Covid-19 closer to "home" than I'd anticipated...

We now know that an attendee at CPAC last week is positive for coronavirus, and a few senators have self-quarantined. I have a student who was at CPAC last week. While I suspect that Ted Cruz rubs different elbows than my student, hahaha, this is still a little worry in the back of my mind, especially as I got up with a sore throat and heavy chest. What do you think- time to worry?

If we don't do something drastic like Italy and China have done (big quarantines), yes, it will go everywhere. And, our medical system cannot handle it. Again I say, I hope to hell I'm wrong. But hope only gets us so far, and that damn virus does not care.

I think it is pretty crappy that the senators know who was confirmed as having COVID-19 so they know if they were in contact with that person but no one else knows. How can you determine if you could have been potentially infected if you don't know who was tested positive.

I think it’s going to hit everywhere eventually. The nearest case from me is only 4 miles.

I think it's pretty much everywhere already...we just don't know about it because we haven't been testing. This virus spreads easily and it's been out there before travel bans were instituted.

leebee--all you can do at this point is watch symptoms, especially if you have any other issues that compromise your immune system or you have respiratory issues like asthma or COPD.

At some point it's just going to be everywhere and will not be possible to contain. I'm sure there are many cases that were not documented, like people who had it and didn't know it, assumed they had the flu or some other virus and went out and about without knowing. Like the flu, it's everywhere and can't be contained.

I would say that worrying about this isn't helpful. It is time to educate ourselves and stop relying on the media to tell us where it is. IMO, we should assume it is everywhere and act accordingly. By accordingly I do not presume to tell anyone what that should mean. For each of us, that will differ.

JMHO

No. There is lots of crap going around that isn't COVID-19.

It's in my county. One confirmed case.

I work for a healthcare system but I work in the outpatient building (but in an admin suite) directly across the street from the hospital.

The one confirmed case is at a different hospital but yesterday my healthcare system sent out an email stating this man was in one of our urgent care centers last week so the 4 employees there have been quarantined. There are two patient's in isolation at the hospital and were tested with results coming in today.

I woke up Thursday with a sore throat and some chest congestion. But some people I know have tested positive for strep so I'm not really worried.

I think this will be everywhere soon enough.

Of course cases are sky rocketing. They are actually testing people now. The more they test the more cases they will find. All of the new confirmed case numbers make people think something has changed. It was just undetected before the testing. Stay healthy and safe!

There are 3 in my county. 2 more in the state have tested positive but don't know their location yet. (I just say that one of the 2 new ones is also in my county.)

I do not think the number of cases is going to sky rocket. The "leader" wants to keep numbers low so testing will be limited.

I actually think the incubation time isn't right, so I'm not truly worried, but it does make one pause and wonder. I don't imagine that many people will be able to self-quarantine; who's going to earn a living to pay the mortgage (and health insurance premiums)? It's going to be a mess if it's as widespread here as in Asia and Europe, because I don't know many people who would self-incubate, even if they did have the days off. I just don't think people will do it.

One of the agencies that is our "lead" agency, just shut down this morning. An employee returning from official travel in Egypt came back, felt fine, but then later got sick and tested positive. Everyone who spent any time with him has to self-quarantine and they are deep cleaning the building.

Don't worry but get the throat & chest issues checked out. No need to feel crummy when the symptoms could be treated.

Yep. I’m just getting over bronchitis but it sure could have looked like something else if I had panicked. We don’t have confirmed or even suspected cases anywhere near us so no need to worry.

I think there are many many many more cases. Younger healthy people would most likely not go to the dr. if they got coronavirus. They would recuperate then go on with their lives. Probably infecting people along the way, never knowing they had it. It's like the flu, you would not know you had it unless you were tested for it.

The media is making everyone crazy with the dramatics. "Breaking news!!! There is a case of coronavirus in PHOENIX (or Boston, or NY, or Dallas)!!!" Then everyone living around Phoenix starts to panic. "OMG I live 20 mins from Phoenix!" When in reality there are probably many cases in and around Phoenix and every other city. Soon it will probably be way too common to be able to track it.

It's not time to panic or stress yourself over.

This weekend our county had an individual test positive for the virus. It's only a matter of time before it spreads to more areas. Some people will disregard safety precautions. We can only focus on keeping ourselves and families healthy.

Perhaps the best thing that will come from this is that people will start washing their hands more frequently and being aware of spreading their germs.
