Maybe because Alexa is the only member of my household who actually does what I tell her, LOL!!

Anybody else here have one of these toys?

Does she speak Spanish? This could be a really good gadget for people with vision problems.

Funny, I was just reading some reviews on Echo before checking in here. Seems like some people are saying to wait for a new version, but most everything can be updated through software updates ...the hardware itself is nothing complicated. I'd like to hear more comments if other Dis'ers have had experience. Thanks for starting the thread!

What are people's favorite features?

What's not so good?

She only speaks English for now.

My favorite features? The Shopping List is one. While I'm tooling around in the kitchen or looking in the refrigerator, I just say, "Alexa, add mustard to the shopping list", and it's there. Then there's an Echo app for iPad and iPhone, and I can pull up my shopping list and check things off anytime, anywhere. No more forgetting the list at home or forgetting to add something because I was in the middle of cooking and couldn't stop to write it down. Setting a timer is just as easy: "Alexa, set a timer for 6 minutes" or "Alexa, set an alarm for 6:45 pm".

"Alexa, what's the weather?" Or "Alexa, what's the weather in San Francisco?" Quicker than Googling.

"Alexa, play Willie Nelson", "Alexa, play Mozart", "Alexa, play Michael Buble"- whatever you are in the mood for, she'll play it for you using Prime Music or one of your own playlists.

You can set up a customized news briefing, then say "Alexa, Flash Briefing" while you're making your coffee and she'll feed you just the headline topics you've set up.

For me, it's worth the price just for the music and shopping list features.

We've had one for a few months...they are improving it still. It has some home automation stuff now - I really want to be able to tell it to turn lights off and on, etc. - I want to live in the future. :)

But for the most part, it's a voice-activated music box so far.

Christy has embraced the Shopping list and To-do list. She also now loves to play "Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings" on Echo. What has the world come to?
