Contemporary or Yacht Club - Opinions Needed

Hello - we are currently deciding between these 2 hotels for our September trip. We have stayed at the Yacht Club before and loved it - no real downsides for us. We have never stayed at the Contemporary. We do like trying new resorts so that is a major plus for us. We recently stayed at the Grand Floridian and also loved that - we loved all the transportation options, however the Epcot monorail not running was a real disappointment. I’m not sure it will be running in September either.

Which resort would you chose and why? Both resorts are similarly priced so that is not an issue. Both for garden view rooms.
We love eating and drinking, love walking to parks and not dealing with buses. We especially love a mid afternoon drink, which we find difficult at any Disney resort (besides pool bars). The Wave was one of the only bars we could grab a drink before 4 and we utilize it a lot. I know it probably won’t be open September 1. Though? Thank you!

I feel like you can't go wrong on either however if you want to do any swimming, the pool at Stormalong is much nicer. Also, you get the added perk of walking/boating to two parks at YC vs only to MK at CR. And as far as dining, I don't love the dining options at CR even when the Wave is open and for me not having an Epcot monorail running is kind of a bummer and no easy way to get to Poly without the monorail so really there are more food options nearby at YC than at CR right now.

I think both are great resorts but if I am picking between the two right now, I am a vote for a BW area resort over any monorail resort if I'm planning any epcot/DHS days.

Even though I am a weird duck who doesn't like going into Epcot through the IG, Yacht Club all the way on this one. Have you seen the Contemporary redo?? Yuck.
I think those are just the main tower rooms. We would be garden view wing.

Thanks for your thoughts. This is the direction we are leaning. Was excited to maybe try a new resort. And maybe hoping the Epcot monorail would be running by then. But first week of September we will be having lots of pool time so Yacht Club is definitely pulling ahead on that one.

I’d pick YC, especially if you have hoppers. Lots of food options, great location and better theming. But if you’re more focused on MK obviously contemporary is better. Depends on your needs
Thank you - we are leaning toward Yacht Club for the pool and ability to walk to two parks. What are you thinking when you say lots of food options in that area? Besides the parks I mean.

I don't know this for certain but my guess is that until a good bit of the epcot construction is further along, the monorail won't be running. The line goes over so much of the work being done, I think that Disney doesn't want guests seeing these projects underway. I would hope it's up by the 50th but I am not holding my breath.

It sounds like you’re leaning towards YC and I think that’s a good choice. We’ve never stayed at the Contemporary, but have stayed at BLT, and we didn’t really care for it. The pools are so lackluster and we were just meh about the food options. Plus, I think a lot of the Contemporary is getting renovated right now, including the lobby.

YC gives you the option of walking to two parks, and since you’ll be going during F&W, I think being able to walk ton/from Epcot would be so nice. SAB is just great and with traveling in September, I’d choose SAB any day over the pools at the Contemporary. Lastly, I like the food options more around Crescent Lake.

The Boardwalk restaurants and then also the dining options over at the swolphin. They have lots of good options. You can also skyliner over to Riviera.

If you want to try the CR, you could try a split stay and just stay a couple of nights at the CR and then the rest of your stay at YC. Best of both worlds!

Great idea! Would love to, would never be able to talk hubby into it. Are the boardwalk restaurants open yet? We love Flying Fish but heard it was still closed.

We just finished a stay at Yacht club last week and agree with the variety of dining options. The Skyliner is a real game changer for accessibility! We took it over to Riviera for breakfast and coffee one morning; you can continue on to Caribbean Beach/AoA/Pop and explore their dining options and pool bars. We made an entire day out of just hopping around on the Skyliner resorts and had a blast! We finished up at Abracadabar on the Boardwalk -- really great drinks & small plate options! Flying Fish was still closed while we were there.

I vote CR. It's original WDW and there is nothing more whimsical than the monorail swooshing through the resort. If you stay in the Tower, I'm not sure there is a resort that offers more with less walking. Seriously, almost every important thing (dining, buses, monorail, shopping, pool) is a very short walking distance away.

Plus, I'm in the minority with my affinity for Electric Water Pageant, but I'm telling you the views of the Electric Water Pageant are awesome from CR.

We only stay at CR when MK is our focus or we are going to an after-hours MK event and want to walk back to our resort. Now that GF has a walking path, CR is off our list. Other than proximity to MK, as an overall resort, there are just too many other, better options - YC being one of them. I love CR for its place in Disney history, but I just don't enjoy the resort - very limited dining options and it feels like an airport hangar. YC beats CR by a mile - better proximity to parks and restaurants, better resort layout, better pool, etc. Unless you are going to MK every day, YC would be my choice.

For me the CR may be iconic Disney, but is just not a resort I have any desire to stay in again. Sure the location is nice, but I am a big fan of having some peace and quiet when away from the parks, and that for me is difficult to achieve at the CR. But with that said, the location of the YC is hard to beat. Walking distance to two parks, quick access to the Skyliner, so many excellent dining options so close, and lets not forget about Stormalong Bay which most agree is the best pool in all of WDW.
