S/O..have you ever had a thread go south on you?

Yes. When I was first here about 7 years ago, I dared to suggest that Disney consider having varying ticket prices for varying times of year. I practically had my head bitten off for that.

Most of the time my threads go south.

In particular my irrationally bothered thread. I asked posters what things bothered them that were irrational like me despising clapping and fake wood. Very few posters did this and instead wrote things that bothered them that were perfectly legit. I cried buckets of big salty tears over that.

Another was in regards to my favourite pair of jeans (RIP) and the urgency just wasn't recognised :sad2:

I'm sure there are plenty more examples. I rarely post threads anymore because I feel there is too much of a language barrier between the DIS and myself and I can't get to the US more than once every 18 months or so to practice.

@kimblebee wasn't that epic thread you speak of the one you told us about? The one that was not only locked but deleted. I wish I could have read it ;)

Yes, that was THE one. I was fairly new to forums at that point and quite naive. I'm a grizzled veteran now and won't make that rookie mistake again lol

I remember the thread about your jeans. I know I had sympathy - I was devastated when you threw them away. I have separation issues. ;)

I got piled on for wanting a flower arrangement and not a bouquet of flowers I have to arrange myself. I know, I know - I should be grateful, its the thought that counts, yadda yadda. I'm just really bad at arranging flowers.

Another thread bump reminded me--I've had one WORD go south.

There's a thread about Hamilton where I mentioned it takes a lot for "fiction" to make me cry. I was using it as an umbrella term for musicals, movies, television shows, books, etc, and wow, people really don't like it when you use that word about Hamilton. (They're confusing "includes historical events" with "documentary".)

Every time I get a new alert on the thread I just sigh.

Hamilton is about as historical as 1776 or The Sound of Music.

I wasn't even trying to make that point, I was just typing fast and the word "fiction" came to mind before "drama". People went after it like chum in a shark pool, heh. (Some of my favorite books are extremely accurate/well-researched historical fiction! Because once you start guessing what people who have been dead for centuries were thinking or feeling at a given moment in time and then putting those words into their mouths ... you are writing fiction!)

(If this thread becomes the new Hamilton argument thread I'm going to be so sad.)

Yep, my most recent train wreck thread was about my elderly FIL with dementia issues still working in a job that involves care for the disabled. I'm the hateful, nosy DIL that lives far away and hates my FIL. As an update, he did recently end up leaving one of his patients at Walmart and ended up on probation but still has his job.

 He needs to not be employed any more. I could tell from that thread how much you cared.

As a whole the DIS has been a fantastic resource with invaluable information. But there are bits and pieces where I'm not shocked at but it has me almost sad when some posters just take things too far. I'm all for a good discussion and I'm not really easy to offend. I'm not all for tearing into someone whether you agree with them or not. We've all probably bit a bit too harsh on someone (even sometimes when they well not deserve it but you know) though and I'll absolutely admit that I've been too harsh on someone when I shouldn't have been in the past.

The threads I tend to see go south faster are:
Political
Weddings
Parenting and along with that family (seems to be mother-in-laws in particular)
Anything to do with a stranger's behavior (not downplaying this at all but a disability is often brought up)
Disney-related in terms of castes (type of resort, add-ons, etc)
Disney Dining Plan
Sometimes stuff related to school (school projections, school expectations, school breaks, etc)

I'm trying to think if I read a thread that I can remember that seemed harmless to be but went all sorts of south but I'm blanking but I know they are out there.

Jeez. :( Sorry.

On another (pretty salty, mostly female) anonymous forum I'm on, I posted a mini rant about how my sister wouldn't buy my niece a laptop for college. (There is some context here, including the fact that my sister typically dotes on my niece, but hates technology.) My sister and I are estranged. I mentioned in my rant I wanted to buy my niece a laptop partially to annoy my sister (and obviously so the niece would have a laptop for college!)

This really rubbed people the wrong way. I don't remember why, and honestly I don't *understand* why or else I never would have posted it (and I would probably remember why I got flamed). I think maybe people took it as me bragging about being able to buy a laptop? Or maybe just one of those things where anytime you interfere with other people's parenting it causes WWIII. I really just thought new college students *need* a laptop at this point?

Maybe I'll get flamed again now to remind me. :)

But generally I never, ever post rants, or post asking for personal advice. Either way you will get flamed by some percentage of responders.

The Internet brings out the absolute worst in everyone now and it makes me incredibly sad. We are a nation of trolls behind screens. I'm occasionally guilty of it myself, but I'm trying to be better.

I actually support your decision of wanting to annoy your sister that way. I think it's funny and you're also helping your niece.
