Disney considers reducing portion sizes to cut costs.

What are your thoughts? Will you continue to eat at the parks if Disney does this? Will you keep coming to Disney at all?

On the one hand, disney portion sizes are massive. On the other hand, disney food is already incredibly overpriced while being massive.

Given that I went back to my resort with doggie bags nearly every night in my most recent trip, I wouldn’t say this would be my least favorite cost-cutting measure (like cancelling new attractions or reducing entertainment), but it’s still sad to see Disney hasn’t hit the bottom yet.

I believe they are already testing this out at Cape May. They are SO stingy on the portion sizes there.

I've already reduced my meals at the parks to one per day. I have already stopped eating at resorts. I've enjoyed Disney Springs but last week when looking for a place to dine I got sticker shock at the places available and decided we wouldn't eat there.

Five days in the parks:
- Tony's lunch (at DS request) where meals are reasonable for Disney. AP Discount.
- Treated ourselves to Space 220 Lunch. AP Discount. Took half with us for dinner.
- Split a dinner at Rose & Crown. AP Discount.
- Lunch at Satuli' Canteen (DS got kids meal).
- Lunch at PizzaRizzo.
I order water everywhere.

We bought three snacks.

All other meals offsite.

Doubt it if these continue. It's a culmination of everything...lessening benefits yet increasing prices. I always thought portions, for the most part, were small for the price already. Will likely eat meals off property and only eating the odd snack to get you thru until the meal off site.

I don’t comment much on pricing stuff, haven’t had much to say about G+ or dearth of discounts. I just decreased my stay a day. But…although many food items at Disney are huge to my eyes (not taking cost into account), and everyone’s aware that there are issues with shipping, inflation, etc etc etc…this really bothered me. Not that it might happen, but how it was said.

What was she thinking??? Did she need to mention waistlines? That seems at least disrespectful and insensitive, if not downright condescending. And just short of insulting. I mean, we could certainly have a discussion on how tough it is to find appealing healthy choices at Disney if we want to get into waistline maintenance. But instead, and I hope they read this: ya’ll need to raise pricing? Fine - let’s see where it tops out. But it’s probably time to put a lid on your verbal arrogance.

Honestly, this is something that companies do all the time hoping you won't notice. At least they were being honest.
If people still pay and money is being made, they will continue this practice. There is a tipping point, and it's something they are going to test out until they see a decrease in profits.
For our upcoming trip, we are eating in the parks much less, and dramatically less TS meals than before. We are purchasing 2 less days on our ticket. We aren't going to the Christmas Party as it is over $1000 for 4 people to attend (CRAZY), we would have gone if the price was more reasonable. We probably will buy less merchandise without the resort shipping. And for sure will not purchase G+ or ILL$ for our park days.
When I have to shell out more money for things that used to be included, then my spending in other areas gets reduced. I know I'm not alone. Disney will eventually see the loss from all this get less/pay more trend. We have already said next trip we spend more time at the resort (we have DVC points to use each year) and a few days at Universal (we have never been to Universal in all our million Florida trips). Disney is losing quite a bit of money from our family alone in the future.

Given a choice between reduced portion sizes and increasing prices, I'll take the reduced portions as I think Disney's are (for the most part) huge. There are often lots of things we want to try in the parks, but simply can't because we are already full. However, the comment about reducing waistlines was completely uncalled for, and just shows how tone deaf this management team actually is.

The comment that bothered me the most was the one about substituting ingredients or changing vendors. This worries me, as it will probably affect the quality of the food. And that's disappointing.
