessary to the economy. However there is one huge issue here. Several years ago a young lady was hit and killed by a car at an intersection. She had headphones in and was texting. It was horribly sad but an accident. In her honor tons of signs went up and they have changed street crossing laws. All over town they have put up crosswalks. Cars are told to yield to pedestrians at the crosswalks. This law sounds like a good idea but has had horrible consequences. Summer tourists do not look at all when they step in to these crosswalks. They see it as pedestrian has right of way and walk. There are always cars parked on the street. If a pedestrian is walking where the car is it adds to the time a car approaching will see them. There is no more look both ways before you cross. People just go and they don't care if you have time to stop. They do that even at non- crosswalk streets now. On top of that cars now think they need to stop no matter what, if there is a pedestrian. So cars stop at traffic lights if the light is green. This means sometimes cars behind them nearly hit the cars or do hit them because they expected them to stop. It also means a car on one side of the intersection might stop, even though they shouldn't and the one going the other way doesn't. Pedestrians walk out and nearly get hit crossing a red light. These people are fools. I will feel terrible if I hit one. Guilty for the rest of my life, likely. But I am a careful driver and if I hit them it will be their fault.

Just saw a news story on a dentist from MN who killed a male lion in Africa after his guides lured it from its game sanctuary. He of course claims ignorance. They skinned it and took its head home as a trophy. Anyone who hunts endangered animals for trophies disgusts me.

Well, if hunters pay to do it legally as part of a culling process, I have no issue with it. But if the story is accurate, he's no hunter, but rather a poacher. The story says he intentionally lured the lion outside its protected area. His FB page has been inundated with nasty messages, as has his dental practice FB page and website. All those accounts have apparently been taken down or closed. Some of his employees are also getting nasty messages.

By fairly new I mean that it's a 2015 model, but was bought from Enterprise Car Sales (which is part of Enterprise Rent-a-Car). So now I have to get back into the work force so that we have another income coming in to help us.

Here's the problem. My field definition has changed since I was in it last. Now, companies have consolidated responsibilities and have merged them with the administrative assistant. For example: contract proposals and a buyer for purchasing have, in some cases, gone under the umbrella of the admin assistant (from what I've recently seen on at least two companies hiring). In the company I worked in for 7 1/2 years, those were two different departments. Companies now are looking for, and in some cases, requiring a BS degree. This is a field that never required a degree before and now all of a sudden does. It's very frustrating. I have over 10 years experience and b/c I don't have a BS degree and the fact that I've been out of the work force for so long, no one wants to even touch me. On top of that, even the temp agencies do not have anything for me either!

Stinks. We actually just hired a new person to do what you describe. We're still a small company (25 people), so there must still be demand for that if a small firm like us can fill that job Keep your head up, something wil turn up!!!
