Hurricane Irma?

This is no fun :(

The wind and rain has really picked up, it's so noisy outside. My front door keeps rattling, and I'm now down from five palm trees in my yard to two. Power keeps flickering, we've all had an early dinner while we still had a working oven! My 4-year old is refusing to go to bed because the wind and rain are so loud, but thankfully my baby is sleeping right through it all.

There's a frog clinging for dear life to my front door; I would let him in but a) there's no way I'm opening the door and b) I think my cat would eat him.

How scary! Praying for your safety!

Where are you?

I don't know if this is relevant here, since there is another (smaller) thread about it, but do any of you have any insight as to how this will affect crowd levels? My mom is 62, and while she's hale and healthy, I'm sort of sitting here wondering if I should be changing our schedules to include much less. I saw one poster say that the crowd levels were much higher after Matthew, so I was going to ask if any of you have any input. TIA!

Ok this is too funny not to share....

Talking to Winnie (my daughter) about the hurricane. She asked if I'd seen pics of Miami. Told her I wasn't going to Miami, it's way south of Orlando, and the eye was breaking up. She said you mean it's just mra now. I was like what?!? Then she said that the "I" broke up so does that mean it's called Mra now.

She's 18...and she was serious--that's the scary part.
Omg so cute. Similar story. My sister Mel was telling our 4 year old niece (from our other sister) that we were all going to Miami. So she got excited and kept saying " we are going to Mel's ami! we are going to Mel's ami!"

I found a little baby spider in my hotel room earlier. I couldn't put him outside, I would have felt way too bad. So now I have a baby brown spider living with me... at least I'm not alone? XD

For our area we are looking at jumping the shark starting at midnight until 4:00 am.

The worst winds and rain are from the eye north, the southern end looks much better, and they say its drying up more so once the eye goes north of your area the weather will improve.

We were supposed to arrive at WDW 9/10. I called last week and waited on hold for 90 minutes to have the person transfer me to guest services (with another 5 hour hold!) to modify our 3 reservations to arriving on 9/12...but now our flight has been cancelled so I'll need to call back Tuesday to reschedule again. does anyone know if there is a direct number to guest services to avoid the initial wait to be transferred over there? I know they will be the only ones who can adjust all 3 reservations. Thanks!
I can't guarantee this number but someone said a couple of days ago that this number got them straight thru without waiting. 407-939-6104..another one that had a short wait was 407-939-7756. I wrote them down in case I needed them. Our vacation is scheduled for Sept 16-23. Fingers crossed I don't I have to cancel it. Good luck. Hope these numbers help

Yes, precisely. Luckily I couldn't possibly care less if my morals or sensitivity are questioned by a random member of a DISNEY message board. If I can't gripe here, where the heck CAN I gripe? I said NOTHING about how the hurricane has affected people in southern Florida and outside the US. I was talking specifically (VERY VERY specifically) about Disney World and one hotel in particular. The fact of the matter is that yes, they do seem to be having a fine time there. If we'd arrived on Friday as planned, spending today hanging at the resort would have been a welcome break, and it looks like it will be sunny by tomorrow afternoon.

Unfortunately I had pet issues on top of weather concerns and they are what ultimately pushed me to cancel, however, less fear-mongering might very well have been encouragement for me to look harder for a pet solution. Done is done and we are rebooked for next September, but that feels like a LONG time away.
The CMs are making the best out of a bad situation. I completely understand what you are saying though. A lot of the people at the resorts seem to be evacuees and not vacationers. This is at least taking their minds off of the storm hopefully. I hope you were able to reschedule your trip and get to enjoy a Disney vacation full of fun at the parks. I know it seems like a lot of fun at the resorts right now but after a couple hours in the lobby I'd be ready for this to be over. Plus being stuck in your room is no fun either. I think the parks are closed again tomorrow right? It's great that they are entertaining the guests but everyone would rather be out enjoying the parks if they could.

I just want to say strange it is to hear you worry about adapting plans for your 62 year old mom. I just turned 60 & my DH will be 62 in a few months. We have aches & pains sure, but we don't consider ourselves old. Until I read something like this!! :lmao:

Ha! I didn't want to come off that way, not at all. I just don't like to assume that she'll be okay with long lines over and over, etc. Basically I want to make it as fun for her as possible. :)

Did you actually watch it? It's the local FOX affiliate. They talk specifically about Orlando and the wind speeds and when it's expected to go through. There's nothing happening in Orlando right now.

CNN just reported that Irma is turning east and heading straight for Orlando.

I know the folks at Disney are safe, but I still wouldn't want to be there right now listening to this wind and rain. It's got to be rough on families with young kids.
Last I heard was the parks were closed Sunday and Monday. Can someone please confirm that?

Yep, closed today and tomorrow.

I found it odd and I'm 42. I'm like whoa nelly.
