Good news for vegans, GF and those with other allergies or other dietary restrictions that used to count on Babycakes for there sweets fix. According to the Disney Food Blog, Erin McKenna (Babycakes founder) has opened a new bakery in DD in the Landing area. I'm not sure about the name change but I think it's mainly a rebrand to get Erin's name out. This is great for DD14 who has several allergies that Babycakes provided a good option.

They had the rebranded stuff in January at Beach Club. It was pretty good.

As far as you know, is it the same stuff just with a new name?
With Enjoy life switching all of their products to buckwheat flour Babycakes have been the only non-rice dream treats my son gets at Disney.

As far as I know, it is just a rebranding. We have ordered some items from the Erin McKenna's Bakery website and the items (cupcakes, blondes, frosting, cookies, and frosting) seemed to have the same taste and texture as the many Babycake products we have eaten. DD14 is allergic to dairy, egg, tree nuts (not all), and peanuts, but I believe the new place advertises that they have GF and vegan deserts. I imagine it was just a way to get her name out there in case she can someday parlay it into something bigger. I am hoping we get some first hand reports back here soon. Babycakes is a big part of DD14's visit also.

I'm super happy they've returned. I've heard wonderful things from people who have visited the new shop! Hooray!

It the same company if you go on baby cakes NYC web site it now her first name in front of baby cakes NYC. So maybe for Disney they just dropped baby cakes and went with her first name instead.

They rebranded their remaining LA store as well. You should always ask before ordering anything. I've seen a sign at the one here apologizing that a recipe was revised and now included something.

Very happy to hear this. Thanks for the info. I did not know her name just knew the products as Babycakes. I was able to get some at the BC during our Christmas trip. Also at the Boardwalk bakery. Good to know they are in DD again.

It appeared to be Vegan and Wheat Free. I got a small 4 pack of frosted brownie bites that were pretty good they did have flavored icing that was mint, chocolate, and coffee. (the one with green frosting, it was mint flavored ICK! and the coffee one was not very strong but nice and the chocolate was pretty tasty) I also bought a chocolate frosted donut and a cinnamon/sugar donut. Those were okay, I generally like cake donuts. I'm not a fan of Cinnamon and this one was really really cinnamon flavored so I wouldn't get it again. The chocolate one was pretty good. I did find both of the donuts to be a little over moist, but still not bad.

Didn't know about the Enjoy life items. Crap, I'm not Gluten Free but I buy them because I'm allergic to wheat, eggs and dairy. Unfortunately I'm also allergic to Buckwheat...guess I'll stop buying those now.

It used to be that their crunchy cookies and some of the bars had buckwheat. About 2 years ago they changed the recipes for the soft cookies and the remaining bars so all of them have been using buckwheat. There were no announcements, it was around when they redecorated all the boxes though if you remember that. The chocolates should still be ok. If you have been eating those cookies and bars in the last few years and not reacting this may actually be good news that you aren't reacting to those amounts. :)

I'd had the soft cookies before but I bought some sugar cookies a couple of weeks ago (I don't eat them very fast so I probably wouldn't have noticed since a box will last me weeks or a month) but last week ate more then I usually would in a short period and broke out, so I looked while at the store today and there was buckwheat in the ones I bought. (my fault I hadn't looked close enough to the actual blend of flours) I actually tolerate small amounts of allergens (except pineapple and actual wheat) pretty well if I don't stack it on but I ate probably 6-8 cookies last week over a couple of days so that might have been the breakout. I have bought the chocolate before with no problems. The cookies were my first time buying the crunch ones.

I tend to not sweat the small stuff usually and just make sure any allergens are in small amounts or spread out but I'm more prone to rash out on grains then any of my other allergens.

That is what my son is like too, only being a little boy you can't just give him one when you have a box of cookies. At first I was upset he was developing a new allergy when he broke out and we connected it to the cookies- but no, they changed their recipes without any sign that they did so. It has taught me that I still have to stop and read all of these ingredient lists even if we eat something all the time.

Not to be obvious, but just in case someone didn't know, buckwheat is gluten free. It is not technically a grain, and it is generally easier to digest than many alternative grains. IT's also a great source of minerals like magnesium :) It is not related to "wheat" as in "wheat gluten", which is confusing due to the name.

As for babycakes coming back to DD... YAY!!! I must say that this was a treat I really enjoyed so much. Stopping to get a box of cupcakes to share with family when we are in Orlando. Stopping on a park day to enjoy a brownie. What a treat. :) Especially since the remaining in park treats have dwindled to Enjoylife and OMG, which most of the OMG have dairy and the Enjoylife are just ... lack luster. I loved the French Meadow Bakery items. Love the babycakes, too!

Yes, we're just talking about Buckwheat because of people with specific buckwheat allergies. That detail, it being a fruit and not related to wheat is a little known piece of information that brings a ton of frustration to my life. You have no idea how many times I have told people about my son's buckwheat allergy and they respond that "it's ok, I already wrote wheat." We're talking medical professionals involved in procedures and hospital care too. Between avoiding wheat, eggs, dairy and buckwheat babycakes is the only company making desserts for my son!

Same here. I tend to put buckwheat with my grain allergy and not my fruit allergies because it is used as a grain replacement in so many GF foods. (most specifically bakery type items and noodles) Also I've never had the same reaction to buckwheat that I have to pineapple and strawberries (oral allergy syndrome as opposed to breaking out in a rash on my arms and legs). I have more problem with the fact that I'm NOT GF, as I have no reaction to Barley, lots of restaurants don't offer me items with malt or beer thinking I can't have them, but I often can. In fact I love the Newmans 'oreo' cookies but I have to explain that I can have them even though they specify they are not GF.
