Nothing A Little Sangria Can't Fix! A Thanksgiving 2016 Dining Report update 3/21 MK eats

Now I totally need to try Cape May for dinner, as I've only had breakfast there with the characters. Those never ending crab legs sure look yummy!

Finally made my way over.
Cape May dinner looks delicious! I'm totally with Chris when it comes to ribs. Mmm, Mmm, Mmm! Glad there were enough non seafood options to enjoy. I've never heard of a s'mores parfait. That does sound like quite the dessert.
Can't wait to read more reviews

Hi Tammy! Glad you found me
Definitely try that grapefruit beer, it's great and I think in the warmer weather it'll be even better.
Are you ready for the holidays? My sister and her boys arrive tomorrow so I'll have an extra 4 people in the house for 8 days :scared1:

Yes finally ready other than having to work the rest of the week :sad2:
Looking forward to going to my other DD Emily's house and spoiling my 2 precious grandkids Nora (4) and Owen (10 months).
Enjoy your family Merry Christmas

Hey hey hey!! I'm so late, but glad you had a great trip!! I'm sure some Mom & Chris time was tons of fun.. he is so stinkin cute. Do you guys have any trips planned coming up?

This is adorable.. love the matching shirts!!

Yay!! It is the BEST.. i could go for one right now (yes it is 2:14 PM on a Tuesday...)

Wow, this looks pretty good! I'm not a big buffet person but it's great that you found so much non-seafood-y stuff that you liked. My mouth is watering at that strip loin.
Hi Ashley!! How's married life  First let me apologize for not directly quoting here, my quote feature hasn't worked in months and I can't figure out why  But I'm glad you came over! We actually do have our next trip planned an it's another adults only so yay! We're going in May - how about you? You're so close now, you should be going all the time lol!
Thanks on the shirts. Steve picked them out in JCP and I thought they were.......ugly :P But he was so excited about them and I was happy he was excited about a Disney shirt, no way was I telling him what I thought!
I don't care if it's 12:14 pm on a Monday, ANY time is good for a Schofferhofer! I'm all stocked up for Christmas :thumbsup2
Steve isn't huge on buffets but they work well for the kids. And I'm glad there was enough for me (and Chris) at Cape May, because I hate not being able to try a restaurant b/c there's nothing I like on the menu.

That's it. I'm putting Cape May dinner on the list for next next trip (June 2017 is too full...lol). I am a HUGE seafood lover so I am there. And since I hope to stay at BCV or BWV that trip, we will be right there!

The breakfast looks good, as well. And I mentioned on your TR that we (the boys and I) loved the slushies at MK...but I'm a total slushy kind of gal. We have several Mickey straws at our house now!

Excited that you got the DR started. I've been crazy busy with this being the last few days before break so I this is the first I've been on to really check out my watched threads. I need to read your TR, too. So I am headed there now. But I may have to finish tonight. Gotta make a Walmart run....ugh. :)
Ha! I have a list of where we need to try next time (and go back to) and I think it covers our next like, 3 trips! But yes you should definitely try it, especially if you enjoy seafood. And it'll be super convenient if you're at BW or BC!
I'm so mad we ended up accidentally throwing out about 5 Mickey straws and came home with only 1. Have to be more careful next time......
I hear you on doing all the last minute holiday stuff too, I'm STILL not done shopping, or baking, and definitely not done cleaning! I have 18 people coming on Christmas and then 15 the day after. So is there really any point to cleaning :rotfl2:

Hey, thanks for coming over! My sister feels the same way about the crab legs picture :D Seemed like just about everyone in the restaurant was there for the crab legs lol! I'd like to try breakfast too at some point if I can talk the boys into the characters

:wave2: You'll have to put Cape May dinner on your list for next time :goodvibes I'd never heard of a S'mores parfait either, although I've heard of other S'mores type desserts. And while I do like marshmallow and graham crackers and LOVE chocolate, S'mores aren't something I gravitate to but on a buffet, why not try whatever you want? Boy, so glad I did, because like I said it was out of this world good.

Yes finally ready other than having to work the rest of the week :sad2:

Two more days of work for you, right? And tomorrow is my boys last day of school before break. Enjoy Christmas at Emily's house with your grandkids! Didn't know you were a grandma :goodvibes My sister and her boys arrived from Ga. tonight so the party has begun here! Merry Christmas!!

I'm in. Love Schofferhofer :drinking1:drinking1:drinking1They go down nice and easy,
:welcome: They most certainly do go down smooth! I think I'll be making a beeline for one on my next trip! I found them around me but everything tastes better in Disney ::yes::

Married life is fun!! Busy with the holidays coming up. I have talked Justin into going as much as possible HA! We are heading down for MLK weekend, leaving after work Friday & coming back probably around 3 PM Monday (it's about an 8 hour drive). Looking forward to reading more about your dining adventures.. enjoy your time off with the boys and have a Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas to you too! We did MLK weekend last year, just Steve and I, and we had a great time although it was unseasonably cold. Hopefully it's warmer for you guys. I wish we were only 8 hours away, very jealous of that!

And boy did that Sangria go down easy! Welcome to my 2nd dining report covering our 2nd Thanksgiving week trip to the World. During our visit we had good food, good fun, and good adult beverages. If you haven't followed any of my previous reports, let me do some quick introductions:

This is Us (fantastic show BTW!): myself, Ariane, my DH Steve who loves to eat as much as I do, our oldest son Ricky 14 and our youngest son Chris 11. Chris and i arrived in the World on 11/19 with Steve and Ricky joining us on the 22nd due to Ricky's basketball schedule, and we stayed until the 26th. Since I came down with a horrendous stomach virus last year on Thanksgiving day I was excited to finally be able to EAT a holiday meal in Disney!

I'll get to my first food post soon, but I've been promising to get this started over on my TR and wanted to get moving :car: The non-working link to said TR in my signature if you care to take a look. Thanks for reading along!

COMING UP: BEACH CLUB MARKETPLACE AND CAPE MAY CAFE!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HANUKKAH!!
I hope all of you celebrating had a wonderful holiday (or start to your holiday) this weekend. Hopefully now that it's winding down I'll get my posts up quicker!

Capt. Grille breakfast

Our first full day in Disney! Normally I'd have us up and doing RD somewhere but back when all 4 of us were coming down at the same time, I'd planned to have us sleep in a bit since we were getting up at 3:15 the day before. I kept that part of our plan for Chris and I since he sleeps even later than Ricky on non-school days, but I changed up our ADR's.
Originally I had lunch at Mama Melrose booked; we haven't eaten there in a few years and while it doesn't get consistently good reviews, I wanted somewhere in HS (our park of the day) and we had a good meal there last time. However Chris is more of a breakfast person like I am, and he wasn't thrilled with the menu at MM. So when plans changed I showed him the buffet menu at Capt. Grille and asked if he wanted to eat there instead - his answer was YES! I've seen reviews of their breakfast buffet and I was pretty excited to try it.
Our MM was for 1:00 with a planned park arrival of.....sometime after RD and before 1 :D I made the Capt. Grille for 10:00 but we were up so we headed over a bit early. I was also looking forward to seeing the Yacht Club lobby holiday display but sadly all that was up was a smallish tree:

We walked through again later in the week and it still wasn't decorated.
We checked in for our ADR about 15 minutes early and the waiting area was jam packed! I couldn't believe it since I've often read you can get in without a reservation. The CM told us they were currently running about 20 minutes behind and may not be able to seat us early but they'd try, so we took a seat in the lobby. About 15 minutes later I got "the text" so we ended up being seated right on time anyway :thumbsup2
As soon as we got our drinks - apple juice for Chris and everyone's morning staple, a diet coke for me, we hit the buffet running. A few mouth watering pictures for you:

3 kinds of Fritatas and breakfast potatoes

Bacon, sausage, Disney's fabulous bread pudding, and another type of sausage? I did really bad at writing down what everything was but I know there was turkey sausage so one of these is probably regular and one is turkey.

Had to get a shot of the Mickey waffles! Scrambled eggs, close up of one of the fritattas, and bananas in a sauce that again, I have no idea what they were for. The bread pudding? But why then isn't it near the bread pudding?

Grits, biscuits, and gravy.

I also did bad at getting shots of the pastries of which there were many. As I mentioned before it was very busy today and each time we went up there were lines, so when I took these pictures I was kind of sneaking in and out of people and getting some weird looks. I finally decided enough was enough and what I had would do!

Our first plates, Chris's:

Hard boiled egg, fritata, Mickey waffle, scrambled eggs, seasoned breakfast potatoes, biscuit
The three fritatas were this one which was a cheese and onion one, the chef's fritata which was some type of seafood with tomato on top, and another which had spinach, tomato, and some other stuff. He loved this, it was hot and tasty. He also loved the breakfast potatoes as they had onions and peppers in them like the ones we had yesterday from the Marketplace although in the picture you can only see one pepper sticking out :) The rest he said was very good, he got the biscuit b/c of the one at the Marketplace and he did say the one there was a little better.

Mine:

Mickey waffle, fritata, bread pudding
Loved it all! I agreed with Chris on the fritata, it was so hot and fresh tasting! Sometimes buffet egg-things can be cold. The bread pudding was goooood, however I will say the best one so far is still Boma's french toast bread pudding.
We went back and got more although I was kind of full and Chris said he didn't want to fill up too much and feel yucky in the park:
Mine:

Another fritata, bacon, and breakfast flatbread.
I did get more bacon but I ate a few pieces before I remembered to take a picture :rolleyes1 The flatbread was delicious and different from what I've had at other buffets around property. It was bacon, scrambled eggs, white and yellow cheddar cheese, and onion jam which really made it stand out. Chris wasn't a fan but I definitely was.

Chris's:

Very simple: bacon, more seasoned breakfast potatoes, Mickey waffle. He also got more bacon, as in like, 8 pieces, and a huge pile of potatoes, but again it was a few minutes before I remembered to take the pictures.
We were SO full after this! Our server had been very good but it took her awhile to bring us our check so we got to sit and digest. Funny little side story: Chris's allergies had been acting up so he was taking Advil cold and sinus. However I had to cut the pills in half for him. The studios only have plastic cutlery, so at dinner the night before I cut a couple pills and at breakfast now I cut about 10. At one point our server came over and noticed all the empty pill wrappers on Chris's dish. She looked at them, looked at him and then at me, and said, "um, are you guys both feeling ok?" I didn't realize at first why she asked so I said yes thanks, and she said "are you sure? there's an urgent care close to here and you can get picked up for free if you need to see a Dr". I was so confused! Finally I glanced down and started laughing hysterically and explained to her that I hadn't drugged my kid nor myself. Even though you could see the word "Advil" on the empty packets she looked really relieved when I explained myself!

With our check paid we headed for the HS walking path to exercise off some of our breakfast. We both enjoyed our meal; I don't think my pictures really did it justice but they had more choices than other buffets we've done minus Trails End weekend brunch and everything was fresh and hot. The restaurant isn't loudly Disney-themed, it does have a quiet nautical theme and I liked it. Also very convenient if you're at any of the Epcot resorts and fairly inexpensive at $18.99 for adults and $10.99 for kids, which Chris is not!

UP NEXT: SNACKS AT HS AND DISNEY SPRINGS EATS!

Looks like Captains Grill may be worth checking out. Those fritattas looks and sound delicious, but where is your bloody mary :-)

Just (finally) found your dining report ::yes:: Awesome start!

Cape May looks good, but I can honestly never see us eating there since none of us are seafood fans. If I am making a trip to the BC to eat, I'm headed straight for Beaches & Cream!

Can't wait to read more!

I knew you were going to say something about that :P Actually when we first sat down I was looking at an advertisement they had on the table for some drinks, including the Bloody Mary. Chris said, "are you getting alcohol with breakfast???" and he didn't sound happy about the idea. I was really, really trying to keep him happy so, I gave in. But don't worry, I made up for it at dinner :thumbsup2
And yes I think at some point you should try Capt. Grille for breakfast. I think Steve and I are going to try the Wave for breakfast, based primarily on your reviews of it!

Ha, I make you work to find it! Although just tonight I figured out to get my links to work  Only thing is you'll notice the "updates" are also in the links lol, so when I feel like it I have to fix that.
I didn't think we'd ever eat there because I don't eat any seafood and Chris doesn't either. But I wanted to try it, and staying at the BC it was just so convenient, and when I originally booked it I knew we'd have an early night based on our really early flight so eating dinner at our resort made sense. I am glad we tried it! We didn't do Beaches and Cream this trip and it was very hard walking by all the time because I do love their food, not to mention the ice cream :goodvibes

Great pics going to have to try Captains Grill in the future :thumbsup2
That's so funny about the pill wrappers :rotfl:
Yes I'd definitely recommend it! Just don't attempt to cut drugs at your table lol or you might get questioned by your server

Finally found my way over! :cool1:

More ribs, kids pizza, strip loin. You can see his beef is more medium than mine was and that was perfect for him. He liked the pizza, too. He ended up getting a 3rd plate with MORE ribs but I didn't take a picture. The kid loved those ribs!
This is my buffet plate in a nutshell :rotfl2:
The marshmallow top was sticky and tasted like a toasted marshmallow; then came the graham cracker part and then a chocolate mousse.
this sounds amazing!!!!

Too funny!!!

Excited to be joining in! I love reading about holiday trips at Disney! I am hoping to make it there sometime for one - but all my family seem to love to come to NYC for the holidays...maybe next time I will just leave my keys and head down south!:rotfl:

We are staying at YC on our upcoming trip and now I want to find a way to squeeze Captains Grill in for breakfast - I love a frittata!

On a different note - I remember you said your DH works for Starbucks...please let him know that somehow I just discovered the Gingerbread Latte - and am afraid that I will go into withdrawals now that the holidays are over! :(

I have no idea how I missed that you'd started a dining report bit I'm so excited to have found it!

I'm glad you liked Cape May even though you don't do seafood. I also thought there were plenty of options for non seafood eaters. And that s'mores dessert!! Yum!

I've never really thought about Captain's Grill but introns like a great low key breakfast option. I think that's why I like the Wave so much. It's got a great buffet and it's quiet. I wake up slowly so a noisy place first thing in the morning is no fun for me! Mickey Waffles :cloud9: I could have a dozen of them!

Looking forward to more!

Disney breakfast buffets do two things exceptionally well, and that's frittata and bread pudding. Yum!

I saw lots of people with those slushy things at MK when we stopped to get our citrus swirls...they looked good and I debated about getting one. I'm glad to know they are worth it. They have a pina colada one that intrigues me as well.

I'm glad you and Chris had a good couple of days together

Well I didn't make it easy to find since I didn't have a link in my signature until now! And it's still not quite right lol, but at least it's there and works :thumbsup2

:welcome: I'm glad you found me! Yes DH is a district manager for Starbucks. I just gave him your message and he laughed, and said many people come in for the holiday flavors after they've "left" and are heartbroken lol! People love their coffee!
I can understand your family wanting to come to NYC for the holidays. My sister moved to Ga. and much prefers coming up here (even though we're north of the city and therefore not quite cityish). I have no desire to go down there for a holiday, especially a holiday that is supposed to be cold and snowy! I hope you get down for the holidays at some point, WDW is really beautiful to see and they have lots of specialty food items all around for the holidays, too :goodvibes I'll bet the parks' Starbucks have the gingerbread latte!

Um, you probably missed it because I totally blanked on how to link reports in my signature, so I only linked it yesterday and as you can see, I kind of didn't even do it correctly since the "update" part is in there, too  But I'm glad you found me!
I'm hoping to try the Wave breakfast on our next trip, I've heard so many good things about it. Capt. Grille was very low key although it was kind of busy, and I'm sure most of the year it's not that busy.
No matter how many things there are on a breakfast buffet I want to try, I cannot NOT get Mickey waffles :mickeyjum

YES on the frittata's and bread pudding :thumbsup2 Those 2 items have been consistently good on every breakfast buffet we've done there. Don't disappoint me in this department, Disney!
Oh boy, the slushy is definitely worth it. The pina colada one looks good also and I may have to try that one next time I'm there and it's warm. But pina colada anything with no alcohol seems.......wrong :rotfl2:
Chris and I did enjoy our time together and I do hope in the future we get to do it again :goodvibes

I love a good breakfast and buffets are super good because I like lots of choices and I'm a grazer...little bit of this, little bit of that! Not necessarily the most financially smart choice for me, but that's a worry for another day...lol.

Will have to keep it in mind for next next trip. My goodness, do I need to stop reading this report? By the time your finished I'll have all my next next trip meals planned! Ha!

A little surprised at the lack of YC decorations. I'd probably gave been frustrated if I stayed there.

Oh and OT, I'm sure you saw the info in the MK Welcome Show. Ugh. Now I may be mad at my dad forever! So sad I never saw it. Though I'm not totally against the new way.
