DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Evening fellas, from a cloudless and therefore freezing London. Back from the football. With the raging hump. I'll let Darcy explain....

Can you translate into American? Bubble and squeak?
Where I grew up was pretty poor, and Bubble and Squeak was the traditional boxing day dish with leftover veg from the Christmas day dinner. Boil up some potatoes and cabbage together until ready for mashing. While thats doing fry up some onions, sprouts and bacon cut into small pieces. Mash it all together with loads of butter salt and pepper and stick it in the oven for about 30 mins. Its the food of the gods, and reminds me of my grandparents. I don't know why its called that.

And send me a cake
I'm in. I need the carbs.

Stayed next door at Beach Club. Great location. Great theming. Captain's Grill has excellent meal selections, Yachtsman's Steakhouse is a great choice, and I really like the Ale & Compass Lounge (they also serve food).
Thanks mate, we are thinking of it for the second leg of the Florida Pilgrimage, we would like stay close to Epcot. Poly is the front runner on the first part.

The pool looks awesome though.
Agreed.

Both girls back in school, while we get one more day off work.
My girls get one more day, they are back tomorrow. It's going to be a rough morning for them (especially the youngest) after staying up late over the holidays.

Reminds me of my grandparents too. There's a lot of colonial tradition left in Newfoundland, especially the food (in case you were curious, my avatar is our provincial flag which is deliberately very similar to the Union Jack, which actually was our provincial flag until 1980). Growing up our Sunday dinner was roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. On Monday my grandparents and often parents would fry up the leftover potatoes and veg in much the same way, but they just called it hash, and I don't think they ever put it in the oven.

Back from the football. With the raging hump.
That reminds me of that girl in university again...oh, wait, you're probably talking about something different....

Happy Monday. Both girls back in school, while we get one more day off work. I played tennis this morning and then went grocery shopping. Stop the fun now. :lmao:

Another week here before school heads back, same for my office.

Dan spent a few hours in a cold stadium watching his team, West Ham, get beat by Man U. I'm sure there was some attempt at drinking in the warmth though.

Is that the whole story there fella? Should it not read "Dan saw his team get dry humped by the ref and then get beaten by Man U?" :-)

I will admit there was some drinking. Didn't help with the warmth though, the beer was freezing.

There you go, 2 myths shattered about the Brits in one year, we utilise the dentistry profession and beer is served cold. My work here is done.

Off to work now in the frosty fog. Kids back to school and nusery this morning.

Have a great day boys, as we all enviously watch the dads have the large one at DDC. Hope to make it some day. London out.

Snow. It's official. I hate that *#$&(^#$ stuff.
Shoveled another hour today before work. Have a couple more hours when I get home.

DD19 starts up school tomorrow, but DD16 doesn't start until the 9th. Weird winter break this year. Oddly enough, she's not complaining.

Morning Guys,

Finished all our Fast Passes this morning for the March trip, now only 60 days away!!

We are all still off this week, just more basketball to attend.

Looks like the early DDC arrivers are having a good time. Have a good one.

This one works great!

'Morning all...
And a wish for a fine New Year to come for each of you.

I've been just a bit preoccupied and have missed much around here.
Back on a regular work schedule now, but...
I'm also swamped with year end and a few unexpected problem so I'll be missing even more around here.

Y'all take care and I'll try to get back over here when I can.

Hey Rob. Happy New Year.
Swamped and unexpected problems.... the two do seem to go hand in hand, don't they?

Happy Tuesday. Temps started at 56 and will continue to decrease until snow tonight. Yeah, KY weather. Back in the office today to install new versions of Outlook. Once again, work for the week is finished.

That sounds absolutely terrific. Don't get the name, but sounds great.

....

That sounds good as well. I caught the tail end of my grandmother's cooking. She was on the decline towards dementia and her cooking declined. Still, a few good memories.

Looks like your translation was off.

Happy New Year, fellas! I had a very nice week off doing absolutely nothing. Insert state worker joke here.
.

So, another typical week for you? :lmao:

There are days you don't do anything at all. Yeah, they're called weekdays. :lmao:

I thought you were getting a snow blower, which prompted a good run of jokes, like what is Elsa's side job?

Good luck surviving the swamp.

Now that's funny.
Yeah... a blower is in the works.... trying to find one I like is proving to be a bit of a challenge, though.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Really sucks being back at the office less than 24 hours from being at DaWorld. First for me as I normally keep a day between returning home and going back to the grind. To the Dads at the convention, have a great time.
And second question, do the countries in World Showcase celebrate the new year in their respective time zones?
Yes except for those that hit midnight before park open
Anyone stayed at the Yacht Club? Any good?
Been to Beach Club so basically the same. Great location, great pool, good restaurants and you can also walk or boat to Studios over the buses.

Saw some questions about being manageable during our visit (between Christmas and New Years Day). Answer is to us it is manageable and we do not find it bad like some say it is. My guess is those that go for their first or second visit during this time are the ones that would suffer the most. We accomplished just about everything over a 5 day period with middle day a down day with only 4 hours in MK. I think if you have been there, make dining reservations and wisely use FP+ and rope drop it ain't bad and the decorations, extra shows, different holiday experiences make it doable. Disney is well prepared for the crowds with extra staff at quick service locations, ques re laid out to handle crowds (Soar'n), cast members manning choke points keeping people on the right sides of walkways, extended hours, etc. Her's some of the early pics I could not post as intended

Afternoon guys. Had a good day yesterday and the Gator win didn't hurt.

Anyone stayed at the Yacht Club? Any good?

Stayed at BCV a few times but not YC so I can't comment on the rooms. It is my favorite summer resort with a lot to do with Stormalong Bay. On a down day I went there early and grabbed a table. Spent the day lounging by the pool, reading a book. Great way to relax. The kids will also love the pool. You have quick access to EPCOT and DHS, and easy walk to Boardwalk with ESPN and nighttime entertainment. Lots of great food options including Beaches and Cream and the places Norm mentioned.

I've been just a bit preoccupied and have missed much around here.

Oh man, that really sucks.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like you guys had a great time.

You know... you're right.
If you're a newbie, you'd be hopelessly overwhelmed. If you know a few things (FPs especially) then.... While everyone else is bleating about the long lines, you're busy riding.

Thanks for coming through! I knew you guys wouldn't let me down.

Good to know. I can't see myself ever wanting to be there between Christmas and New Years, but it's good to hear that it can be done if you know what you're doing.
