Hurricane Irma?

Hey there. First time poster. So we were supposed to fly down on the Saturday. Got worried and and moved it to Monday. Now our Wilderness Cabins reservation was just cancelled as well as Orlando Airport just announced it was closing as of the 9th. We may have the option of calling guest services tomorrow morning and transfering our credit from Wilderness to a different resort. At this point though with the forecasts and worries about the aftermath we are thinking about cancelling and cutting our losses (Rebooking really isnt an option due to insane work schedules and blended families).

Would it even be worth it to head down on the monday the 11th?
Would the airport even be open then?
And airline says oh by the way we have to make our decision before the take off period.

Wife and I are soooo stressed.

PS if you are trying to call down call the IT support line (I did by accident). Its 1-407-939-4351 and then ask to be transfered. At least to reservations I got over in 5 minutes total.

She is in the "A" evacuation zone, not sure exactly where. There is a county map with all areas marked on the county (Panellas?) website.

My sister is oceanfront in Brevard (not sure what zone that would be, but I would guess similar). I wondered if it was because they wanted to give the south Florida evacuees time to move through since the Brevard people will be using a lot of the same roads. We never had a storm bad enough to evacuate when we lived in Pinellas County, but our house wasn't in an evacuation zone anyway.

This was the response from my TA when I mentioned people keeping it.

"It seems like the rule is that as long as the dates fall within the original dates offered and the room is available that they will transfer the offer."

Hope this helps!

I even told them that I read online where others were getting to keep the free dining. I was so nervous as every time I asked in the last few days I was immediately shut down. It was getting to someone in guest services that had the power to do something about it that made the difference for me. He didn't have a problem working it out for me at all.

Unfortunately, I think Monday's too early. Irma's still projected to be going over Florida for some of Monday, and MCO will need some time to assess damage and get things back up and running. I think Tuesday at the earliest.

Hi. You don't know me, and I don't know you, but we've both been member of DIS for a long time. I live in a house West of Orlando...can see WDW fireworks from my driveway, and am only two exits west of the Celebration/Disney exit on I-4. Anyway, if you need a safer place to be, you are welcome to come here. We have a generator at the ready, tarps to cover windows, you name it and we probably have it. Seriously, moved down here 8 yrs ago and this will be our first experience with a hurricane. One son and girlfriend live near Colonial Drive in Orlando and are coming here to ride out the storm. Other son works at Universal and his apt. is 15 min. from there. He and his gf are also coming here. Better to be with other people than left all by yourself to deal with it. The tropical storm winds are supposed to begin on Saturday and just continue to worsen through Monday. Please PM me or post here. Lynn

For anyone trying to find the most up-to-date info on Irma, the site in this link is excellent. The guy takes ALL weather info and consolidates it in one place, plus goes live around 9pm each night to explain all the graphs, etc. Stay safe everyone. http://spaghettimodels.com/

You are so kind to offer a safe place for someone you don't even know. I hope you and your family stay safe!

I would not expect the airport to be open until at least some time Tuesday, and it will probably be Wednesday or Thursday if the track stays the same. They will have to wait for the storm to leave, then assess and fix any damage before planes can come in.

Hi if the path stays the way it is the worse of the storm will be Sunday night into Monday. They are projecting a possible cat 3 or 4 hurricane to possibly hit that area. My personal opinion if that holds true is that there will be so much surrounding damage it will take several days to maybe a week to get running again. The airport will probably not reopen till maybe Tuesday. Good luck

5 Hours? Did you ever get thru? You are a trooper. I would of NEVER waited that long. A few said they cancelled right on line. Maybe try that?

Be thankful for no music. Six hours of it is hard to take. I was on hold the other night with out music for hours and still got through. Hang in there!

Won't they have to inspect everything inside Disney/airport/surrounding buildings for damage? I would suspect that would take a while.

So glad you are heading over. You have to protect the little ones, although I imagine Rolf is getting pretty big now! Hugs to you all from us Loungers. Be safe!!!

Aw, thank you! RoLf just turned 17-months old! He's walking and talking and thinks the word "no" is a hilarious suggestion!

We haven't found anything at WDW yet. We've found rooms for Saturday night, and rooms for Sunday night, and rooms for Monday night - but nothing for all three. My parents are visiting from England right now, so with them and us and the kids, we need space for six. We've managed to find rooms Tuesday to Thursday, we might book them just in case we have no power (or no roof...) but we might end up riding this out here.

Our house is only five years old, but I'm suddenly noticing just how many windows it seems to have. They are all hurricane-strength (I don't know if that means much, they just have stickers on them that say that!) but I do worry about the front door and our three sets of French doors. Tomorrow will be spent taking down my son's swing set, and moving all of the garden furniture indoors.

So I had two reservations in the MDE now only one old one is showing and not our new resort/dates. Should I be worried?

Disneys website is always flaky. Even more so under stress like this. As long as they gave u a confirmation number you'll be fine. It will eventually show up. People earlier canceled their ressies and they were still showing up for hours before going away

Right. I don't mean to come across negatively to anyone here, but - I am honestly fearful for everyone. This storm is one for the history books ... the way the tracking is, it's very, very unnerving. I feel that if this monster continues on the way she is, there is going to be major damage, state wide. :(

Please stay safe everyone! I pray that the Disney bubble doesn't pop under this pressure.

After 6.5 hours on hold, I got through and rearranged our 2 reservation trip in 5 minutes. Those CM are fast! Instead of going to AKL from 9/9-9/16, rebooked from 9/13-9/20. Kept everything the same with no additional cost. Now I have to rebook flights. Hoping MCO is good by the 13th.

So I finally ended up talking to a CM in guest services after about 6 hours on hold. His name was Ricardo and he was very very patient and kind!! It took quite a while to work things out because the system was going very slow, but he stuck with it! He worked all sorts of magic for me!!! He honored my free dining and was able to work us into the wilderness lodge and I ended up with a small refund too! I am almost glad I listened to the America song 50 times because it worked out so well. I am so glad I saw on this thread that guest services was doing that for people! Thanks everyone!!! We are going 9/15-9/22 so no way Jose! You better stay away!
I hope they still have some of that pixie dust for me! I have been on hold for guest services for nearly six hours hoping to convince a CM to let me keep my free dining plan. I'm hoping just to come in on Tuesday rather than Sunday since my flights were cancelled and to add a few more days on the back side. I heard the following week is supposed to be very nice. So glad your patience worked for you! I will continue to listen to winnie the pooh, the haunted manision, and america song and hope for the same results

You are not coming off as negative. At this point the forecast is more narrowing and what you say is very possible. I agree with you on all counts.

I was wondering that too. I fly in September 16th. I would think Disney has an army to check and repair everything.
