12 gallons is huge...and not sure if it's legal to fill such a large can with gasoline.

Also, do you really want to be transporting/storing almost 90lb of gas while traveling? :)

I have a large one like that, but it's too heavy to move when it's full. You have to fill the five gallon and then use those to fill the big container. We used to use it when we had four cars and people working so we would be able to get to work afterward. But it's cumbersome to use and take care of. It is empty right now, since I have a hybrid that's full and won't need another fill for a month. I don't need gas for a generator and don't want the risk of that much fuel in the garage.

They were just showing some people evacuating from south Florida on TV and one family was filling six five gallon cans to take with them on the road so they wouldn't run out. I understand the sentiment but I'm not sure I would want that in the back of a pickup in the event of an accident during an evacuation. I definitely wouldn't want to be hauling it in a car trunk.

Many gas stations are starting to enforce filling only the vehicle you are driving. No gas cans, no boats, etc. Some even have law enforcement monitoring the situation along the evacuation routes.

We're flying from Nashville to Orlando on Tuesday. Do you think it will be clear by then? Just hoping our flight doesn't get canceled.

I think everyone is hopeful that Orlando International will be back up and operational as quickly as possible. In terms of Historic comparisons the airport closed for Matthew and opened 32-34 hours later. For Charley (2004) I believe it was a bit longer, somewhere between 24-40 hours. For Frances (2004) the airport closed at noon on what appears to be Saturday and re-opened very early Monday morning (based on an article about Frances from the NY Times).

Charley did the most damage and the airport was still able to resume operations quite quickly after ensuring the safety and stability of the buildings.

All that being said, we can't know for sure, which seems to be the status quo with this storm.

Pilot just said we have a one hour delay before taking off to Orlando. He's going to wait by runway incase he gets the go ahead to go earlier.

Orlando might be clear but Nashville could be feeling the effects then
Really the only way Nashville will get anything is if it takes the more Western path, which will also mean a more direct hit on Orlando, or put Orlando on the "dirty" side of the storm, so things may not be good in Orlando then. With the current more commonly projected paths, here in E. TN we are barely going to be getting scraped by the edges on Tuesday. So possible for Nashville but probably, if Nashville has rain on Tuesday, things may be pretty poor in Orlando.

Those of you driving INTO FL through Georgia and around Savannah be aware there is now a mandatory evacuation for Savannah (Chatham County) and east of I95. They will also be starting contraflow away from the coast, starting Saturday morning at 8am on I16. http://www.wtoc.com/story/36303728/gov-nathan-deal-issues-state-of-emergency-for-six-ga-counties
Thanks for the heads up! Looks like they will be doing contraflow on I-16
GDOT

I canceled my ticket for the Mnsshp on the 10th last night and they didn't offer me those options they just canceled it for a refund. (Probably because this just went into effect). Do you think if I called back today I could get the 1 day parkhopper since we intend to go back later this year now?

Sadly since many of us do not live in Orlando, we have to depend on these news sources to help us make a decision. It's sad when a newspaper that has been around since 1847 (170 years) and the local FOX station publish bad information. The page is still view able with FOX, hopefully they will take it down.
It is very troubling that their local Fox station hasn't taken down the bad information

Does anyone know when the next GFS run is scheduled? I keep getting them all confused and no longer know which runs when. And this is way more than I ever hoped to know about hurricane tracking!

It just ran at 12pm. It still appears to have the eye graze the Miami area. The EURO will be running in the next 15-45 minutes.

I'm not sure. Since the refund is already in process I doubt they will do it

I am hearing people talk about the hurricane stretching 400 miles. I take that being a measurement in diameter. That would mean it is 200 miles radius from the eye. The outer edges of the hurricane are going to be much tamer than the eye wall. Orlando is roughly 75 miles from the coast? If the hurricane can just stay slightly off of the coast into waters, I don't think Orlando will get anywhere close to the 185mph winds that are being recorded and will be able to slide this mess. With that said, I still do not want to be in Orlando, or anywhere close to a hurricane. It will still has the ability to take a life. I just think Disney will be okay. I am praying for Miami, the keys, and everyone further south. I'm sure they are taking it serious. It's just not worth a life.

this was already clarified a couple of pages ago.
At the moment the current forecast shows winds at around 80MPH to 120MPH for Central Florida during the point where the eye will be closest to Orlando

My friend that lives in GA by the boarder to Jacksonville FL posted this to her Facebook a little bit ago. It is from the Governor of the state and states what areas are being evacuated. It also states that one of the highways will have a counter flow of traffic. If you are driving please be careful.

https://gov.georgia.gov/sites/gov.georgia.gov/files/related_files/document/09.07.17.01.pdf

To add to this ..........

- This means if you were planning to stay in hotel along 95 in Georgia, high odds your hotel will be in evacuation zone.

- This means LOTS of folks who live along there are being evacuated and will be on the road.

- This means minimal gas available.

- This means LOTS and LOTS of traffic since there are minimal north/south routes and only a handful of east/west routes.

- This means ALL LANES of I-16 will flow West ONLY. Gates come down and block Eastbound.

- This means if a path north is expected this will expand to SC.

- This means if you MUST travel north go 75. And it will be painful.
