OKW THUMBS DOWN

I fear the overall quality at Disney is slipping.
Checked into room 3830 in okw yesterday. Didn’t use points this time. Woke up this morning to sit on balcony, the floor was so sticky and messy... bread slices left on balcony rails, tea stains on table and chairs.
‘Went to have a shower. Water flow drastically reduced to a trickle - probably due to the THREE, YES THREE water flow restricts I found in the shower heads - what the heck? Shampoo pumps all broken.
Next stop Olivias for some breakfast. Ordered at 10am, 45 mins later no food. No sign of waitress. Food finally comes and it was awful. Cold, undercooked poached eggs, undercooked sausage, the potato casserole resembled something my dog would bring up,no butter, no ketchup, no salt and no cup for the cold water I was meant to make tea with...
Finally the waitress arrived and got The manger. He came over and then tried to tell me that a watery egg was how a “ poached” egg should be.,but I had eaten half a sausage and some of the biscuit so he would give me some discount.....
To top it off the waitress then told me she could have replaced the missing items at any time. ***? I tried to get her attention but she was too busy keeping out of sight.
Quick visit to the front desk no they have cleaned the balcony, removed the flow restriction from the shower and credited me the breakfast.
For 600 per night I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask for a clean room with a working shower and a breakfast that arrives in a somewhat edible State. When we all bought into DVC we were sold a luxury resort and lovely amenities, and no one minds paying top dollar for that if that’s what you get. I know we are in pandemic but if they can’t deliver somewhat reasonable standards then perhaps they should not be open at all.
‘FYI I have heard a lot of complaints so far on my first day here. Several people at front desk complaining and people in pool area too. Not sure what about.

That stinks.

I hope your experience isn't a new normal.

I ate breakfast at Olivia's last fall. I wasn't a big fan of the potato casserole either. Everything else was okay, but not fantastic. I'll go there again and try lunch or dinner, but probably won't go out of my way for breakfast.
Finally the waitress arrived and got The manger.
They made you eat from a "manger"?

To me, it just looks like a bit of water got into (or was left) in the bowl they put the poached eggs in.

I agree with you and not just OKW but DVC in general. It's not a top-notch experience in a luxury hotel. It's really more like a Hilton experience. Not terrible, but not the "exclusive, luxury" they sell it as.

I've ate worse.

I usually stick with the pancakes at Olivia's for breakfast.
I'll get them next time. Everyone liked their mickey waffles that got them. I got the regular breakfast, the only thing I didn't like as I mentioned was the potato casserole.

Thanks for posting. We have DVC and APs, had park reservations this week but canceled suspecting we’d have a similar terrible experience if we stuck with it given what I’ve been reading here on the Disboards (added to experience from 3 other trips this year).
(Our previous stay this year at OKW also had the shower dribble but I didn’t complain. The room was clean and gorgeous. The door only opened with one or two of four magic bands sometimes. Never resolved. Family ate at Olivia’s and liked it. Pool was great.)
We kept our flights but stayed away from WDW this week, went to lots of other attractions and restaurants instead and had loads of fun.

I will just add these pics. Housekeeping is not as it should be and I would lay money on every unit being the same.. I am not a germaphobe but this is just gross and a lack of care probably since the refitting of the units. Proper cleaning takes time, that costs money, money they obviously don’t feel is worth spending. To be honest I listed all five of my contracts for sale last night. Time to try somewhere else for us. We have been in DVC since the beginning and had so many happy vacations here but there are now so many other options available for home from home vacation experiences now that Disney are not to of the tree anymore . It’s sad though that they don’t really seem to care that much.

Otoh, We stayed in a okw studio in dec. everything in perfect order. Same for akv.

I was going to suggest you move over to the Four Seasons tonight to take the taste of a bad breakfast and a dirty balcony away, but they wanted $1225 before tax.

Looked that up because I was looking to see if luxury could be had (close to Disney) for $600.

Sorry you weren't happy with your stay and I don't care for poached eggs that still have a watery white part either. I do like poached eggs with a soft yolk.

When I find litter in the rooms, I feel as if it hasn't been cleaned. It may be as clean as possible, minus the candy wrapper/tissue/jelly beans/underwear/shoes - but finding things that should be gone before I arrive means someone was either careless or over worked.

Take care and hope you enjoy your future vacations wherever you may stay.

Just got back from a stay at the Beach Club and had a totally different experience (other than the lack of restaurant options with Yachtsman and Cape May closed). Our room was clean but worn. It definitely needs a bit of TLC that likely requires it not have back to back guests - with the 1st floor construction outside of the building I don't think that's happening for awhile. Our room (a 1BR) wasn't available until after 4:30pm as it was.

We were missing a door hook on one door, the hook was falling off on another, some towel racks and shower door handles were loose, but overall it seemed pretty good. Given the reduced staffing and increase expectations of mousekeeping I'm not sure how they keep up. Disney was understaffed everywhere we went (except for life guards at the pool).

It's really more like a Hilton experience.
Having stayed in both HGVC (Lagoon Tower in Oahu, Kings Land and Kohala on the Big Island, Sea World in Orlando) and DVC (SSR, OWK, BLT, BCV, BWV, and BRV) timeshare villas, I think you are being generous in your evaluation of Disney's resorts.

That's not new, mind you---it's more or less the way it has been since I've been visiting WDW.
