DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

They won the semi-final easily and then tool down the previously unbeaten, #1 ranked, cross-town rival in an OT thriller 96-91 in the final. DS played 44 of the 45 minutes, had 17 points, 13 rebounds and 6 blocks. The tournament namesake told him he was the best defender on the floor; that meant a lot to him.

Hey! That's great! Good for him!

That's often been said about Winnipeg. ;)

I can't argue.

Playing the proud Dad card. This was was picture with the online article in our newspaper tonight from DS's game. He is the one in the white and I think this was from one of his blocks.

Play that card, dude. Nice shot.

Consider it over now… goodnight over there.
Yep, was tucked up and snuggly at this point, when they went to 13-31. Although it makes a lovely numerical palindrome. But that's not worth staying up for.
Playing the proud Dad card
Good job to the DS, Darcy, and as @pkondz said, nice pic.
there's a tube strike in the morning and its gonna take me about 2 hrs+ to get in
Good prediction. 2hrs 30mins. I'm a blue collar guy at heart, and really do get unions, but the drivers are on about £60 grand, with one of the best pensions known to man. The underground is London's central nervous system, we can't function without it. Bad darts.
Might have a cheeky wager on NY by 3.
Bad prediction. 28 point swing. Good job I wasn't spread betting. I would argue if OBJ wasn't a Beleiber I might have won that one, as he seemed to choke on a few key plays last night. Hey ho, that's a fiver that I won't see again.

Have a great day chaps, from a disrupted London.

Thanks, they were all pretty pumped last night.

Are the drivers on strike or just slowing things down?

Dude. Insurance or no.... if the doc says do it.... do it.
$$$ or life. Pick one.
.

Disagree. Cost me $350 for the MRI about my knee, not including dr appointment which was another $100. The dr recommended surgery which was estimated to cost more than $5000. I'm still playing tennis and only out $450. It's not always the way to go.

Evening boys from a frosty London. Garden tidied and ready for the inevitable rain, kids partied, George and DW Rogue One'd, and 4 miles ran. Had some awesome 28 day aged hereford rib of beef with some greens and sugar snap peas. Watching the playoffs. Bought the 4 international NFL games today, so that's something to look forward to in October. Except one of them is the Browns/Vikings.

.

Well, Vikings may get starting QB back so it won't be as bad a game.

Afternoon gents. Sorry for thos down at DaWorld that had the marathon cancelled. Did a bit of a Christmas reboot with a turkey dinner and just the 4 of us and Inlaws yesterday which was really nice. Kids back at school today which believe it or not really sucks as it was a great holiday break with them around. Watching NFL playoffs today, is there gonna be a good game? Wind chills have been 0 / single digits this weekend and we actually a few inches of snow on Friday which is still hanging around on the ground. Have a good Sunday and to those at the convention - cheers!
.

Yeah, with one back-up/benched starting QB, one 3rd string QB, and one back up QB, and one QB with a hurt finger, what did you expect. Don't know what the excuse was for Eli & the Giants.

this one should be good. Might have a cheeky wager on NY by 3.

Didn't we have a wager on that one? Send my winnings.

Good game for him. Congrats again to the proud dad.

Happy Monday morning. This week brings another 140 mile a day round trip commute to campus. :sad2:

On another note, first HS tennis practice yesterday. Oldest dd surprised me and decided to play on the team. She's not any good, but maybe she will let me work with her. However, girl drama team politics are raging. The team consists of two twin juniors who are decent players. Then, I rank my 7th grade daughter the 3rd best based on what I saw yesterday. Not too be overly praising, my oldest dd was tied for the worst. However, in this girl drama politics, the coach is allowing other mommies to make decisions, and they are ranking my kid much lower because they want their other junior/ senior players to play more. DW told me to let it go. I just hate this crap.

I get unions and am respectful and appreciative of the roll they played in our society. However, with all the laws and regulations that business owners have to comply with, I don't see the essential nature of unions as was once necessary. But, when it comes to negotiating pay & benefits, it is nice to be represented.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Wow, get to book Fastpasses tomorrow for next trip sure does make getting over the Holiday trip easier. Since I am not a Facebook person, anyone know how the boys are doing down there?

Major congrats to DS and the proud Dad - play that card whenever you want to.
:rotfl2:Well played

Not sure if any of you are aware, but Saturday was the last day of the train station Welcome Show at MK. A new Welcome Show is at the Castle Forecourt Stage. We heard about this change when we were down there and glad we got to see the Train Station Show one last time. Not sure about this change, as you will now be able to enter Main Street as a "staging" area before park officially opens - kinda anti-climatic. Something about the opening show and then heading into the park with excitement and seeing Main Street with the Castle. My guess is that there is some type of additional security screening planned and they are gonna need room?

I thought I read there was some work being down on the train station and this would make it difficult to do the opening out front. I hope it is only temporary because there is nothing like making an early ADR and walking up the empty Main Street.

Well, Vikings may get starting QB back so it won't be as bad a game.
That's a really good point. I hadn't thought of that. The other games are Dolphins/Saints, Jags/Ravens, and the Rams/Cardinals, so a bit of a mixture. Its a really nice atmosphere, as everyone supports different teams, there's always a good bit of banter. Unless the bears come out of the blocks 4-0 by the time the games are over here, I imagine I am going to get some stick, as everyone wears their own teams jersey.

ut, when it comes to negotiating pay & benefits, it is nice to be represented.
Agreed. But when you are paid a wage that many people would jump at the job for half the salary, they really don't do themselves any favours.

Didn't we have a wager on that one? Send my winnings.
Yep, I'll send it with the 1/817th dole whip I still owe. I bought the whip when I joined, it doesn't look too clever now.

but Saturday was the last day of the train station Welcome Show at MK
anyone know how the boys are doing down there?
I think one of the guys put it up on FB, from the DDC. They seem to be having a whale of a time, some have started to leave.

Are the drivers on strike or just slowing things down?
Walked out from Sunday night until 1800 on Monday, so that's pretty much today up the wazoo.

Not sure about this change, as you will now be able to enter Main Street as a "staging" area before park officially opens - kinda anti-climatic.

They do this in Paris. Its really confusing about lines etc, as you never know when they are going to open the gates. Also if you don't have EMH you can get into main st, but not into the lands, so if your a newbie it looks like its closed. I agree with you, through the gates and BAM, magic commences.

It's like any other large group of people. There are pros and cons. On the good side, it's good to have a watchdog making sure workers aren't being exploited. On the con side, it seems like they defend the bad apples and lowest common denominator rather than championing the good workers.

I can't argue with you there. But if your knee explodes into a cloud of blood, I win, okay?

So... you're saying two hours tops.

Wow, get to book Fastpasses tomorrow for next trip sure does make getting over the Holiday trip easier.

Yeah, that would sure as heck help!

Since I am not a Facebook person, anyone know how the boys are doing down there?

I am on FB... but barely. I keep seeing posts though. So I know they're alive. From the bit I have seen, looks like a pretty good time.

Well... that sucks. I skipped it last time I was there in favour of getting closer to the front.

Afternoon from the Boardwalk. Most of the guys left yesterday with Randall, Jodi and a few others leaving later today or tomorrow. A quick update on the last few days. In short, a good time was had by all.

Bit of a pain driving up Friday. After little sleep, I left a 5am and dense fog followed me much of the way. Felt a little tired so I pulled off to cat nap and finally got up here around 10. Friday night was the bar crawl. We started at Jock's had a couple there and some munchies. The weather started to turn so at the Boathouse most of us decided to beat the rain and headed out. Needless to say I was dead tired. Unfortunately I gave DD and her roomie the bedroom and I was stuck on the pull out couch. Terrible sleep the whole weekend.

After canceling the half, a few of the guys that didn't need to get up at 3, decided to instead play at the party room. Heard but did not witness large quantities of libations were consumed but no one was seriously wounded. Saturday came the Ohana dinner. The mood at the pre-meet was subdued, I think because of the Friday night consumption. They had a huge table for dinner and I think the Gulf of Mexico was emptied of shrimp.

Sunday was Marathon day and there were no casualties to report from our runners. I know Paul ran a very good time and Andriana also did well. She was a few minutes away from making her goal but seemed to be satisfied. While they were slogging it out there in the course, a number of us trekked our way to Kona for our annual breakfast. I was a little disappointed in the food, not hot at all and they were off on the home fries. Last night, Randall organized a dinner at Cape May for a few of the stragglers. We met them at Martha's vineyard for a couple of drinks and said our final goodbyes.

Finally got some sleep last night (or rather early in the morning). Felt much better but the pull out is doing a number on my back and posterior. Did a quick trip off campus to gather supplies for the game tonight and had decent Mexican for lunch. About to go check out the scene at ESPN.

I am so glad that I decided to he11 with it and drive up. It was great seeing old friends and meeting some new guys. Had a fun time here. My only regret is that I missed the BBQ on Thursday. That looked like it was a party. Also would allowed more time to catch up with everybody.

Thanks for the update and sounds like a great time and good to see you made it since you are one of the staples of this thing.

And so people can get their Starbucks. When are they opening another one across the street at the Emporium? :lmao:

Yep, I'll send it with the 1/817th dole whip I still owe. I bought the whip when I joined, it doesn't look too clever now.
.

See, you are supposed to mail me 817 dole whips. I eat one, and mail 816 to the rest of the guys. It's a terrific ponzi scheme.

I can't argue with you there. But if your knee explodes into a cloud of blood, I win, okay?
nt.

Sure, you win. :lmao:

It's nice to know that I have partial tear of the meniscus and arthritis in my knee. It's better to know that while it's not going to get worse (the tear), it's not going to get better without the surgery. So, as long as I can still play tennis without major levels of pain, then I'm saving the $ for beer.

Needless to say I was dead tired. Unfortunately I gave DD and her roomie the bedroom and I was stuck on the pull out couch. Terrible sleep the whole weekend.

Male roomie? Yeah, that's never going to happen for either dd, until they are married. They can sleep on different couches in different rooms. Get off my lawn!

She has never had a male roommate and no, that wouldn't happen under any roof where I am residing. It was her college roommate from Seton Hall and Seton Hall is definitely against co-ed rooms. Very close friends who hung out with each other since day 2 of their Freshman year.

It was a good decision on my part. They had a blast together, had one day running around the parks and I did not have to go out at 3 am to go with her to the pre race. Well worth the dinner I bought her at Trattoria. I told her she has has open invitation for next year if she wants to come down. She may even run the half.

In short, a good time was had by all.

That's about all we need to know right there! :)

Unfortunately I gave DD and her roomie the bedroom and I was stuck on the pull out couch. Terrible sleep the whole weekend.

Well, considering they're paying for the room, I suppose that's fair.

They are paying for the room, right?

Right?

The mood at the pre-meet was subdued, I think because of the Friday night consumption.

:rolleyes1

While they were slogging it out there in the course, a number of us trekked our way to Kona for our annual breakfast.

I'll take door #2, thanks.

I was a little disappointed in the food, not hot at all and they were off on the home fries.

Well, that sucks. I've heard such good things about Kona.

I guess if you know what it is, it's not going to get worse and you're not in pain.... makes sense.

My guess is that there is some type of additional security screening planned and they are gonna need room?
That's what it seems like to me too. They have been doing come construction near the ferry dock. It all seems to point to changes in the way they allow people into the park.

I thought I read there was some work being down on the train station and this would make it difficult to do the opening out front. I hope it is only temporary because there is nothing like making an early ADR and walking up the empty Main Street.
I wish it was only temporary because that's one thing I thought about too, early morning ADRs and empty Main Street. But I fear that's a thing of the past. Between the additional security requirements and (I'm sure) a desire to have people wait in an area where they can spend money, I expect it's a permanent thing.

Glad you could make it. Sounds like it was a great time for all involved.

Doesn't look temporary - new security process implemented today.................

Well, that's a bummer.

And so people can get their Starbucks. When are they opening another one across the street at the Emporium? :lmao:

Makes me glad I got the empty Main St. photo with my wife on my last trip. That was special, and I think the arrival of the train is what really made the opening show special. Without that, it's just another show.
