PTR: A Spring Fling on the Dark Side ...2 Muggles Celebrate in Diagon Alley!

In the 30s! Yay!

Go for the coffee! I'm sure you will appreciate it when you are there and you can use it at home if you have extras. Or just drink more! :surfweb:

Hmm. There's a Hash Go Go in San Diego. You'll have to let me know how it is in Orlando.

So close now. Our 3 night cruise 2 years ago was the first time we went as a couple since the oldest was born. It was so relaxing.

Ahhh, I am so waiting for the spring temps to arrive. We were below freezing again today. Not much is green around here yet.

Its freakin' cold here too......sunshiny and bright, but brrrrrrrrrrr :cold: . Tomorrow we're supposed to be a tad warmer but lots of rain. Might help get rid of some more snow from the backyard if nothing else!

So I showed my wife the video of the hash house. She said its a Go Go:rotfl2:. If you see any more discounts please let me know. The menu looks so good but I will definitely do the chicken and waffles. Everyone I ever mention chicken and waffles to says oh gross but I have had it a few times and absolutely love it. It is such a good combination. I think my kids would really like those watermelon drinks. They look neat.

I managed to get my air travel today. Just a bit of history. Last year I paid around 1150 us for the five of us to fly on Southwest from Flint Michigan. This year we are flying Spirit from Detroit for a whopping.....drumroll please....511. I am so stoked as this really helps the budget. 102.20 pp round trip. I haven't heard the greatest things about Spirit but its non-stop and the times are good. Plus I will be able to save money on a park and fly as the flight leaves at 8:40 am and I will be able to drive over in the morning. I am still going to have to pay for 2 checked bags each way that will cost me 120 but it still leaves me at 631. Just a little tip for anyone flying Spirit and not living to far from the airport. They charge you $17 each way for booking online. It is included in the price so you don't notice it. They have a notice on the site that says tickets may be cheaper at the airport but it is in small type. I did some research and found the trick of going to purchase the tickets at the airport. Online the same tickets were 690.90 and obviously 511.00 I paid at the airport. Quite a significant savings with a family of five and the 180 savings will cover the majority of my rental car. They are definitely a no frills airlines as they don't give you drinks or peanuts but I will bring some granola bars for the kids and either fill up refillable cups with water or share a couple pops I purchase in the airport. Southwest and Delta were going to run me 1300 us for the same dates. With Delta I still would have had baggage fees as well.

Your trip will be here before you know it. The 30 day mark is fast approaching!!

Holy moly, that's one amazing rate for your airfare!!! The money you have saved will go along way for extras for your trip ::yes:: ..... perhaps you'll be able to squeeze in that DC visit after all! :cool1:

Steve is drawn towards those chicken and waffles, too (they're not my style....just an odd combination from my bland and boring perspective....but Steve thinks they're a perfect pairing!). But at the same time, he's a burger guy.....so he's in for a bit of a connundrum when it comes time to order. We will be looking forward to hearing how you guys enjoy Hash House when you give it a try in the fall! Fingers crossed they will have another similar 50% off deal (I will be sure to keep my eyes peeled for ya!).

A Dis meet would have been neat. We rarely have a conversation about Florida without me saying I read today Gina saved money today by doing this. Lol

:goodvibes :thumbsup2

lol, confession time here.....I don't even own a coffee maker at home  .

We live within walking distance to a Tim Hortons, and as a general rule, I don't make very good coffee (Steve tends to take on that job while we are on vacation).....so I have no way of using the pre-measured packets when we are not in Florida.

I do, however, like your "drink more" suggestion. Think of how much we could accomplish on vacation with all that caffeine!! :hyper: :jumping2::jumping3::Pinkbounc:earseek:

Espresso is a tad strong for my tastes, but its a good idea otherwise!! We used to make single-cup coffee here at our office in a similar little contraption (in a Bodum? or something like that) before we got the Keurig.

And so.....we are officially at the 5-week mark! :flower1:

Unfortunately, I think my sinus infection is recurring :headache: (and yes, I just finished the prescription medication last Thursday night). I'm going to give it a few more days, and if the nasal drip/coughing/sore throat is still an issue by Monday, I'll make another doctor's appointment. I'm not going to let things go this time, since we're starting to get down to the wire and a delay on my part could mean I regret it later. This is one royally stubborn virus, or I am one incredible host. Of course, the weather continues to be miserable, so if I'm needing some sun and warmth to help chase the germs away, there's no wonder I can't shake it. We just get out of suffering through another round of -15 temps at night, and now its pouring rain (with the expectation that it will change to snow this afternoon :sad2: ). Not very "spring-like" just yet.

I have to say, the recent news reports of the Airbus crash in France has really weighed heavily on my heart and is increasing my well-controlled flying anxieties. So many air tragedies in recent months.....I ache for the families of those involved, and it makes me a tad fearful of our multiple flights over the course of this year. My head knows that statistically I'm much safer in a plane than in a car, but yet these kinds of disasters still rattle my nerves more than I care to admit. Might be time for a yoga class or two before we fly to help me find my zen ::yes:: .

bankr63 has returned safely from his Orlando travels (I cannot WAIT to see his pics!), I'm pretty sure coastgirl is also back from her March adventures, and if pigletto has not yet landed back in Canada, she should be home very soon. I hope they will drop in to this thread to say hello and share some of their trip highlights with us all. In the meantime.....

Just 35 days to go! :woohoo:

That news out of France is just awful. Yes, it's ramping up my flying anxiety as well.

Could you have the start of spring allergies? I know here in NJ the pollen counts have been going up and all of a sudden everyone seems sick. It sounds like allergies from your description (the drip irritating your throat and causing the cough). The pollen could also be re-irritating your already inflamed sinus cavities, causing the pressure there. I hope you feel better soon, I hate those infections that take so long to kick.

Gina sorry to hear you are still under the weather. I had a chest infection that took 4 weeks to get rid off over Christmas so I know how you feel :(

The Airbus crash is just awful, although the news tonight is saying it was the co-pilot who crashed the plane and not any mechanical failure. I can't understand what must be going through someone's mind to do something like this.

On a brighter note, 5 weeks should fly by and hopefully the sun will be yours :) Did you decide on visiting Celebration, not sure if you read my post?

Gina I am sorry to hear about your sinuses. I was hesitant to post it when we last talked about it but it's worth a mention now .. it's been recently suggested that the majority of sinus infections are viral and won't respond to antibiotics as previously thought. Because it's a rather new line of thinking (medically speaking) a lot of doctors still throw antibiotics at them and a good portion of the time they don't work. I had one that I went on antibiotics for twice and got no relief. I thought I would lose my mind. In the end you know what helped? Saline gel rinse from Shoppers Drug Mart! I swear to you... it was gross.. but I used it and the stupid pain that had been plaguing me for well over a month was GONE. Of course go see your doctor again but you may need to clear out your sinuses and the gel was good because it's also a lubricant and the sinuses are often dry and cracked.
I never would have thought a saline rinse would do the trick but I swear to you it did and I could have cried from relief so I thought it was worth a mention.

The news of the recent plane crash was all over the news on our flight home on Jetblue yesterday. It's just heartbreaking and my thoughts are with the families of those on the plane :(. To hear of it while in the air really didn't do anything for my anxiety and I ended up taking a second pill.

We're back from our trip. The weather was glorious and we had a really nice time. Our credit card was compromised which caused some headaches at the end of the trip but that was the only issue. We really liked Cabana Bay and Portifino was gorgeous. The kids kept saying it was the best trip yet and they enjoyed all the new stuff so much!

The highlight of the trip would have to be my 11 year old being selected for the wand choosing ceremony in Ollivanders on his birthday!!! And the hands down family favourite activity was Aquatica. We had a BLAST!!!!! That is a lazy river on steroids lol.
And Orlando Ale House was our favourite meal (we went to the one on Kirkman Road).
Sad to be back and have no trip in the plans.. but you know me.. it won't be long.:rolleyes1

Gina, sorry to hear of your sinus issues. My poor DS has allergies, and he's already on medication, even though it's still cold. We get snow tomorrow, and are still having rain today, lots of it. Our high is 5 degrees above freezing. I am so ready for warmer weather.

Glad to hear the Pigletto family had a great time. A great thing to be picked on his birthday.

So, the countdown continues--- almost less than a month now. :beach:

You know, the possibility of allergies has crossed also my mind once or twice. Oddly, though, we've had almost no really warm weather yet, which is I guess why I have discounted that as the issue thus far......but maybe there's more allergens in the air than I think. I'm going to try some nasal spray that I have here and see if that makes a difference. Heck, at this point, its worth a try ::yes:: .

Yes, we are definitely visiting Celebration!! (and thanks so much for your awesome comments and info!) We're saving that for our Christmas trip though, to take in all the festive holiday events. We thought we'd go on either Christmas Eve or Christmas night for some "snow", a horse drawn carriage ride, and maybe even some skating. We were looking for something really festive for those nights so this seemed just perfect :santa: .

Ugh, I can't seem to stop reading the updates on that dang plane crash. Everytime I scour yet another article (and the whole mess just gets sadder and scarier) I vow its the last one I'm going to read. And yet.....I can't help myself. My poor mom (who is terrified of flying.....never been on a plane in her life) is having heart failure at the thought of our upcoming flights. I will have to call her as soon as we're off the plane because I'm sure she'll be beside herself with worry.

So glad you are back!!! And even happier to know you had so much fun! We missed your contributions here :goodvibes .

How very cool that your birthday boy was chosen at Olivanders!! What an awesome gift!

Thanks for the tip on the saline gel. I hate anything sloshing around the interior of my nose :scared: but at this point, I'm running out of options. Time to put on my big girl panties and try out Plan B. At least if it DOESN'T help, I can assure the doctor at the next appointment that I've given some alternate treatments a fair shake.

I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed Aquatica so much!! lol, Roa's Rapids is certainly my favourite feature. I could seriously just spend the entire day in there and be quite content.

You had been on my mind following the news of the crash....knowing (and sharing) your flying anxieties, I had hoped against hope that perhaps you hadn't heard about it before departing. The day before we left Disney in 2009, we were waiting to be seated at Sci Fi when another guest who was waiting for their reservation (and who was from NYC) got a text about the plane that had crashed into the Hudson River. Its terrifying to hear at any time, but worse when you are ready to jump on another plane yourself.

I know you said you don't have any other trip plans in the works just yet, but may I suggest you give October some thought :flower3: . To get the most bang for your buck out of those Universal AP's. And to take in the Halloween events. And to soak up some heat before our atrocious winter arrives again. And oh yeah! Because I'm there too :teeth: .

Hmmmm....so your kiddo is already suffering from allergies too? Maybe there's more to that theory than I think, then :scratchin. Yet, I haven't suffered from allergies before. Terribly mystifying!

Here's to some warm weather for all of us soon :sunny: .

We all loved Orlando Ale House our last trip, must have been 6 times or more over the 3 weeks. My DH and DD loved the ribs and the daily specials are good value. We went to the one on the 192 West.

I hope you are able to get your sinuses dealt with. Glad to see Pigletto had a nice trip

Gina I tired to get dh to bite on the October trip while we were sitting outside the Simpsons ride waiting for the kids to come out. In fact, I even presented it as a trip just for him and I for a long weekend and leaving the kids behind ;). He wasn't opposed. Just a lot of "Hmmm's" and "Maybe's". Problem is (and this is always the way with dh) he has no idea how quickly any chance at an AP rate will be gone if we don't book fast. I'll feel it out a little more this week :).

Ah yes, the ribs :thumbsup2 . That's what Steve will want to order, I guarantee you! ::yes::

I will wish you lots of good luck! pixiedust: We are there from the 10th to the 17th (probably doing HHN on the 15th...if not that date, then the 14th). It will be just us adults as well (no Jake or Sweetie) so we'd totally be up for a Dismeet! Get those powers of persuasion going and keep me posted on how you fare :goodvibes .

Your trip is getting very close. So excited to read all about it when you get back. I am in awe at how organized you are down to having everything paid for in advance- except the coffee! I so wish I had a little of that in my blood- I am always such a mess. I will say that trip planning is when the most organized parts of my brain do come to life though. I just started looking at availability for a possible trip next February. We own DVC so we would stay there but I think we may do some other Orlando things and not so much Disney. Maybe do a few parks days and enjoy the resort and Orlando. Your trip reports have inspired me for sure and it looks like I will have several of them to read for inspiration between now and then.

Gina if the saline helps, better bring it with you. Pretty much everyone I know right now is suffering from allergies down here. Mother Earth is busy sending all types of pollen everywhere right now! And I think in the past 2 months, I have had 2 rounds of sinus infections due to allergies. I am over the allergies the way I would imangie you all are over the snow!

Honestly, I sometimes wish I was less organized and more......"free". Spontaneous. Live-for-the-moment. Unfortunately, efficiency is very much my middle name, and I'm afraid it comes out in my trip planning more than anywhere!!

I think you will find a ton of attractions outside the parks that are worthwhile, super fun, and a good value. We always enjoy a balance between the big parks and the little gems. It makes us appreciate Orlando as a whole! (and keeps us coming back for more)

All of a sudden, I am very grateful that there's a Walgreens right next to the Vistana!!!
