DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Nice job there, skippy.
Never done 50s PT or Mama Melrose....
DW is an Italian that makes sauce from scratch days in advance all fresh & garden grown ingredients, home made meatballs etc. and we really enjoy Mama Melrose plus as Norm said, as a Fantasmic! Package getting a great seat with no wait doesn't hurt either. 50's has. "shtick" where your waitress is like a 1950's mom including yelling at you for not eating vegetables or purtting elbows on the table. Food is traditional fried chicken, meatloaf, pot roast type of dinners and is pretty good.
What a crappy day. For those not on FB, on my 61 of 70 miles to campus, I got in a car wreck. It was the other guys's fault, his jeep slid on a wet road into the back of my car. The muffler was smashed into my tire, so I had to have it towed back to my local body shop. Now, I get to deal with the insurance company and wait.
Sorry Norm but glad no injuries, at least you seem like no injuries. Take care.
So, DD16 has a part time job at the local supermarket, she usually gets about 2 shifts a week (10 hours) but lately they have only been giving her one, which is not enough to put gas in her car (part of the deal when I bought the car is that she was responsible for gas). She's been looking at other options. She's also theatrically inclined and got an audition with a company that provides princesses for kids birthday parties. She hasn't auditioned yet but she's worried a second job might be too much. She is auditioning to be Elsa. I told her to try it but if it doesn't work out she would have to let it go.

I'm just giving you a chance to let that one sink in. I thought it was an epic dad joke. She did not really share my sentiment.
But seriously, I told her to audition and see what happens. School comes before it all, so as long as she can keep up with her studies, I'm fine with it.
I agree that school and the grades are most important. Received some input that we and several other of our friends found to be really good. When your kids are in HS, if they are involved in activities and pulling A's and B's and things like gas and car insurance can be covered, have the kid stay focused on keeping the good grades and using time researching and applying for scholarships instead of working part time. We were able to do this route and both kids have earned so much more in scholarships than they would ever have made working PT (though both have worked some PT) and saved us a good amount in college expenses. i know everyone's circumstances are different but just passing along something to consider.

Morning boys, from a drama free London. All the Northerners are losing their minds buying up bread as there's about 4 inches of snow coming. Down here its a balmy 7 degrees. To put it in geographical perspective, "The North" is about the same distance away as some of you guys would drive for a really good taco.

Mad day at work yesterday with board presentations etc, so today kicking back a little and filling up the Disney spreadsheet. Looks like we're coming out in late July.

Oh, and West Ham's best player is "doing a TO" and saying he doesn't want to play for us anymore. So he can do one. Good job the transfer window is open.

Norm, hope you are feeling OK this morning, and there's no damage to you.

Off to Birmingham tomorrow for 1 meeting, so might be calling all out early tomorrow chaps. Assuming that you all leave when I give the green light (which you absolutely should) it might be that your morning cup of coffee may be left half drunk. See you in the bar.

Have a magical day, bacon and pixie dust all round.

London out.

That sucks. Glad you're ok and I hope they can get you back on the road quickly.

All that setup just to go there. We're proud of you.

I love 50's PT. So much fun. Good fried chicken, too.

Is he doing sit-ups in his driveway?

Morning from balmy Fredericton, about 7 degrees and raining here.

I didn't know West Ham had a best player. ;)

:rotfl2::rotfl2: Ah the memories.

Just checking in today and Happy Friday Eve to everyone and hope you are doing o.k. Norm.

Have a good weekend if we don't hear from you and enjoy the trip planning.

It makes me appreciate the fun and camaraderie of this group. Prayers, pixie dust and positive wishes for those who need it.

Hey Andy,

Your guy Appleby did a nice job against Iowa if you look past the first couple of series. He was also a real team player and a class act throughout the season. I wish him well in the future efforts.

Hope things are well with you and the family.

Cheers for that CJ, will hold my trusty remote at the ready to skip through the ads.

Let me know if you think it was worth watching.

Glad you are OK. Really sucks about the car, may it get sorted out quickly.

Well played sir. Giving you a standing O.

I compare Momma Melrose to an Olive Garden quality restaurant. You are going to get good, consistent food. I love '50's. I like the shtick and the food. Usually end up ordering the fried chicken or sometimes the meatloaf. That and an adult beverage makes for a great lunch in the parks.

What a difference between now and then. They grow like weeds.

UPDATE: it's snowing. Birmingham trip is going to be fun tomorrow.

Stay safe, we need you to make "The Bar is Open Gentlemen" call.

I don't know how people drive in the snow over there, but if it is like the idiots around here... well good luck.

I watched a lot of LSU and Florida this year. Appleby really was a class act and I was glad to see him get another shot with a strong program. Maybe not NFL talent, but he's not a bad QB... and it's like I told you a year ago, he didn't have a coach that could work with him to help him learn and grow. He had some of that this year and some talent around him. I think it says a lot about our coaching staff when they bench guys in 2014 and 2015 that then go on to be starters for 2 SEC teams in the top 20 in 2016. Thank goodness Hazell is gone.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Jeff Brohm can do with our offense. We've got a running back that has All-American talent if he had a line that could open a hole. We've got a 1 1/2 year starting QB coming back with a couple of really good underclassmen that could challenge him for the job. He's already brought a few OL and WR recruits in. They've got a lot of work to do to rebuild that dumpster fire, but I feel like he's on the right track on getting the offense rolling.

Now to see if he can build a defense... Might be a lot of 50+ point shootouts if his tenure at WKU is any indication.

DOUBLE UPDATE: Snow stopped. Pathetic amount.
Not going to talk about the weather here.
I was talking about this earlier when we had a full fire evac from our building, freezing our nuts off, mentioning your comment that you might even have to close the windows. Saving the clemson game for one of those nights when I just wake up, as I don't think DW would appreciate 4 hrs of college football, she just about puts up with march madness.

Sounds like we have a frontrunner for lunch at DHS, thanks fellas.

Cheers Andy, but I get the train to Birmingham. I can get some proper work done without someone standing at my desk or calling me over into the shop "just to have a look" at something that takes up an hour.

Hey, the name of the page changed!? Was that you Randall @Cinderella's Fella ? I like it. I guess it makes sense now since the threads don't close after so many pages (I was never on the old boards long enough to remember much about that).

The only thing that would be better about that thread is if it was started during DDCCV. Then we would know the culprits! :rotfl:

Yeah, saw that on FB. Not fun. At least it wasn't your fault, but still a pain to deal with insurance and the repairs. Hope you're feeling OK.

Is there? Dang, I must have missed that one. I did catch rope drop at Epcot years ago (I think they stopped doing them, right?). Does that count?

Same here. I was a bit hesitant with Mama Melrose because I had read mixed reviews as well. But it was fine, one of the few meals all week that the whole family enjoyed.

Thanks. Felt physically fine, but everything caught up to me later. I had been standing in & out of the rain for 2 hours and finally realized my socks were wet about 4 hours after the wreck.

Rope drop counts where you did it. We have done each park, but their shows are different.

As for your daughter working, I gave up playing tennis in HS to work to save $ for car & college. I never had a chance to make the pro tour, but I was good enough to have played at the college level and been a club pro. I wish I had tried that route.

As for your attempt at Elsa humor, let it go. :lmao:

Glad you are OK Norm.

So you are saying you wouldn't freeze her out.

Thanks.

And just as bad as Wednesday was, today brings some great news. I got that other job I applied for back in December - 20 hours a week, benefits, and the pay I wanted. And, I get to keep my two week vacation already booked in June. Life is good today.

Thanks. No injuries, other than the bit of adrenaline surge & recovery afterwards.

I didn't know your wife cooked Italian like that. I might park the camper in your front yard on the way to CJs for a good meal like that. :lmao:

Oh, and West Ham's best player is "doing a TO" and saying he doesn't want to play for us anymore. So he can do one. Good job the transfer window is open.

Norm, hope you are feeling OK this morning, and there's no damage to you.

London out.

Thanks. Doing well. Sorry to hear about the West Ham TO. Still, when TO pulled out that sharpie from his sock and signed the football, it was hilarious.

That sucks. Glad you're ok and I hope they can get you back on the road quickly.
?

Thanks. Going to get a rental today. The Tumbler (Aztek) still runs, like a tank, and driving in 150 miles a day won't be great. The irony is that if I had been driving it, it would be likely the other guy would have just bounced off and I would keep driving. :lmao:

I didn't know West Ham had a best player. ;)
.

You know, when you taunt, you'll get it back a lot worse.

Just checking in today and Happy Friday Eve to everyone and hope you are doing o.k. Norm.

Thanks for checking. It was a full day yesterday.

Glad you are OK. Really sucks about the car, may it get sorted out quickly.

I liked the schtick at Whispering Canyon Cafe, so 50s PT would be fun. We just have great local fried chicken - not KFC- but my wife makes an awesome meatloaf and fried chicken. So, it's difficult to go there. We usually do Sci-Fi because it's so cool inside. Food was better at Mama Melrose. Best place at DHS is still the Brown Derby.

Wahoo I am official!

I still haven't received those dues of 830 dole whips. :rotfl:

I'll get them mailed to the rest of you as soon as they arrive.

Stay safe, we need you to make "The Bar is Open Gentlemen" call.
And here it is. Last meeting cancelled. That's it. Work over. Everyone out. See you all in the bar in 10 mins. Mine's a bourbon sour with triple sec.

Have a great day chaps, and French connection is right up there with the great escape IMHO.
