Alleluia!!! Removing pre arrival covid 19 testing is on the horizon

This article makes it sound like PCR will be replaced with an antigen “on arrival”. I would be fine with that.

Same. At least will be back in Canada. My fear was always that added cost of having to be stuck in the US. Ah this makes me so happy! Obvs would love no test at all but would much rather this
ETA: ok should have kept reading now seeing might still need antigen on way home. I will just wait for the announcement I guess. Although that at least seems easier. We all had Covid just don’t have proof since we couldn’t get pcr’s

Sounds amazing, and the sooner the better. I'm with others, it will happen AFTER the spring break just because. Would 100% take a ton of stress off me during my March break trip though! I'm prepared and going no matter what though.

I’m also hoping they reduce the 14 day isolation period for under 5’s returning from international travel. At this rate if we go to Disney for a week, I have to take a further two weeks off work as he wouldn’t be allowed to daycare. I haven’t heard much talk about this though.

So maybe we didn’t need to pay for a pcr to prove our positivity after all. It figures. 😂 But I will be thrilled regardless since this will open the door for our summer travel plans.

It’ll help going south for the next 90 days (and coming back for the next 6months if they keep that caveat!

The way I read it, you still need to a negative test to return into Canada as it says "show proof of a negative antigen test" but will be PCR vs antigen (so lets see if 72 hours or they lessen the time). Wil need to see the details....and if we can return but quarantine if positive or can't return at all (for land border).

Article says end of the month .... fingers crossed.

My read as well... my prediction is that they potentially align to US approach - antigen within 1 day of travel... maybe two

Oh dear - that will actually make this worse. At least with the current 72-hour window you have both more flexibility and time to scramble if you or anyone in your party tests positive. But within 24 hours? Can you imagine how stressful that will be trying to figure out how to isolate for 10 days in a foreign country? And - please note almost everyone is overlooking this - if you're with family, all the ones who tested negative before will still have to test AGAIN, and if one of them is now positive - which can be very likely, as you are all probably isolating together - the 10 day clock starts once more.

ANY testing to return is a potential nightmare, and I can't imagine most people will ever want to take these chances. And narrowing the testing window to return just makes things even harder.

The thing is that an antigen test at 3 days is totally useless... I am also hoping that 10 days gets cut down to 5 days... Reality with antigen is that most will test negative after 5... not as sensitive as PCR, and will not provide "false positives" post infection. Don't get me wrong, I get what you are saying

That's even better.
Regardless, not everyone has access to free testing. So antigen is still better in my book for travel.
Yes, and just for the record, please don't equate what's available in a major tourist center, a state that charges no income tax because they make it up on hotel taxes and such from travelers, with other places in the U.S. Yes, it's a Disney forum, but I have to point that out in case people are going elsewhere thinking that the free testing situation is the same.

I work with covid swabbing . I personally haven’t found your statement “most will test negative after 5 days accurate “ that’s not what I’ve seen at work at all.
Just a heads up for those who might think they would be good to return with a negative rapid on day 6 technically ( first day positive or with symptoms is day 0)

Can I ask what how many days it typically takes to test negative after a positive antigen test?

Question for those that have tested positive, how easy was it to extend the hotel stay or find new accommodations? We are hoping for Disneyland in June, driving so I guess on the way home we'd do the test but would have to book a hotel in Washington if we test positive, not so concerned about the time or money factors as we work remotely so no issue there but I am worried about being able to find a hotel that will take us!

Well this obviously depends on the rules in June which will be very different than today.

I returned from DL (driving) recently (10 days ago) with a positive PCR test. I do not live far from the border, roughly 20 minutes. Upon arrival they confirmed my quarantine plan and sent me on my way with another PCR test.

There would be no need to stay in the USA if you are close enough to the border and have a clear quarantine plan.

However June will be a very different time for sure.

Not saying this is true either... I am just going with what has been stated before by some of the public health authorities to justify shorter isolation periods. Now, I'll leave my comment as that, as I do not want this thread to be locked for veering into what is not allowed to be discussed.

zero issues. There is nothing to say you need to tell them. I simply booked a new timeshare for a week, checked in like normal (with a mask of course). In a regular hotel for one more night before I fly home tomorrow. Everything was booked only a day in advance of having to check out if original place we stayed at.

No matter the regulations, there is nothing saying you can’t test a few days in advance. Bring rapids if you can. You just can’t use those results to cross border. In our case, travelling companion was having symptoms. So she did rapid and was positive. That same day we were able to get her a free PCR test. She is en route back to Canada. The rest of us did rapids and were negative, so just waited for it scheduled Walgreens tests the next day. Of which I was +, the other two -.

If you’re crossing by land, they can’t turn you away no matter where you live or what your quarantine plan is. However, the rules clearly state you are NOT supposed to cross if positive, but instead isolate outside of the country for 10 days. And if you come in anyway, there is the possibility of massive fines.

I get that if you are close to the border, and have a clear plan, you will most likely not get fined, but that is hardly a guarantee.
