PVB: LV vs. STD?

It looks to me as if many of the LV Studios at PVB will have direct views of the Bungalows in front of them, at least from the first floor units. Do we know for sure that the first floor units in Moorea are classified as LV? Recent photos show the views from the first floor, and it seems you'd be luck to catch a sliver of The Castle or Space Mountain. Add to that the blasts from the ferry horn, and the LV units don't seem to be that wonderful a proposition.

The STD rooms, on the on the other hand, all look into nicely landscaped grounds, and even the parking lot-facing Pago Pago rooms aren't right on the parking lot.

The point difference isn't huge between these two categories, relative to the price difference between STD and LV rooms at PVR.

What are your thoughts?

I have the same question after seeing a pic from Moorea studio. I have a LV booked and am wondering if I should save a few points and switch to standard. I would be disappointed paying more points to look straight into a bungalow

You will find that DVC/Disney is pretty loose with it's room view categories. If it is a lake view, that means that you might see some water, it doesn't mean that it will be a clear unobstructed view of the lake.

I agree you will find that but it really is unfair for them to charge more points for a water view if you cannot really see the water very clearly. Maybe they should be Bungalow View?!

It also bothers me that they categorize LV at the Poly as Lake View on the DVC Points Charts. It does not face a lake, it faces a lagoon. You'd think they would know that since they dug out the lagoon themselves.

We had similar issues at Kidani, BLT and BWV and I wrote to member satisfaction a gazillion times about it. At Kidani, we met with the GM in our room and discussed the view. BLT and Kidani were eventually changed, still waiting for the BWV, village green boardwalk view to get changed.

During the time the construction on the quiet pool is going on, I would pick lake view. I think that standard view could easily be a construction site view. I would rather look at a Bungalow than a construction site.

But only the west-facing rooms in Tokelau would overlook the quiet pool, no? There'll still be way more STD view rooms than LV rooms, making your chances of getting a nice view much better.

Yes, that is correct, but I still would not want to take the chance of looking out at the construction or experiencing the noise. I also think it will be more difficult to navigate around the construction from Tokelau, even if not facing the pool. I'm not sure of the breakdown of units per building, but I thought Tokelau was one of the larger longhouses.

In many cases, I agree. However, BLT is a prime example of it not always working that way. Plenty of standard view rooms that can see the lake or a small portion of the castle.

In the case of Moorea, I have some concerns about those first floor rooms as well. Until we see more pictures from each room, it's hard to know what they will see.
I know I'm a bit heartbroken to see the pictures today from those first floor rooms compared to the view I remember from the same first floor rooms. Definitely not the treasured Poly lake view of my younger days.

Our May PVB reservation is costing us 19% more per night than the standard view. Once all the Tokelau construction is done, we will take our chances on standard view. Only standard view rooms we want to avoid are the Pago Pago parking lot view. There is a reason Poly CMs filled those Rapa Nui (now Pago Pago) parking lot view rooms last.

This is the exact reason we went with a lake view for our trip. Even if one got lucky with a standard view to not be facing the parking/construction lot, with the quiet pool soon to be under construction all the standard view rooms facing that pool are still going to be over looking construction.

Even though the view from the first floor of the lake view villas may not be the best view of the lake/lagoon, you should still be able to see the fireworks from WISHES from the patios. IMO, that justifies the extra points for those villas over the pool / garden view villas.

We toured the Bungalows and studios this week. The studio we were taken to was a lake view. Definitely, the bungalows were dominant in our view from the studio. It was still a lovely view however and in our minds, worth the extra points. Even the view from the bungalows had a view of an island in front (back). We have a bungalow booked for this fall but are re-thinking our decision. There will be six of us and although they sleep 8, we felt they are really made for 4.

I will be in a lake view for two nights next week--requested an upper floor so I will report back on it. We spend more time at the resort now and love some balcony time so we don't mind the lake view points. Just hope I can swing it again someday when the pool is open.

We have a LV too for May 1, and with the bungalows I also requested an upper floor to hopefully get a few over them.

Are you saying you want the village green rooms to be boardwalk view? Or the one bedroom that is over the village green to be changed to garden view? I was unlucky to get that room once.

Other resorts offer good examples of standard views some times having fire works view. Using that definition, BLT has a lot of standard view that should not be standard view. I have never stayed in BWV standard view, but I recall some people saying there are a few standard view rooms with a view of The Epcot fireworks.

I am somewhat relieved we did not opt to buy more PVB points. We debated splurging and buying a fixed week lake view. Unrealistic on my part, I was caught up in treasured memories of a past view from a Moorea/Tahiti first floor room. After Tokelau is completed, we will take our chances on standard view. I believe most of those standard view rooms will be great. We can go to the beach area near the pool and enjoy this fireworks and see the EWP.

DVD/DVC has a history of listening to concerns. IMHO, BWV and BLT provide two great examples.

I keep going back on forth on whether to get a LV or standard view. We are planning a trip for Oct 2016 and I just read something that said the quiet pool construction was started a little later than expected this year and it sounds like it'll be going on possibly when we're there next year? I'm not sure though so has anyone heard any news on the construction?

If you don't get a perfect lake view will you be disappointed? If yes, go with the standard view. Keep in mind you have a 1 in 3 chance of getting a 1st floor room.

We had a Std view last week and had a view of the mud pit so that kinda stunk but we very rarely went on the balcony. From all I've read the pool area will be completed by Oct of 16. I think it was originally to be completed by early 16 and if it started a couple months late I'd guess by the beginning of summer it would be complete.

So with Std view the only poor view by then will be in Pago Pago with the parking lot.

I agree, and our friends who had a first floor studio were able to see the fireworks. We had a second floor view, and would absolutely try to book LV each time we stayed at the Poly DVC.
