Hurricane Irma?

Airlines may well cancel flights but that wouldn't have any direct relation to the airport itself shutting down and ceasing operation. Two different things.
Very good point. The airport will likely remain open as long as its facilities are intact and safe take off and landings can be made. The consideration for them is the safety of their people so there will be minimal crew around.

The airlines are the ones that will probably decide to cancel their flights into MCO. Its best for people to check directly with their airline.

Since the CM told me she can't touch my flight info and put me on hold it's been over an hour, I'm starting to think she forgot about me. I'm currently using another phone to try calling in again while keeping this call on hold at the same time.

Sadly since many of us do not live in Orlando, we have to depend on these news sources to help us make a decision. It's sad when a newspaper that has been around since 1847 (170 years) and the local FOX station publish bad information. The page is still view able with FOX, hopefully they will take it down.

Don't be sorry, I'm glad the posting is wrong, not for me but for everyone else flying in. When the Orlando station had the same posting on their website, I took it as most likely true. I'm sorry for the bad info...

Yeah I would check Orlando International Airport's website and twitter. We do know of the error (at that time that is) in putting up the notice about closing. I indeed saw it too on Orlando International Airport's website. Soooo many media outlets across the nation picked up on the announcement. Heck a few hours ago if you Googled "Orando Internation Airport" you would get links to news sites with the announcement.

Honestly this is one where it was put up on the airport's website, media took notice, then probably didn't think to keep checking to see if things had changed. Slowly this news is being corrected but clearly a person just simply searching for the airport would come across at this time conflicting information--which is why going to the airport's official website and twitter is the better choice.

I am taking a screenshot ONLY so you can see what I mean. I don't doubt that all you were trying to do was listen to what information you had been told-it's what many of us would do anyways:

The circled news story is newer and has more accurate information as of this exact moment but clearly the others do not. A few hours ago I searched and the 3 top stories still had the airport closing at 5pm Saturday. I understand where you were coming from.

I still expect an annoucement and very possible closure but for now it's normal operations. Flights however may be cancelled by the airline.

I have been on hold for 2hrs and 40 minutes so far.... But it was easier to get in line for guest services by "asking a question at the beginning" of the phone call versus waiting for hours for resort reservations and then getting transferred. (which I really couldn't get anyone to do the last few days.) Maybe this will help someone needing to get to guest services. I'll let you know if they were able to help me or not.

I'm pretty sure this is what I did the last time I had to call GS. Waiting on hold is a given right now, but at least you shortened it somewhat.

I would skip on to the airline directly and see how you fare.

We're flying from Nashville to Orlando on Tuesday. Do you think it will be clear by then? Just hoping our flight doesn't get canceled.

I just wanted to add some information to this thread that may be helpful for some.

1) My brother and his family live in Houston and got out via Southwest a day before the hurricane hit. They flew to Boston where we have family. They all took advantage of 2 free suitcases allowed. Their luggage did not make it on the flight and what they received the next day was a pile of suitcases that were drenched with water, very damaged, and with totally unwearable clothing. Call it foolish but they did pack some mementos in ziploks which were ruined. They do not fault Southwest for the damaged and wet items. What is important to note is what Southwest instructed them to do with the damaged items if they wanted to file for compensation. They wanted receipts for the clothing and other belongings and before and after pictures. My sister-in-law didn't have the first two requirements. **So, if you are flying into a storm area on Southwest, it may be a good idea to lay out what you are packing and take photos of those items as well as of the luggage itself.

2) My early 20's daughter lives in the most flood-prone area of New Orleans. The first week in August delivered torrential rains and she has a first floor apartment in an old house. She walks to work in the French Quarter and was wading through the streets when she finally got home. I decided to order her a number of critical flood related items through Amazon 2 day Prime delivery on August 4th. As of August 31, the items were never delivered and inquiries showed that they hadn't left the warehouse/fulfillment center. On Sept. 1, I finally got an Amazon supervisor on the phone who told me that a huge amount of their stock is shipped from the Houston area fulfillment center so many people did not receive their orders throughout the country. When Harvey was hitting, Amazon continued to send items to this particular fulfillment center which didn't make sense to me. The agent suggested that in the future, I should avoid ordering items that are being fulfilled in disaster locations(how would I know where the items were being fulfilled?). Not a very helpful suggestion. I guess my tip here is not to count on anything that is being ordered for Irma relief to be delivered at the stated timeframe on your Amazon receipt. I learned my lesson, and of course the fine print does not promise any delivery date which I should have paid attention to.

Good luck to all travelers and those living in the affected areas. I can't imagine how difficult a time this must be.

You inevitably want to hang up but then don't want to lose your place. She will come back have faith.

I don't rely on my local station for national or international news. I go to the source. Unfortunately MCO's website had wrong information on there last night that was corrected earlier this morning.

Orlando is not Houston, nor is Florida a swamp. We will not experience storm surge here, and we don't have rivers, canals, and bayous like the Houston area does, and we are at about 70 feet above sea level here. The amount of rain forecast is nowhere near what was in Texas. Florida also has engineered stormwater drainage throughout the state to handle our rainfall. The stormwater ponds must be designed to hold rainwater runoff for a minimum of a 25-year storm event. Many of the lakes and canals inland our linked via control structures, which can be opened to let water run further south into the Everglades and Florida Bay. SFWMD has already opened the locks on Lake Okeechobee to drain water, and they will subsequently drain some of the lakes down up here to be able to handle water. Flash flooding is something that will happen in low lying areas, and overflow of areas near the St. Johns River may occur north of Orlando, but we have seen massive 100 year storms in the past (Fay 2008) that did not cause widespread flooding damage in and around Orlando. If we get the dirty side of the eye, then wind damage to trees, structures, and power lines is much more of a concern than flooding. The coastal areas and Miami may have to deal with surge and flooding, but not very likely here.

thank you SO much for the info.. we changed our arrivalf rom tues to wed. my son is telling us we are selfish because we will be taking resources from locals who will need help and putting first responders and rescuers at risk, just so we can see a mouse. (he obviously is not a disney person) he' smaking me feel guilty and doubting on choices to not totallycancel.. I thought we did the prudent thing by lopping a day off the beg. of the trip.

If you get a magic your way 1 day ticket plus parkhopper can you then upgrade later to a 6 day ticket?
