First names you would never call a child of yours?

There aren't many that would be on my never would I name my child that list. One that comes to mind is Adolph Hitler.
Years ago there was as story about a couple who named their child that.

My peave is this trend of intentionally misspelling names to make them "unique and special." Then becoming indignant when no one can spell them right on birthday invites.

And then there is my name, spelled correctly if you were in Ireland where my mother was born. I have had some really rude people ask me if my parents couldn't spell, etc. Just because you (the general you, not you specifically) are ignorant of a correct international name spelling does not make it wrong!

Interesting, Georgina seems the correct way to spell it to me. What would others think it should be?

Names of any ex of mine or DH's.

I have a kid with a different spelling. She has the Greek spelling of a name that became uber popular in the states after we named her. Greek uses and "f" States uses "ph."

Hmmmm
I'm just not into oddly spelled names or offensive names ( mentioned by someone above) ... and I'm not sure I'd use a name that may embarrass my child/ren later in life,
... perhaps like ...pieces of fruit....

I know of siblings who were all named after flowers ( daisy, rose...others were months..April June etc... and a boy named Jack Daniel)

But, To each his/her own.

My father swears he went to school with a Jack Haas. So if my last name were Haas, definitely not Jack.

Definitely none of the top 10 names for either girls or boys from 2016.

My 13 year old DD1 name is on that list and has been most of her life yet due to the cultural makeup of our community and schools has always been the only one with that name in her class. She has run into others at extracurricular activities but never at school. I thought it would change this year that she started highschool but it hasn't. Either way it doesn't seem to bother her yet.

I on the other hand hated my non popular " old lady" name growing up. Now DD2 has one. Lol.

I'm going to choose my words carefully here, because undoubtedly several DISers have named their kids these names, so please don't take offense. I'll list the names I don't like in categories.

CATEGORY 1: "Trendy" names: Mackenzie, Mickayla, Emily, Colton, Weston, Connor.
CATEGORY 1A: Unusual spellings. Kyleigh, Emmaleigh, Gynnifer.
CATEGORY 2: Thurston Howell's Frat Brothers at Yale: Braxton, Bentley, Dunlap.
CATEGORY 3: Common Biblical Names: Matthew, Luke, Sarah.
CATEGORY 4: Obscure Biblical Names: Hezekiah, Gomer, Josiah.
CATEGORY 5: Your Grandparents' Names: Herkimer, Flossie

If Mrs. Homie and I had had kids, we'd landed on Elias William for a boy (we'd have called him "Will") and Holly Grace for our daughter (we'd have called her "Grace"). And yes, we named our hypothetical children Will & Grace.

My two year old daughter's name is Sarah-I love her name :)

I'm not a big fan of when parents dress up the spelling of simple names with too many "y"'s & "eigh's" & "ees"

Just curious, why wouldn't you call your kids by their first names?

"Elias" and "Holly" are both meant to honor people in our lives. "Elias" is, of course, Walter Elias Disney (who died four years before I was born, but you get the point). "Holly" is the name of a woman Mrs. Homie and I were friends with in college, she died in a car wreck the year after I graduated/she dropped out.

However, "Elias" is a little too much on the "Obscure Biblical" side for mine and Mrs. Homie's tastes, and "Holly" doesn't work with our last name. So we decided we'd go with their middle names. Keep in mind, this discussion was made over much "medicine," if you get my drift, and many laughs. Anyway, about an hour after we landed on calling them by their middle names, it dawned on me that we'd named our hypothetical kids "Will & Grace." We laughed about that for a solid ten minutes. But we're sticking with Will & Grace, even though we don't, and won't, have kids.

Depends on the last name, but yes, I'd exercise extreme caution in naming a child Richard. Years ago, I met someone named Richard Pound. Imagine the jokes on that one.

Dick Pound is a very well known Canadian. He was twice Vice President of the IOC. Wasn't there a Dick Trickle who had something to do with racing?
