Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

:offtopic:

On this Turtle Tuesday, I am home for the second day with a sick child - it is snowy and cold outside, and I would like to do some Disney planning for my trip which is just a short 98 days away. I'm in double digits, people!

Given that's it's Easter week and that is new territory for me, plus my traveling companions - one who is a Born-Again-Newbie-Excited-as-a-Kid-in-a-Candy-Store and one who is Conference-Weary-Over-Disney-Just-Going-for-the-Sister-Thing, it's a bit of a struggle to balance things, although we've planned in such a way that people can opt in and out of things fairly easily. I feel like there's some things up in the air that may or may not be available, but I'll have to accommodate them if they are - and I know that some the hours/EMH are going to change and I have a feeling even the things that are nailed down are going to change. I feel like I'm having a hard time strategizing for such a busy time because I'm still missing info, but I can't control that so instead I will come here to the lounge to write nonsensical posts. I know that we're going to have a blast and this is just how it goes, but that's just where I'm at, so I guess I need to just do Disney dreaming instead of planning! :thanks:

We are also going at the same time and I feel like I'm having a hard time planning. I have a few ADR's booked but I keep changing them. This will be our 7th trip since 2013 but our 1st during a holiday(we pulled them from school for a week in September for a trip and I can't pull them again in the same school year). I'm not finding a lot of info about Easter time at Walt Disney.

I feel your pain! I've been reading every Easter thread I see, and one minute, it makes me feel better, than I'll see a post and I'm like, "Aaaaarghhh!"":crazy2:

I sound like a broken record, but it's the FPs that are really perplexing me. We a mid-day break people, and I feel like we will be this time around too although it's an adult trip. So usually, we do late morning FPs, so we can get additional during the afternoon/evening, but this time of year, that doesn't seem like a great strategy, maybe? Just get evening ones? My sister doesn't want to be "overscheduled" so stick to mid-day???

Just got email ............. and when I started it, I immediately got kicked out for my age.
WOW, that sure was insulting.
I should have put my heart's age.
What happened to "imagination has no age" and "growing up is optional" ...........
Well it was their loss because I could give them some really good ideas. :snooty:

Yeah I would promise to spend that $75 my next trip.

I love Figment, especially this happy painting figment. I assume on has to be present to purchase? Won't be on the disney store website?

Thanks, @HopperFan - I needed that!

I'm not sure, @Tiggerette? Is the festival stuff typically available on the Disney store website - like F&W or F&G?

Comments on the Parks Blog ...

That passholder shirt is very nice. I wonder if any items will be available for purchase on the Shop Disney Parks App.

  • @christopher – I’m not aware of any products being offered on Shop Disney Parks app at this time.

I will also say that I think there is this deal Disney has with artists that their art with Disney content can only be sold on property. I have a collection of Larry Dotson prints, and he said he can only sell there. He will appear at shops every few weeks or special events. He'll be in Norway for this festival.

I really wish that I was going to this!

There really seems to be so much excitement about it. I never got down for the Masters or whatever they called the art festival at Disney Springs that ended with the construction. I love that it's art, music, food .... FIGMENT. I have a feeling it's going to be a HUGE hit. So we have Arts .... then Flower & Garden .... then summer .... then Food & Wine ... then Holidays. They have found a way to keep Epcot full and busy .... now they need to get to paper and pencil and decide what it's core future will be.

I think it will be great - I love that they have different artists there!

Well all know that no planning and thinking you can just show up is a recipe for disaster and misery for most.

We have APs and we can go often so MUCH LESS pressure. But even that, going with minimal plans, minimal ADRs and even (2 weeks out with no FP+ right now) works because ............ having years of experience, knowing it inside out, knowing the restaurants, the queues, etc by heart ......... allows us to make on the fly decisions that are successful.
Yep, I agree...we don't live close, but we've been there often enough to know that if we skip Toy Story Mania this trip, it'll still be there next trip.

On our trip after Thanksgiving, we made sure to do down-time every afternoon, and return to the parks for dinner...since my travel buddy snores (!!!), I didn't get much sleep - she now has a CPAP machine, so hopefully our next trip in the fall will find us both rested! Often, I'd just give up with the nap, and tell her I'd meet up with her at the park at a certain time, then try to find a quiet place to sit and relax and people watch for awhile...

I've found over the years, that it's so important to get that extra rest in, since our usual habit is to hit a park at rope drop, and stay up fairly late...if we didn't try to rest in the afternoon, it didn't take long before we were walking on our tongues....

AK hours just got extended for most of February. Not a big change (7:00 -> 7:30pm for the first half of the month...7:00 -> 8:00pm for the latter half), but across the board? Maybe an evening show is being added :flower1:

I'm not that optimistic. I think this was just a normal adjustment of hours for the next month based on crowd projections and whatever other factors Disney considers.
