Very good point. The airport will likely remain open as long as its facilities are intact and safe take off and landings can be made. The consideration for them is the safety of their people so there will be minimal crew around.Airlines may well cancel flights but that wouldn't have any direct relation to the airport itself shutting down and ceasing operation. Two different things.
If you want a current list with updates on what is closed/cancelled/changed here in Orlando, go to http://www.orlandosentinel.com/weat...do-closings-cancellations-20170905-story.html to view the list. OIA has not announced a time or date for changes other than the error put out last night.
Sadly since many of us do not live in Orlando, we have to depend on these news sources to help us make a decision. It's sad when a newspaper that has been around since 1847 (170 years) and the local FOX station publish bad information. The page is still view able with FOX, hopefully they will take it down.
Don't be sorry, I'm glad the posting is wrong, not for me but for everyone else flying in. When the Orlando station had the same posting on their website, I took it as most likely true. I'm sorry for the bad info...
I have been on hold for 2hrs and 40 minutes so far.... But it was easier to get in line for guest services by "asking a question at the beginning" of the phone call versus waiting for hours for resort reservations and then getting transferred. (which I really couldn't get anyone to do the last few days.) Maybe this will help someone needing to get to guest services. I'll let you know if they were able to help me or not.
I would skip on to the airline directly and see how you fare.Since the CM told me she can't touch my flight info and put me on hold it's been over an hour, I'm starting to think she forgot about me. I'm currently using another phone to try calling in again while keeping this call on hold at the same time.

after I posted that I did see on the closings site on the orlando sentinel someone posted that it mention AA cancelling flights. thanks and thanks for your info on rain and flooding!Airlines may well cancel flights but that wouldn't have any direct relation to the airport itself shutting down and ceasing operation. You inevitably want to hang up but then don't want to lose your place. She will come back have faith.Since the CM told me she can't touch my flight info and put me on hold it's been over an hour, I'm starting to think she forgot about me. I don't rely on my local station for national or international news. I go to the source. Unfortunately MCO's website had wrong information on there last night that was corrected earlier this morning.Sadly since many of us do not live in Orlando, we have to depend on these news sources to help us make a decision. We're flying from Nashville to Orlando on Tuesday. Do you think it will be clear by then? Just hoping our flight doesn't get canceled.
Orlando is not Houston, nor is Florida a swamp. We will not experience storm surge here, and we don't have rivers, canals, and bayous like the Houston area does, and we are at about 70 feet above sea level here. The amount of rain forecast is nowhere near what was in Texas. Florida also has engineered stormwater drainage throughout the state to handle our rainfall. The stormwater ponds must be designed to hold rainwater runoff for a minimum of a 25-year storm event. Many of the lakes and canals inland our linked via control structures, which can be opened to let water run further south into the Everglades and Florida Bay. SFWMD has already opened the locks on Lake Okeechobee to drain water, and they will subsequently drain some of the lakes down up here to be able to handle water. Flash flooding is something that will happen in low lying areas, and overflow of areas near the St. Johns River may occur north of Orlando, but we have seen massive 100 year storms in the past (Fay 2008) that did not cause widespread flooding damage in and around Orlando. If we get the dirty side of the eye, then wind damage to trees, structures, and power lines is much more of a concern than flooding. The coastal areas and Miami may have to deal with surge and flooding, but not very likely here.
