This could easily fit into the transportation board..

Disney, our benevolent father, gives with one hand and taketh with the other.....

"You will have additional transportation around my world
BUT
You will sit in an enclosed booth in the direct sun and you will not have a window, only "vents"

Go forth, be fruitful, produce more devotees....."

This is based on the newest reports...IDK. I'm just old and grumpy, I guess

I haven't been keeping up but is this true? add that to my list of lightning storms, long lines and no thank you I'll take bus

I don't read the news board, but I have read that there will be windows (that don't open). From the OP of this thread I was thinking dark enclosed cabin that you could not see out of!

Yes it is true, pretty much all gondola systems are like that. Not sure where long lines comes into play. These will have much, much, much higher capacity than the buses, so the lines will be significantly shorter and faster as it will be continuously moving.

I'd not really call it/them "windows."
I'd call it a "transparent enclosure."

You mean like at Peter Pan's Flight? ;)

Oh, and here is a photo I found of the old MK "Skyway" station in Tomorrowland, the way I remember it.

Ditto. I understand whey the windows can't open, but the whole system gets a big NO THANK YOU from me. If any resort goes to using them as the only way to get to any park, then those are resorts I will avoid, or plan on using taxis from.

Too many folks are afraid for heights for them to make it the ONLY transportation option to get to a park.....

Don't know where you saw this, but "vents" could include windows a few inches tall along the top of the cabin ends that are hinged to open inward or outward. In the old days, automobiles had small windows that opened outward that were called "vent windows"; they're less common now.

I keep hearing the lines will be short, but that skyway photo brought back to mind the very long lines we used to wait in to ride it. So it will be interesting to see how it all pans out. Just because the system doesn’t need to stop for people to board doesn’t mean people will be able to consistently board while it’s moving. People have a hard time boarding Disney transport when it’s at a dead stop. . .

Boarding is barrier-free. No steps, no aisles. Just step into the cabin and have a seat. No tie-downs for wheelchairs or scooters; just have the seat flipped up and roll on.

It's also widely speculated, based on the unique design of the trackage within the stations, that the system has been designed to allow individual cabins to be routed offline and stopped for Guests needing additional boarding time, without stopping or further slowing of the rest of the cabins. Think of the wheelchair boarding area at TSM.

The MK and DL Skyrides are irrelevant. They are very distant cousins of the system being installed now.

I was actually thinking more along the lines of people being distracted (phones, kids, conversations, whatever) that they will delay just enough to miss the gondola they should have boarded. Then they have to manage to focus long enough to board the next one . . .or the next one. If that happens enough, a line will definitely form. Just think for a moment about the times you have been standing in a line at Disney and people get so engrossed in what they are doing that they don’t move ahead. This happens all the time. It’s not a big deal in most cases because boarding stops and starts, but it will cause backups in a continuous boarding environment (think empty Peter Pan boats, or the e stops when guests don’t finish boarding in time and get to the end of the loading area with one foot still on the belt). My grandmother always had trouble boarding anything that was continually moving, and I imagine others will too.

I actually think the parties with mobility devices will be paying more attention than those without, although as you say, Disney may have the ability to pull gondolas aside for boarding in those cases.

This. I just do not get the appeal and I also think they'll be an eyesore. And forget about them being in service during summer afternoons, with all the lightning...

People like to complain about the monorail breaking down. Imagine the fun of dangling in a Skyliner cabin for 20 minutes as a mechanical issue is sorted out.

OK, I though you were comparing them to the buses, where boarding backs up because of the step up and people blocking the aisle to get settled.

I haven't seen many empty vehicles on PP; usually the cm's do a good job of keeping Guests moving when they reach the front of the line. But I don't ride it that often. Maybe it's changing now with people looking for their next FP+ on their phones.

These skyliners will be amazing.

Modern gondola systems of this size are in place at ski resorts all over the world. They are fast loading, smooth and I fail to understand how they will be an eyesore.

The loading will be via a moving walkway ala people mover.

Do you have a source for that? It's technically feasible, but not the norm. Usually they just move slowly enough thru the station that it's easy to board from a stationary platform. I haven't seen any rumors that Disney will use a moving platform.
