CANADA SAYS 100% VACCINATED FOR CRUISES IN 2022

Preventing or limiting the spread of COVID-19 on cruise ships - Canada.ca

"Full" information found here.

Cruise Lines will have to arrange somewhere for you to quarantine if you test positive onboard.

If this occurs, a passenger can expect to be isolated on board the ship and not be able to take part in communal activities. At the end of their cruise, it will be the cruise line’s responsibility to arrange for COVID-19-safe accommodations for passenger isolation that meet the Quarantine, Isolation and Other Obligations Order requirements.
Wait, am I reading this correctly? The CRUISE LINE is responsible for footing the bill for you to quarantine at some Canadian hotel even after the cruise has ended?

I'm a glass half empty type of person, so I'm reading it that they the cruise line has to have arrangements for where someone can quarantine, but I don't read it that they will have to pay the bill. So I'm reading it that Disney would have a block of rooms available at hotel X that guest can stay at if positive, but the guest will be responsible for the cost of where ever they end up in quarantine.

That is what I am thinking as well....I can't imagine that DCL would agree to foot the bill for people to stay in a hotel and quarantine!

I called customer service earlier and she said they will drop you off at a hotel. Nothing about
paying for it. Also she mentioned to get good insurance. I guess meaning that may pay for
it. YMMV depending on insurance. I can not see cruise lines paying for testing...transportation
AND hotel bills.

So DCL arranging quarantine - I agree that this doesn’t mean they’d foot them bill - but do they offer the location? Like, would they say “this is the hotel we have a partnership with”? If so, is this the just-in-case hotel we’d put in our Canada arrival app (forgetting the name)?

ArriveCAN - and yes that would be very helpful if they had a named hotel for us.
I am guessing that the hotel does not wish to be named as a cruise line quarantine hotel out of concern for that affecting their regular reservations.

As a Canadian, who lives just outside of Vancouver and who has an Alaskan cruise booked for this July, I am also anxious to see what DCL has to say. Getting an antigen test here for travel is NOT easy. While some provinces, like AB and ON have very cheap options available to them, we in BC do not. A travel clinic will cost $110+ a person. I can get home tests done by telehealth with Switch Health for $40/ person so that may be the route we have to take. We do have at home tests given to us for free by the school district but I'm assuming we need tests that are lab verified.

Do you interpret the new rules being that if we happen to test positive on the return testing, we could go home to isolate? Ie have private transportation (own car) to drive home?

Yes I absolutely do. I fully expect that if we were to test + we would be sent home (as long as we provide the quarantine plan).

Ok if you live in Vancouver. Not helpful for anyone else. This puts an end to cruising for us. We had a hard enough time finding a farm sitter for 7 days, they're not going to stick around another 5 days. I was hoping they would drop embarkation testing. But if someone who is positive gets on board, we could
all be positive after 7 days with no masks.

Well of course. Super convenient for us as we live in the Vancouver area, just as it is convenient for many who live in Florida, that if they test positive and cannot board in Port Canaveral they can just go home, too. For everyone else in between, definitely not convenient and I can fully understand people NOT wanting to risk this.

yes to this! I’m so angry at this point of it all. I’ve played by all “the rules” the last 2 years. Worn my mask religiously vaccinated and boosted. If the kids were designated close contact or us we truly quarantined and I know not all did this. I feel like something has got to give here. Also the site is down so I can’t even price out cruises out of port Canaveral (I really don’t have a desire to do the Caribbean or Bahamas again but feel like I have to or loose my discount and OBC) because the site is down. I was really hopeful for a different kind of announcement today. It will be interesting what Disney says they are going to do about it. Sorry for the rant I wanna go to Alaska on Disney darn it!!!

I’m actually wondering if DCL will require travel insurance that includes Covid quarantine coverage — like they did last summer for a short time when allowing unvaccinated passengers? They’ll expect you to have the coverage that will pay any post-cruise quarantine costs.

I honestly don't know how they would handle this. Currently, you are not allowed to enter Canada with a positive test or risk getting fined $5000 per person. Obviously when you're on a cruise you have no choice because you have to go somewhere. For me currently, I live in a border city in Ontario but if I test positive, I can't cross the border back to Canada and drive 15 minutes to my house to go quarantine, I would have to stay at a hotel in the US to quarantine and can't cross back for 10 days (or until I get a negative test). I mean, allowing you to go home and quarantine would be the logical solution but....we can't currently do that right now so who knows.

Also wanted to add for anyone entering the US by land border, you do not currently need to have a covid test. So if you fly in/out of Seattle and drive to Vancouver from there, you won't need a test to return to the US, the test is only if you are arriving by air.

Thanks for mentioning this - may consider this for our flight home.

@StarSeven7 I'm hoping they remove that ridiculous threat of a fine very soon. It hasn't been in place that long either (maybe 2 months?)
Same!! It definitely wasn’t there at Christmas! My family lives about 2.5 hours from us in the US so we would love to go back to traveling there for weekends but it’s a little hard when you’re risking not being able to come home for 10 days every time! 🤪

Florida is just convent overall since there are basically no rules so even if someone tests positive at port no one is telling them what to do and not do so there is likely those that will just go and do other things in florida if they tested positive (especially if no symptoms) before their flight home. Those that drove will be a mix. Don't have to agree with it or not but its more being realistic.
