Hurricane Irma?

WHOOOOHOOO!!!

Where I live we could be dealing with hurricanes and snow storms. It always baffled me why people go so basic when they could be stuck inside eating more fun food.

This thread sure has gone down a rabbit hole since I last checked 25-ish pages ago. Still not sure what I'm going to do. I'll probably decide tomorrow. But I am still sticking with wanting to help each other.

We deal with snow storms as well and I always wondered why people got bread and milk . . like are you making bread and milk soup???? We always go for veggies and fruits when we are stuck.

We leave tomorrow night. I'm waiting until last min to cancel. We can't reschedule. 8 of us going and I called to check for later dates and none were available for that size. I'm pregnant due next April so won't be able to take a trip next year and we are bringing my mother in law into live with us that has dementia and needs 24 hour care in oct. This trip is now or years from now for us. Praying for a turn and safety of all.

I'm not checking in until 9/16 but I'm sort of leaning towards cancelling. It is room only so I believe I have 5 days to cancel. When I spoke to wdw yesterday they said to decide by the weekend but I didn't ask for the exact day for the right timing. Do you think it would be on Sunday (since they said the weekend) or Monday? Also, can you only cancel by calling WDW? Thx

ugh, I feel for you guys having to decide. If it were me I'd wait until the last possible second to cancel altogether - I mean if you are going to get money back regardless, might as well wait to see what happens. If you can go, great! If not, you still get your money back.

Good luck everybody!
Thanks! For us, we have APs and just popping into Disney on our way to and from the gulf beaches. We can get our flights cancelled with Southwest and have a credit, but our house rental would be thrown away. I just said I'll wait until tomorrow, but honestly, I'm hoping things look good enough to at least make it later in the week. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone living within Irma's path.

We rescheduled for the end of October. They were very helpful and even transferred our Halloween party tickets. Praying all is fine by then. Praying all stay safe and sound in the path of the storm and that it turns out into the ocean!

I live in Winter Garden, about 25 minutes from WDW. My local Publix was all out of water exactly seven minutes after it opened today so naturally, I bought wine instead. They were also out of bread and peanut butter, so we bought chocolate chip cookies and Nutella instead. Priorities, you know.

If you're driving into the area in the next few days, I wouldn't count on being able to buy anything here. If you can bring supplies with you, do so, and get gas as far out as you possibly can.

if you're going 9/16 I wouldn't cancel at all

I agree, there seems to be quite few know it alls but they really do believe what they're saying. They have experience. But their experience may not really be the same as yours. They mean well.
Yep. Except I really haven't seen anyone on this thread I would say is a know it all. What you are seeing here is essentially a hurricane/Disney wiki. This is real time collective knowledge based on a variety of people's expertises and experiences. As participants we all need to sort through what is important and what is not to us.

If you (one) does want bread, and also has power, and water, bread flour and dried yeast don't get grabbed up as fast as loaves of bread, plus they keep longer.

That's great they could move you! People keep saying they can't get any rooms for October so I was wondering if anyone would be able to transfer their reservations.

Welcome to my month- don't bring any hurricanes with you! ;)

I would wait. If you booked with WDW you deal with them. My preference is to ask for guest services, they seem to know what they're doing. If you booked with a travel agent you have to deal with them.

Moving from FL (canned soup and bottled water for hurricanes) to NC ('bread and milk') has been really confusing for me. No, I don't get it either.

How long is your trip?

It's funny you say this the other day I was thinking "Why don't I just make bread if they are out of bread at the store" but then it dawned on me I might be out of power, but yesterday I said to myself "Self, your gonna want hot food instead of just PB&J, why not get a little smoky joe, the storm will last last a day or two, if its a week with no power you can cook outside" So I bought a little grill and charcoal and fluid. Now I'm wondering if I can bake bread in that little grill.

Gonna have to go do some internet research :)

Called at 701am. On hold one hour. CM said they are giving 7 day grace period from arrival date if trip impacted by hurricane. Trip was Sept 8 to 16. I cancelled with no penalty fee.

It hasn't occurred to me to buy milk - I thought the point was to buy non-perishable items? Although I did buy a gallon of chocolate ice cream...
well if your power goes out, Fridge items go bad after about 4 hours, so if you have no power I hope you stock up on ICE :)

Thats good to hear! My TA keeps making a big deal about not cancelling yet because their is no Warning out yet. But I was like, would you just ASK please?

It's good to have Adapt, Overcome & Survive skills.

The Thursday before Harvey, I was in Austin. When I left to drive to Houston the forecast was ...tropical storm dumping around a foot of rain in the Houston area. When I was driving, the TXDOT signs had warnings like "STAY AWAY FROM COASTAL AREAS". Not good. When I arrived (2 1/2 hours later!!!), Harvey was a hurricane about to become a major hurricane and we were now supposed to get 30-40 inches of rain. And we all know how that turned out.

The moral - just because the wobble is looking more to the east does not mean that you should head down there right now.

As a planner, I feel for those of you having to cancel things. But - as someone who grew up in the coastal South - do not mess with something like this. People have been posting that they will just order groceries and have them delivered to their hotel. This will not happen. Gas? Not going to be easy to find. People worried about their dining plan - which restaurants are still going to be opened and serving? And none of this touches on the danger that you are sending yourself and your family members into. It does not take a direct hit to cause real problems.

Would I head to Florida now? Only if I had a family member who was stuck there and alone. That's it.
